I just think Lindgren-Trouba and DeAngelo-Fox are more balanced pairings that play better to everyone's strengths. You can deploy them however you want, one doesn't have to be the "top" pair or whatever.

It will change at the season progresses anyway, but that's just how I see it now.

I think you summed it up well. I'd also rather see ADA-Fox since Fox is our best all-around defenseman and if ADA does have lapses defensively Fox can cover it up but I think in the end, as long as the 4 guys we have in the top 4 now are in the top 4, it doesn't make much difference who's with who.

Seeing if DeAngelo works on the left as his primary position is an extremely important experiment for the long-term makeup of the defense.

As well as seeing what Trouba could do with a partner like that.

I also think Lindgren is the top candidate to take that position.
That said.. It's not going to matter much if the FWDs don't handle their assignments..

Also, Laf is starting camp on the "3rd" line.

This doesn't mean he finishes there.

It's the right move and sets the right tone. He's third LW on the depth chart. Putting him on the off wing in the top 6 ahead of Buch and KK before he's played a single NHL game doesn't make sense and would ruffle anyone's feathers. DQ is not going to anoint him automatically. It also takes the pressure off Laf. He's not needing to come in and be The Franchise right away.

I’m thrilled at this move by Quinn. As someone said this could be a huge move long term.

I know DeAngelo can comfortably play the left side. It’s can he hold up defensively against top lines

I think he can. I much rather give top mins to our top 4 Dmen.

I also like the idea of Miller and Smith as a pair.

Of course Johnson is going to line up with smith tomorrow but we will see how this develops

Richest team in the league, still streams at 420p resolution. Last year's quality was so bad, you could barely make out the players numbers. Having said that, I would gladly inject it directly into my veins.

New Years is a big holiday in Russia. There’s pretty much a country-wide break from then until the Orthodox Christmas. Panarin is just saying (why still feeling he affects of celebration) that it was good that he finally didn’t have to play or fly, etc

Someone that is classified as a top pair defenseman (Trouba), shouldn't be needing his partner to cover for him. Trouba should be the one that is covering for DeAngelo to work his magic offensively.

It doesn't work that way in your own end, he can't cover both sides of the dzone.

Why will he get eaten alive? He hasn't gotten eaten alive against top competition the past 2 years playing mostly with Staal.

That's not really what it means to cover for him though..I don't expect him to play both sides of the dzone, but i do expect him not to not make mistakes/risks that lead to DeAngelo having to go out of position to cover for him or defend 2 on 1s..

The one thing ill say is that Trouba should adjust and play whatever way the Rangers want him to. He got his money and security, he has nothing to "play" for except the team. If that means he pinches less and falls back a little to compensate for Deangelo being on the offense then he should have no problem with that.

Once its in our zone Deangelo is on his own on his side of the ice, Trouba can't help him there, thats the issue. I always find it funny when people say pair this guy with the offensive guy to compensate for his lack of defense but it only helps from blue line to blue line. If this pairing is gonna work, Deagelo has to be better defensively and not roam around so much in his own end. The only thing Trouba can do is make sure we don't give up breakaways when Deangelo is on the ice. It would make more sense to put the responsibility on the center to help Deangelo, not Trouba.

In Deangelo's defense, Staal was notorious for pinching and causing odd man rushes that he couldn't handle, if Trouba can be better in that area, great.

TDA at LD really makes no sense to me, I hope I am wrong!

Everything becomes harder for him and we can’t utilize his strengths, from my POV it’s very odd that they are trying it. But I could be wrong, not claiming to know everything, JMO.
