If Gourde is fit (that's a big if) he's the guy you go after for 3C, I think Pageau would be better but I doubt Lou is going to sell

Gourde isn't big but he's gritty and he's been on long playoff runs and he's a natural center, he's also a 2-way all situations player to

What was he in Seattle, 3rd./4th. line center?

Looks like Wright has moved into the 3rd. line center spot now?

Gourde was taking about 10 face-offs per game, which is where Wright is now.

So Gourde would be 3rd. line center in Toronto? He's depth at this stage of his career.

Holy poop, Gourde has a $5mm Cap Hit? Obviously, he isn't worth anything at that Cap Hit, so obviously, with so little money left to pay, 50% retention goes without saying.

Dewar and Hirvonen for Gourde? Seattle gets a player they can keep for next year, for a 2 month rental and retention.

I'm pretty sure he was playing further up the lineup in Seattle, he's a 3C on a good team but Seattle isn't good

He's a 3C, a solid all situations 3C but I wouldn't expect anything more than that

I'm pretty sure Seattle would eat 50% of his money to sweeten the pot

That's probably a bit low imo
I'd try this years 2nd or 3rd + Hirvonen/Neimela + Dewar (contract dump) and see if they bite

That fills a hole and isn't particularly costly

I wonder if we can swindle a team into overvaluing Grebenkin. He's a good prospect, but also generated a lot of media attention during his stint with the Leafs. We know GMs pay attention to that sort of thing (see: our 4th liners/7th D perpetually being picked off waivers).

He could be a piece we use instead of dealing the 1st or alternatively combining him with Danford and the 1st starts to look a bit like the Jake Muzzin package (Grundstrom, Durzi, 1st).

Lebrun saying Gourde could be a target if they miss out on Brayden Schenn and Scott Laughton...can I just say I am luke warm at best on all of these options?

Not impressed with Tree here, older guys with not much tread left on the tire or a small rental centre that's been injured a bunch this year.
Laughton is only 30. Brayden even though older, he’s still productive and his contract is beautiful since the cap is going to skyrocket soon.

Schenn is big swing- a lot of risk, but a lot of reward

  • Moving forward under the rising cap, that hit is pretty much par for what he brings as physical 2 two way 2C. People forget what contracts look like in a rising cap environment.
  • That trade value is only slightly high for what a rental of his level goes for at the deadline

If he stays at his current level, that trade is a huge win getting us exactly what we need for the rest of the Matthews contract window. But- he'll play the rest of the season at 34, 35, and 36. It's far from a guarantee that he stays at this level.

It's bold, but not unreasonably stupid. If he only had 1 year left it's a slamdunk. The second extra year could go either way, but the 3rd year is definitely a drag.

I'd like if he came with Sundqvist 50% retained. Those two both won with Berube, and would go a long way to changing the complexion of the bottom 6, and since they have term- help us over the hump in the "playoff" mentality/culture.

Schenn is a #2C while Laughton is a #3C but he'll come much cheaper. I'd go cheap. I'm not as bullish on either Schenn as many others are.

I wonder why we're hearing nothing about Provorov. Is he staying with the Jackets? That's a guy I'd be interested in, especially with Tanev down. Very reasonable cap hit for what he brings (4.75). Not an RHD but, I think he's played RHD before, if I'm not mistaken. He's a rental, so I don't think the price will be as extreme as some of what we're hearing for other D's and C's.

Why would the BJ's want to move him? It would be huge for that organization to make the playoffs, can't see them doing anything to go against that.

Schenn Bros
Schenn Bros
Schenn Bros

all day long...

My Dude,

It's starting to look like Schenn Bros...

It sounds marketable. MLSE loves that so it will probably happen. Will it work? No not really, special teams suck and depth is only just now performing. Being tender carried for the most part.

I wouldn't move him either. I just heard Provorov was on the market for most of the year. It's most likely they keep him as an "own rental" at this point.

We don't have the biscuits for Byfield. IMO Buffalo has a plethora of young talent to work into a trade - Cozens being the most obvious piece, but then they have Power, Byram, Samuelsson, Quinn, Krebs, Peterka... its embarassing how loaded they are with young talent.

I don't think anyone expected them to be in a playoff spot this late into the season.

I’d consider 1st and Danford with retention. Would pass on the other two.
I'd be fine trading both Danford + 1st round pick for someone with 3-4 years left on their deal, doesn't have to be B.Schenn.

Those two assests are problem the ones with the "lowest value" in the top tier list.
