Considering our assets Bjugstad is the guy, Evans & Gourde are the fall back options. Nelson would be my #1, but we simply don't have the assets to acquire him. ROR and Kadri, no shot either of those happen for a variety of reasons.

Kadri didn’t work as a #3C before and in skeptical because he’s the same as Tavares but signs for much longer at a non bargain cap hit

He would be 2C as soon as next year and this year he wouldn't be a typical 3C. He likely gets Nylander as his winger. Even if they re-sign JT, Kadri would likely be the 2C next year.

Personally I think it would be a great move and not just because of nostalgia. More talent, more grit, and more cup experience.

Kadri is the same age as Tavares … signed for 4 more years at $7 mill AAV

For all the talk about Tavares’ decline and becoming nothing more than a #4C, isn’t Kadri susceptible to the same decline?

He only has 5 goals and 10 points this season

Tavares is having a great year this year so, for me, his "decline" doesn't really play a part. But the Leafs may let him walk depending on the contract ask.

I think Kadri will age well. I think he's a bit faster than JT which is why I would peg him as the 2C next year.

Either way the team could do alot worse than JT and Kadri as their 2/3 C's for the next 2-3 years. Matthews, Marner, Nylander are still young enough along with the youth coming up.

With all of these injuries leading to auditions (Minten, Grebenkin, Steeves) and signings (Nylander, and not waiver exempt) we may finally have a roster crunch once we get guys back healthy. We may be in a position to move two for one in a deal or two.

Robertson and Kampf (+???) for Granlund with some retention.

Holmberg for Acciari?

Knies Matthews Domi
Paccioretty Tavares Marner
A. Nylander Granlund W. Nylander
Lorentz Acciari McMann
Dewar
Reaves (waived)
Jarnkrok (LTIR)
Steeves, Minten, Grebenkin (Marlies)

That's a contending forward group, no?

He did absolutely nothing for the team and then said some crappy things after he left. No thanks.

No interest in that dick.
He has negative things to say about the team so he can kick rocks
Why do so many think he trashed the city?
He said the attention wasn't for him, he just wanted less spotlight to raise his family lol

It's not some personal attack

I'd be a bit nervous about that but excited at the same time. Certainly it would accelerate things even more than the D contracts already have, so perhaps in line with the strategy in play.

Granlund would makes some sense. San Jose has no retention slots, so we'd need to find another team to do that. With the season he's having, might be hard to do without a 1st and by dumping them Kampf. Robertson's value isn't great right now.

I like Acciari a lot on a "buy low". Doesn't produce much for his cap but adds a big time physical and defensive element. Problem becomes having 2 defensive centers/players that don't produce a lot taking up a lot of space assuming Kampf stays through the season, which I think he will.

...Inevitable Kadri Rumours incoming...!!

Would need 50% retention on that, and maybe even a 2nd team in too - so what does such a deal even look like..?

But - would his return really throw us into serious contender status..?? Would love to see it.

Knies - Matty - Marner
Patches - JT - Nylander
McMann - Kadri - Domi
Lorry - Minty/Holms - Greb/Dewr

Honestly I'd love Kadri, but I just don't see how it makes sense with that contract. The dude has 3.5 years left at 7M and is 34 years old. Would cost a massive premium to get Calgary to retain a meaningful amount for 3.5 years, and then you still run the risk of bringing in a 34 year old with 3.5 years left on his contract (and paying a premium for doing so).

Id be looking more at Brock Nelson, Gourde, Giroux (if Ottawa falls out), Granlund, etc.

Agreed on both. The "+?" in my framework would not be a 1st for Granlund. He make some sense if we get him early, but he is not great defensively and is getting his points with 21 minutes a night he won't get here. He could form a strong third scoring line with Willy though. I had forgotten they had no retention slots. I would add Niemela to the deal, not sure that moves SJ. I am not sure how much I want to give up for $2M in retention for 60 games.

Acciari only works as a Kampf replacement. Agreed we can't have both.

Just a reminder that Kadri had 29 goals
and 79 points last year.

Having Kadri in the playoffs would be a dream come true. This man loves the team and will sacrifice everything for us to win. He is exactly the guy we will need for the long playoff battles. Best 2/3 option for me AINEC. If they can do it, I’m all for it.

Would be a big time Reaves upgrade as well.
Yeah. We can fill that from within I would think. I don't mean the "enforcer" role, I mean the 7 to 9 minutes of ice time.

This one is easy to to me. Waive Reaves, if we lose him, we lose him. If we don't, we get the roster spot and most of the cap space. He doesn't have to play for the Marlies and will probably still dress him from time to time but his roster spot is better shared across Dewar, Steeves, Minten, and Grebenkin.
