Rodrigues would be a good add
Sign Rodrigues, Trade Kerfoot

Bunting Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Engvall Jarnkrok Rodrigues
Kampf-NAK

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Giordano Liljegren
Sandin

Roll 11/7 with Simmonds as the extra. Don't feel comfortable with the prospect of Jordie Benn being the 7th D

Florida surprised me last year as I had them battling for the 3rd/4th in the Atlantic Div. I didn't really trust them then and not really now either. Expect them to take a few steps back, but they are set up better down the road after this trade. IMO .. They likely be battling for the WC spot as they reset.

However the Florida Panthers did break NHL’s record for goals scored during salary cap era with 340 Goals for. That’s an average of 4.15 goals per game :eek2:, making them the first NHL team to average north of four goals a game since the 1995-96 Pittsburgh Penguins did it with Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr.

Our Leafs with Auston popping 60 himself finished 2nd in GF with 315 and with Mitch and WIlly having career goal scoring years also. So Florida had a +25 GF more advantage than the next best team and room to drop. Tkachuk scored 42 and a better goal scorer Huberdeau 30.

For me I watching closely when our Leafs contracts of our core 4 end in 2-3 years and then how their new cap hits position them in the Atlantic.

I was pretty bullish on Florida last year based on the way they played Tampa in 2020-21 playoffs, which is a logic that many Leafs fans can identify with. They were in their face and full throttle. This upcoming year I’m writing them off because I see a massive talent drain and terrible playoffs and their roster moves feel like a Vegas style churn. They’re moving faster than they can understand what made them successful and they’ll make mistakes. Or have already.

PLD is going to be pretty hated in Winnipeg this year, should be fun to watch.

And if they don't move Scheif or Wheeler, or anyone from their core .. that could be a power keg.

The Jets only notable move is signing Rittich ... they've done nothing up front or on defense.

PLD is just going to be a universally hated player when all is said and done. He’s all of Lindros’ trade postures without the track record and I bet if he lands in Montreal he’ll alienate himself completely in 2.5 years. Just a high maintenance situation.

Thoughts on sandin at 3 yrs 4.8 million (1.6 per)
If he would take that it would already be done.

He's looking at a similar bridge to Liljegren but there are rumours out there that he wants $2M AAV on a two year deal. we need to hold firm on that.

Personally I think he's the right candidate.

Any other notable caphit on the team is a more crucial and harder to replace piece.

And of course he has an empty caphit where his salary is actually only league minimum, which should make him more attractive.
Like I said wait, watch and see.

What's Alex Galchenyuk up to this fall? Up and down player and highly controversial due to his high profile OT error but he seems like the kind of minimum wage reclamation we could use for $750,000.

If there is a chance guys like Rodrigues or even Stastny are available for under $2M I wouldn't both with a player like Galch. If they are going to impede their young guys it should be for someone who could move the needle at least a smidge. How many Maltans do they need? Move Kerf and do the final tweaks.

Here's an interesting proposal, with Chicago looking to shed salary, how about,

To Toronto-
Patrick Kane 50% retained
Connor Murphy

To Chicago-
William Nylander
Alex Kerfoot
Rasmus Sandin

Now I understand Kane is a UFA after this upcoming season, but I wouldn't be surprised if his next contract will end up being less then what Willy will be commanding in 2 seasons. Murphy becomes your partner for Rielly.

Rodrigues would likely play C over Jarnkrok, who is better off as a winger.

Rodgrigues is also better as a winger than a C. As is most everyone.

I don't understand people saying trade Kerfoot to make room for Sandin.

Where does Sandin fit in this defence?

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljergren
Giordano-Holl

More than likely Holl is moved and Sandin signs a one year prove it deal.

Holl needs to go. He is atrocious. If he’s still here come opening night I’ll be sick.

Some say that uh Boston is real close to signing kadri, but I don't believe it. I do believe Lou has already signed him and they are just trying to clear the space in the end and then made it official  Kadri will be a Lou for life again. They'll get the best hunter there is what' I think sire.

I hate this.

Nylander has a good cap hit for 2 years.
Kane(@50%) has a good cap hit for 1 year.
Good contracts that last as long as possible are VERY important to this team with our top-heavy salary cap structure.

Any Nylander trade needs to be for a top 6 forward or a top 4 D with a really good cap hit on a contract that is AT LEAST 2 years long.

The fact that we can't trade Tavares and have no interest in trading Matthews or Rielly means Marner, Nylander, Muzzin are looked at a lot to move salary. We need to keep the bargain contracts like Nylander though if we stay in "win now" mode.

I was on the trade Muzzin bus but now Im not so sure. The options for forwrards have dwindled and I am really high on Knies and Bunting. I think Knies Bunting will be our top 6 LWers next season so I dont feel as much of a need to swing for a big top 6 forward. Thats the only way you move Muzz, to clear space for a top 6 forward around 5 mil.

Im thinking we might just move Holl and play Sandin or Gio on the right. Either that or Kerfoot, but I highly doubt you can pencil in Engvall or Robertson as a top 6 LW with JT and WIlly.

The thing is you can always make a deadline deal for a top 6 forward. I dont want us to lose another first though. Im thinking our best trade chip is Sandin or Niemela.
