Where are the insiders at? Doesn't Johnston and Friedman do rounds on podcasts and drop rumors?

Are they all on vacation?

Someone mentioned putting Engvall on the second line and creating a scoring 3rd line, which I liked a lot. I had a hard time seeing how Robertson fit in the lineup otherwise.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Engvall-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Kerfoot-Jarnkrok
x-Kampf-NAK

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljegren
Sandin-Gio

I just don’t think someone who hasn’t had to perform in this market should speak about the difficulty playing here. Toronto definitely seems to be hard on some players but it also plays favourites, and from what I can tell Campbell was treated very well.
Have you played here for the Leafs?

Not picking on you in particular. Not that it's the same as having played here, but I think just about everyone who lives here, follows the Leafs, or even hockey in general, knows that this is a tough market. 14,872 posters a day say it right here.

There are certainly lots of examples of players who struggled here but succeeded elsewhere. I don't see anything wrong with his statement.

Just to get some reaction

Calgary - Nylander
Toronto - Toffoli, Dube, Zary

New Jersey - Nylander
Toronto - Mercer, Wood, Tatar

I'd switch Jarnkrok and Nylander.

24/25 is a horrible outlook financially if the cap is at 84.5

For who?

if these guys could actually do this shit with relevant information like using tiers for:

quality of competition
average ice time
and opposition forward tendencies (some lines rush some dump and chase)

stupid thing can't even read some of the f*#&ing names..

Holl has always had very strong TOI and QOC.

Leafs

I posted it earlier with matthews and nylander extensions depending on where you have their figures.. not a lot of money to fill out a roster

With potential internal players raises it looks like less of a competitive team than now

In my opinion

Anything that gets Tavares away from Nylander is fine.
I’d personally put Rodrigues at 2C with Robertson LW and put Engvall/Jarnkrok around Tavares. ERod can do the dirty work for 88/89 while the Tavares line grinds down the opposition.
Splitting Tavares and Nylander was my main point. I like your lines too.

I'd also be willing to try Nylander at 2C. I could also see Engvall - Jarnkrok - Tavares working, with JT taking faceoffs.

one post wasn't enough to tell you how garbage this is for toronto. Two probably isn't enough either. Holy f*** that is garbage.

Real talk, no agenda in mind

This team looks worse than last year no?
Given multiple players received raises and the goalie situation is a wild card I would say yes. However hopefully the growth in the players compensates for that loss and the core put it together in the playoffs.

We have only like $30m committed how can we be in a horrible spot?

Question: can a team retain salary that brings a players cap hit below the league minimum salary ?

For example , a player making $800,000 can a team retain 50% , bringing the cap hit for the new team to $400,000?

To Toronto-
Rasmus Andersson
Andrew Mangiapane
Jakob Pelletier

To Calgary-
William Nylander
Alex Kerfoot
Rasmus Sandin
If Calgary would accept this Dubas would be a fool not to take it. Andersson has 4 years left at good value, Mangiapane’s agent already said he wants to sign long term. There’s a real situation where Mangiapane+Andersson cost the same amount as Nylander in 2 years. Sandin is obviously a loss but arguably at the easiest position to fill. Kerfoot is not a loss at his cap hit. Pelletier is potentially a top 6F with 2 years remaining on his ELC.

Amazing deal for Pittsburgh to bring him back for that little.

Also a solid bet for Anaheim.

Heinen at 1 million is a steal….

He was the last guy on the market who really made sense for the 2LW spot. At this point, I think you go internal for that spot and look at UFA's to fill a bottom 6 spot. Still plenty of options for that, and just like SEA and Donato, that was a team that doesn't have interest in Kerfoot but takes away competition for him (which is good for us).

I think you’d want Mangiapane to play with Nylander, and also that Andersson is close to untouchable.

Kylington or maybe even Weegar though.

Kerfoot, Sandin, 3rd for Mangiapane on a 3x5 bridge, but it’s a lot and I’d rather do the Sandin/Crouse deal on the trade board.

What are Nasty and Klingberg doing holding things up?

Don't they all head up north to cottage country the day after free agent day until the end of August?

Heinen's deal even comes in at 100K less than last season! Not bad at all.

Jesus.. so nothing to add.. no other ideas.. adjustments?

Not interested in anyone from either team..

Having such little money committed is only beneficial if the team has good targets to spend it on. A lot of their expiring pieces are UFA’s and outside of Matthews none of them you probably want to sign for 8 years, and yes that’s means then to be 28 year old Nylander. Liljegren at 25 and Sandin at 24 are exactly the type of players you’d want to give big 8 year deals to with that big money. If the Leafs lose one of Matthews/Nylander they are looking at:

Knies-Matthews (14M?)-Marner
Robertson (3M?)-Tavares-X
Steeves-Holmberg-Jarnkrok
X-Douglas-Anderson

Rielly-X
Sandin (4.5M?)-Liljegren (4.5M?)
Kokkonen-Niemela

X
Woll

I’d like to see one more right handed top 6F in there which could be Nylander. I just don’t see signing him until he’s 36 at 8.5M(?) being smart business.
