Given enough playing time, that Knight contract could work out just fine over the life of the deal. The overall spend on goaltending doesn't appear to be ideal though.

It could very well work out, but that would mean that they have an 8-figure backup, or at least 1A/1B.

And people complain about the contracts here. Yikes, they obviously don't look around the league much.

It always is but GM's always seem to find a way to do it.

They do... but then Florida doesn't have a first round pick until what... 2027 or something. So if it requires that level of incentive to move.. it's not going to be easy, as they just lack the currency. Also, he has a full NMC, which might be hard to get him to waive to go to an Arizona for example. Even then, he'll be 35 next year, with three years left at $5 mil cap hit (50% withheld), and his numbers have been kind of just ok the last few years. A year behind what appears to be a weakened D, aren't likely going to help those numbers.

The saving grace, is that as of July 2nd next year, at 50% withheld, he'll only be owed $9.25 over the final three years.

I'm a little more interested than I thought...

Samsonov put in work with Mitch Korn, Sorokin's guy in the off-season, we could see some pay off there.

Robertson, Steeves and Holmberg are guys I am interested in watching and Knies to join.

Defense is a concern. Muzzin already injured and Liljegren might not get to be more than a 3rd pairing guy after recovering from a hernia surgery. I remember Getzlaf played through once when Anaheim got to the WCF and lost to Chicago, he wasn't the same guy the following season.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Steeves-JT-88
Engvall-Kampf-Jarnkrok
ZAR-Holmberg-NAK
Extra: Kerfoot

Rielly-X
Muzzin-Brodie
Giordano-Liljegren

Sandin a massive question mark and Holl isn't a top 4 D.

If Knies joins, they can liquidate Kerfoot, move Holl etc...ideally grabbing a top 4 RD and maybe adding to top 6 or bolstering bottom 6...

There is just a ton of options.

Who’s your sixth top 6 guy then? And how do we fit it all under the cap? Honest questions.

Agree Holmberg would be an early test. If it doesn’t pan then NAK is back in starting lineup.

Don’t see how we keep Kerfoot in any scenario w Sandin, ZAR signed + extra man or two on roster. Trading Holl basically the only other option but I’d prefer the D depth
Muzzin and Liljegren both could start the year on the shelf . That would provide a bit of temporary breathing room. Kerfoot is who i expect to get that other top 6 spot . Holl could maybe still move but not with Sandin still unsigned and the above injury concerns lingering. I'd like Zar signed but may not happen with all the balls up in the air.

Do we have a link that Dubas offered him Liljegren's contract?

I'd speculate he did, but that isn't fact.

Two weeks before making those comments, Dubas signed Liljegren to a two-year, $2.8 million contract and it's widely believed that Toronto's offer to Sandin was identical.

I think it’s speculated but not confirmed, confirmed.

$15 million between he and a Bobrovsky. Loves it!

Even if they find a way to move on from Bob, it's still going to be $10.5 mil min. $4.5 for Spencer, $5 mil for Bob... because they are going to have to retain 50% for sure, and $1 mil for a backup.... it's ugly.

I think it caps out their potential to do damage for the life of the Bobrovsk contract. Oh well.

Johnny on the shelf too so I take it back lmao

Teams start to run out of those sweetheart deals. Barkov, MacKinnon, Bergeron, Marchand, Point etc. all getting paid properly or are aging.

I think Zito demonstrated really fast rebuild and it will be interesting to see how they manage their cap without futures and all that cap allocated to goalies. They also have Yandle buyout, even after this year and only Hornqvist coming off the cap in near future.

Maybe Sandin should read the room and take a single year at a discount in his mind because it looks like there will be important minutes waiting for him once he joins the team with Liljegren out and possibly Muzzin. It's a great opportunity to build up some serious value.

Florida is still gonna be a strong team but also I think could easily become a nightmare with 1-2 injuries.

Great forward group, but Matthews-Marner at ~22 is better than Barkov-Tkachuk at 19.5. Their depth shines, but Lundell, Reinhart, Duclair, Luostarinen, Montour and Forsling are gonna eat up at least another 15 in cap on top of what they already make. Lundell under no circumstances gets less than 6 and Reinhart will be a UFA and knows some GM will offer him 8.5.

The aforementioned 14.5 in goalies isn’t a problem if it’s for 1-2 years, but it’s four and they’ll need to throw a solid asset and retention to shake Bobrovsky. This wouldn’t be a problem except they shot their wad early throwing out picks. Two seconds and two thirds in the next three years, and this year they first picked 93rd.

Players come from everywhere but do they have any top line or top pair guys coming up? I think their prospect group is at about the same level of the Leafs, so okay but not great.

They’ll still be very good, mostly because the division is so top heavy, but things can go wrong.

Yeah, but then you do it again next year when Bunting needs his money? This season if Sandin gets injured or doesn’t play well and he’s worth a lot less, if he plays great and earns it then you have to choose and I’m keeping Bunting.

I think he’d have been traded by now if he only wanted to one year.

Does it really shine, tho?

Their bottom 6:

Hornqvist
Balcers
White
Cousins
Luostarinen
Lomberg

The only guy there that's had a 30pt+ season is Hornqvist and he's 36.
