His shot is a good fit for our PP too, he's not trying to score top shelf with it but just getting a heavy shot at the pads to give Matthews and Tavares rebounds to pounce on. We need prime Franson's shooting mechanics on the back end, not Subban playing hero with a 5-minute long wind up aimed at a corner everytime.
Franson’s shot with this PP would be lethal.

With all the Sandin Lundqvist talk on here some folks must be pretty surprised with that trade. Personally don't know much about Lundqvist so have just been consuming the info.

Wasn't Dallas more in need of a lefty?

Does sandin's value really go up with this? .. sandin has had much more time in the nhl and his warts are clearly documented while whether its true or not doesnt have a stable place in the 6

Lundqvist had his cup of coffee, but skill and skating and right handed and hidden a bit down on the farm..

Is this a team paying for the shiny potential and does sandin still have that shine?

The waiver wire

The Leafs have 14 forwards, six defencemen and two goalies on the roster and are $1,493,116 over the $82.5-million salary cap, according to capfriendly.com.
That’s without Sandin, and there are no players on injured reserve. By the time the regular season opens Oct. 12 in Montreal, they will probably have to shed two roster players — maybe three, depending on whether they re-sign Sandin and for how much. Barring a trade or injury, the way to do that is via waivers. Simmonds ($900,000) and one of Clifford (two years at $762,500 per), Anderson ($750,000) or Gaudette ($750,000) would add up. Last season, they lost Adam Brooks (twice), Michael Amadio, Ryan Dzingel and Harri Säteri on waivers.

Lundqvist has the same warts of Sandin. He may be a better skater but defensively he's much worse. He also hasn't been amazing in the AHL where Sandin was a great defenceman there.
The trade value certainly increased for Sandin but my prioroty is to still sign Sandin.

If Dallas was the most interested party in a Sandin/Lundqvist type player and are now off the market that may actually reduce Sandins value in a near term trade.

It seems they were pretty interested.

I don't think the Leafs are interested in picks anyways. If they move Sandin, it will be for another young NHLer.

Could be, but we are talking trade value for Sandin on the market. We may not get an equivalent of what Rangers got if Dallas was the main taker for Sandins services, whether it's picks or players.

Might have missed the boat should we need to move him. Maybe not. But not sure this sets a precedent in the near term.

If the play from the Sandin camp is to force a trade so he gets a secure roster spot it would be unfortunate if Dallas was the most interested party.

If sandin gets moved i dont think we get equal or greater asset value than what lundqvist got

Edit - meaning draft pick .. i could see him bringing back a different young player that could do well

Considering it is very possible that Harley just lost his spot by bringing in Lundkvist, I don't think they were looking for LD. Takes them out of the Holl market though.

They fell in love with a younger RD with prestige as an offensive defenseman and are betting that he does significantly better than he did in New York.

I still think we do some gymnastics for Chychrun

Rielly - Chychrun
Muzzin - Brodie
Giordano - Liljgren

Now, finding the right package to entice them...and become cap compliant is another story.
