I tried suggesting this yesterday and got jumped on. I'm pretty sure that the Rangers don't want Sandin nor do they have the space to pay him anything over league minimum. He may be obtainable for a draft pick.

The attractiveness of Lundqvist is that he's on an ELC for 2 more seasons. He may need some more seasoning.

Well then the Rangers and Leafs are on the same page, because they sure as hell are not going to want to trade Sandin for Lundkvist. If they do, Dubas just made the worst trade of his tenure.

I guess we are planning on sitting our core roster most of the preseason, because we should be able to make our mandatory vet presence, otherwise, pretty easily

A risk imo

Just look how sloppy the NFL opener was for most teams

I guess if you have 82 games it doesn't matter as much however

1st round pick.

Not from a bottom feeder.

He was a fulltime NHL defender until his injury.

Then we need to decide if we're going to pay him

We can't have it both ways. We can't decide he's our 7th D and basically decide he's worth around league min then turn around and ask a premium for him.

We need to figure out what we want to do with both him and Robertson

If Sandin won't sign a reasonable contract due to playing opportunity you have to trade him. He's worth more than a 2nd. round pick.

Robertson, is waivers exempt, if he doesn't blow you away at camp he goes back down to the minors. That's an easy one. He's only 21, hardly old by prospects standards, and still will be one of the younger Marlies.

If Sandin's position is he needs to get paid more than a specific teammate and needs to be given playing opportunities as opposed to blowing the doors off the competition and proving himself, I'm already giving the kid a bit of the horse eye. Heaven knows what he'll be asking for upon completing a 30 point season one day if all goes well.

I would not trust a fair evaluation by Keefe.

They aren't going to sit Giordano, Muzzin or Rielly even if Sandin had the best camp out of all of them.

I wish they’d either put gio with rielly or on his off wing with sandin preferably the first option and leave the Kids on the third pair

I wonder if you could ever manage to get Seth Jones at 25-50% retained on his Blackhawks extension? That would be a unique add on D if there ever was one.

Nils Ludkvist demanding trade. How much would we have to add onto Sandin to get it done? Sandin's a good player but Lundkvist's handedness in addition to his skills make him a better fit imo.
Why would we need to add on to Sandin when he is currently the much better player? Sandin has no option but to re-sign unless he wants to make much less money in Sweden and do this song and dance again next year.

They can both spend the 2022-23 season in Sweden and be in the exact same spot September 2023. Enjoy.

Jones would be one of the better acquisitions in the league but thats 20-40M of retention over eight years. Is such a thing possible?

remember though that Jones was supposed to be that kind of big addition that made a bad but not awful team better and maybe into bubble status, but instead they got significantly worse.

Because Seth Jones is a terrible driver of play and poor defensively. He's practically Ristolainen but good offensively.

Jones is a really controversial player but I wouldn't blame him for Chicago's accelerated rebuild falling flat. I wouldn't be caught dead paying him $9.5 million a season either but if you got significant retention on him over the contract that could be like our reverse Phil Kessel...

RHD, big body, such an efficient skater and minute muncher. Has never played on a team as good as Toronto. Plug him into eat up minutes, while subtracting a Muzzin from the LHD side of the equation and that could give us a better balanced Top 4.

Not in the realm of realistic in all likelihood but one of those pre camp thoughts.

He's been getting shelled 5 on 5 for the last 2 seasons and was a very negative xGf% player for the Jackets in 2019-2020. He's fine if he's your #4 but I would never, ever want him on a top pairing.

Thing is a player like Jones would never be available if he wasn't coming off a rough patch on bad teams, but would be interested to see if Chicago just lives with him or if they'll be a motivated seller. If you're paying less than Rielly, I could be interested.

He was pretty good defensively in the Tampa upset, the Toronto upset and generally before he got to Chicago.
Werenski carries that defense in Columbus. He missed 8 minutes in the series against Toronto and we pummeled them in those minutes. Jones was not the difference maker out of those two.
