One of them is coming out of the lineup for Jeannot it looks like.

The price is still bat-shit crazy to me but the philosophical difference between Dubas/Brisebois is crazy to me. Tampa had no need for Jeannot when they had guys like Paul, Maroon, Perry, Hagel and Cirelli anyways. Heck, even Ross Colton plays with an edge.

But they still decided to get him anyway. The culture is vastly different
Yes the culture is different. They are a team that was a step down from the Leafs after unloading a couple of important players last offseason already and not adequately replacing them, and then the Leafs went ahead and added ROR and Acciari for roughly half of what Tampa paid for Jeannot - whose real need (Tampa's) was more depth of NHL calibre D.

That culture is called desperation. And it's only because they have few prospects from their trades for their successful Stanley Cup runs, but now the team is cresting the hill on the way down, the opposite of the Leafs and Bruins.

This was the last gasp kick at the can moment for TB. If it doesn't work, look for a selloff to start happening before the inevitable age decline to try to retool on the fly as they have no draft capital.

It's not really culture if it's fueled by desperation. There is no defense for the price paid outside of desperation. If the Leafs GM pays this, he's rightfully fired.

Id like another bottom 6 forward if possible. If the upgrade on D can't happen, Id rather get another forward. I don't need Dubas tossing a 3rd for Schenn when it won't really do much.

Give me Lafferty and Murphy and I'm thrilled. I'm not sure we've got the assets (at least the ones I'd move), to get this done.

I'd be fine with this. I think I'd prefer McCabe from my viewing experiences but either way, it would bolster the team a lot. Just depends on the price.

In no particular order:

Schenn
Lyubushkin
Tanev
Bogosian
Forbort
Peeke
Fabbro
Murphy
Manson
Soucy
McCabe

Preferably two from this group. One probably wouldn't cut it and they'd stand out like a sore thumb.

Holy ****, did Tampa just lose there minds?

If Jeannot doesn't go on another lengthy shooting bender that trade is going to look ******* terrible

I guess that's what you do when your extremely successful core is starting to get a bit older, no point in dying wondering now just burn the boats and go for it until your forced to rebuild

Betcha there was a bidding war for Jeannot & Leafs were in on it. Tampa is looking right past Leafs at Boston with this trade. Leafs still lacking a couple tougher D & a couple hard banging forwards. Jeannot would have checked a lot of boxes.

What a shit trade by tampa

I would have taken Foote off their hands if they were just going to give him away lol
A lot of leafs fans said the same thing when Hagel got traded

Turned out to be the player they thought they are getting

Tampa identifies a player and then goes for it

3 years in a row to Stanly Cups finals

Tannot will be a very good power forward. They lost nobody. They'll sign some free agents in place of those draft picks.

Which may or not pay out

At this point with the prices being what they are.....it's probably time again to take another shot with Bobby McMann - he of his 15 goals in his last 15 AHL games.

Big, strong, fast, decent in the corners and in front of the net.....decently soft hands too. Play him with Acciari, or even ROR. I'd rather see upside than a meh bottom 6 add that doesn't move the needle.....plus Knies too perhaps.

The irony here is that Jeannot likely will end up having more of an impact as a longer term reclamation piece for the Bolts if he finds his shooting touch after he's extended and gets to play alongside more skilled players in the regular season starting next year than he will have as a short term "win now" impact piece on their 4th line during the playoffs

Tanev would be a sneaky good target if Calgary does a tinker. I question his durability though. McCabe would be my next favourite. Murphy is just Holl to me. The rest are just average or garbage or just not available.

I also really like Fabbro but the price will be enormous.

Ekholm would be at the top of my list here, and actually available per rumours.

The Leafs are not at the over the hill desperation stage that Tampa is, so it's not a price worth entertaining, as he doesn't move any needles.

I think we can assume a team who's been to the Cup Finals every year since 2020, winning the Cup twice back to back, knows what they're doing...

What should they have upgraded on in your opinion instead?

He's got talent, give the kid an opportunity and give him somebody to work with
I think we may be surprised at what he's able to do

The Leafs (management) are in full desperation mode to win their first playoff round in 15 years (?), otherwise Dubas (who is without a contract) is going to be looking for a new job.

I think Tampa, and their manager who does have a contract into next year and two Stanley Cup rings on his hand, feels pretty good with how things are going for them, in comparison.

Bro. If any team is in desperation mode are the Leafs. We haven't won a round in 20 years.
We haven't won the cup in 60 years.

It's that type of attitude leafs get away with. And I say that with all do respect. I have a lot of respect of you as a poster

I'm speculating but one of the only top 3-4 d-man that might be had for a bargain is Parayko and that's because of the bad contract. For an asset stripped team like the leafs it might make more sense to take on a good player with a bad contract rather then get a good player on a good contract and be forced to give up Knies and more assets for the other options i.e Ekholm. Also when Parayko regains his form, you could flip him in a couple years for a better return vs 100 % losing assets on Jensen, Ekholm etc. Although this option has a lot of risk, it could pay off in a big way if the Blues consider dealing him.

Though worth noting Hagels impact with the Bolts has been larger starting this season than it was during the playoffs last year. If he helps playing a major part of them getting back to the finals remains to be seen still

Though I don't disagree with the gist of what you're getting at - Bolts are in win now mode and absolutely should be dumping draft capital for pieces that help it.

Yeah I'm going to go with not giving up a crap ton of assets for that guy

I'm amazed at how excited you lot get when the words "physical" and "gritty" get chucked around, he isn't that good

My point was that back to back years they got someone who is under 25. It's not they paid for a rental

A 20 goal scorer who will hit and score. Be a good peice with 5 other similar players
