Even though the TBL just pulled off one of the most lopsided trades in years, it doesn't excuse the fact that now we are going to be playing against Jeannot in the first round. With the add, they are going to make that forecheck a living hell for us.

It's gonna be a tough but exciting series. Got to think we are going to be adding again soon.
Exactly, Tampa overpaid drastically but I don’t think they care that much. They needed to get tougher in the bottom 6 and did

I’m worried about our defense handling their forecheck. We need another defender

We'll have to wait and see what the playoffs bring for sure. I do remember everyone laughing at them over the Hagel deal. And then unfortunately, everyone stopped laughing.

I mean this year Hagel’s been great.. but last year he had 7 points in 22 regular season games and 6 points in 23 playoff games.. so if winning is the name of the game it hasn’t been worth it yet. But he can redeem himself this year.

The price is certifiably insane, but I’m not looking forward to playing him in the playoffs

Jeannot - Paul - Colton versus our third line of Engvall - Kampf - Jarnkrok LMAO

We are about to get bullied in the bottom 6 unless Keefe puts ROR there

It's a miracle Tampa Bay isn't undefeated at this point with how people play up that team. They might be physically stronger or whatever but the Leafs bottom lines are not push overs or even struggle against top teams.

Some fans have PTSD of Paul but they should have PTSD of Matthews and Marner not showing up.

Take a breather, it's gonna be ok.

If I was a fan of any other team, I would've been laughing even harder at this Tampa trade.

But since we're projected to face this team in the 1st rd again....Tampa is gonna be such a hard team to play against.

It definitely didn’t, and it’s great news that this is Tampa’s only move.

The ol’ subtraction by addition
Have you ever considered that his 5.7% shooting% this year is actually much lower and he will regress to a higher shooting %?

He has spent more time in his professional career shooting between 15-20% than his 5.7%.

Here’s the issue with the Hagel comparison.

While the cost was deemed steep, Hagel actually is and was a quality hockey player. Jeannot and Hagel could not be more dissimilar in the value they bring.

The analytics were very very supportive of Hagel as a player.

In this case, Tampa not only overpaid massively, but it’s for player that does not bring positive value.

**unless of course he goes on a heater where he scores at a higher rate than Alex Ovechkin

I can't believed Tampa paid that much for him.

Their forecheck is going to be a lot to handle in that first round, whichever defenceman the leafs get should be good at handling the forecheck.

I've seen guys like Sandin struggle with heavy forecheck, so maybe a good idea to limit his play in that series.

Winning is hard. A Stanley Cup final and then a stellar next season, all at a reasonable cap hit. I'd say it's a good deal. Very good age as well.

Like is that a total finalized deal or,..is Tampa getting another player back that hasn't been revealed yet?

Listen, if you think he’s a 15-20% shooter, when Alex Ovechkin is 12.9% shooter in his career, then that’s cool.

Ugh man Im literally getting PTSD from the Bruins series a couple of years ago when the Bruins bottom 6 was causing severe havoc and having all of our defenders scared shitless coughing the puck up

I can't get over this Meier trade. Even if SJ hits on both big picks they got absurdly bad value. They gave away a top-15 winger for a defenseman that can't skate and went 60+ picks too early, a cap dump, a guy who looks decent as a bottom-6 W, and at best two late 1sts. How in the hell they didn't get one of Mercer, Hughes, Nemec, or especially Holtz should be seen as a huge failure by SJ. They had time to continue pushing for more, and worst case they could have traded him in the offseason for a Fiala type of return.

The thing about that trade. It's not just an overpay. It's a severe overpay by like 3 draft picks. Maybe 4.
Well at least the picks Tampa traded are all 2025 except for one so it won't hurt them right now, but still crazy to give up that many picks for a guy like Jeannot who wasn't even drafted, just a guy the Preds signed for free. I guess they assume they can move some guys and recoup some picks down the road to compensate.

Also so glad that they passed on Liljegren and now the 3 defensemen picked before him are no longer with their original teams with Foote, Brannstrom and Valimaki.

Odd deal but if Tampa think they can sign him cheap longterm... but it really handcuffs them from continously making more deadline trades.

We aren't done yet and it gives Dubas another excuse to trade for more depth. Let's make this first round another blood bath i guess

I guess it's about to be 4. No reason to even watch
No one said that, just said TB has become a tougher team to play against after todays trade

They overpaid on a historical level, but they’ve improved and we’re playing them soon.

Again, however you want to justify it is fine. He’s nothing more than an energy fourth line player. He throws some hits on the forecheck.

He’s in no way a game changer. He’s not even above replacement level and frankly, I don’t even think he’s Tampa’s 12th best forward on the roster

If Dubas beat this offer, and it came out Tampa had offered this, I’m guessing you’d be roasting Dubas over the coals.
If you look at how bad the Bolts 1sts have been since Hedman they may have reason not to worry about their high picks. Better at trading than drafting but this one will be small miracle if it works out.

One heck of a price to pay, that's for sure, and if Dubas paid that, we'd be out to lynch him... and Tampa fans are plenty pissed about it... go ahead, read their board. I get it makes them a very physical team, and a pain to play against... it does, it really does, but I'm not sure it makes them better. Maybe Jeannot becomes who he was last year for the Lightning, who knows.. Tampa is a team that has regressed, particularly defensively. Jeannot certainly doesn't help them defensively. He'll probably play with Paul and Colton, who are at least good defensively, so that will help.

Before any trades, we were better than Tampa this year.

So far, we've traded for RoR and Acciari... we will add Knies... they've traded for Jeannot. We likely trade for one more player, Tampa appears to be done. When everything is said and done, ask yourself, who improved the most?
