Buffalo needs a little more offence and they are already overloaded on defensive defencemen so maybe this makes some sense. Buffalo's GM and owner are known for making a splash.

Winnipeg has depth at center and now defence with our younger players coming into their own.

To Buffalo:
C Wellwood UFA (very good playmaker, good stats last year but needs ice time)
D Byfuglien's 5.2M salary

To Winnipeg:
we'll take a #6/7 Dman in return with some salary
2nd round pick
4th round pick

It'd be interesting if they looked at it as a move for a winger with size and some notion of how to use it (when properly motivated/in shape) for the second line. But that contract? Hmmmm...

With a nickname like "Buff", it would only be fitting if he played for Buffalo.

To be fair, they're third in the Eastern Conference for goals...

Granted, most of them are from Vanek.

Also, I would argue you have it backwards...Buffalo has too many offensive defensemen.

Sabres fan that lives in the Peg and there is no chance the Jets would trade Byfuglien for that. He was amongst the top points leaders last season for all Def and would be the #1 guy on just about any team in the league. Jets need scoring forwards (sound familiar) and wont make the playoffs.

I'd take big Buff in a heart beat. Just be sure to notify the cooking staff first, lest Tyler Ennis get any skinnier and that much easier to knock off the puck

lawl oh god

Winnipeg is an interesting place and each of our better players seems to have it's own cult of fans who want to remove one particular player, whether it be Byfuglien, Kane, Burmistrov, or Enstrom... No clue why these 4 seem to get it but believe me... those 4 aren't "actively being shopped".

Every team will pull the trigger when the right deal comes a long, but this isn't it.
