HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #93: Y'all got any more of those 2nd line centers out there?

Say Bedard notifies Hawks management he won’t re-sign there. What would a trade package look like for him?

I get the attraction for Sid to come but it's never going to happen
Never say never my friend.

Odds are you are right . But I have a hunch and sorry other team were not his childhood teams and would not be teams with such a high profile as the Habs (and not won for ages) .
He already generational , only one place he can add to that legacy , it is montreal .
Again , logic and odds say you are right , I however just feel that he might be energized by that challenge and the team with young talent might be enough to make him go for it
we agree on one thing, but i will add this, some legends would rather go out losing on one team then go and play for another team. I get it's a dream of yours and some others, but we need to understand that fantasy or dreams or wishes, and also come back to reality

History question.

Many people here joke about "Ryder, Halak, and a second".

Would that second have turned into Subban?

It's possible. Halak & Ryder only played 2 years together with Montreal. The 2006-2007 season Halak played 16 games. Subban was drafted 2nd round in 2007.

However, I believe that started the following year. Price graduated to NHL in 2007-2008 & we still had Huet, so Halak only played 6 games. Ryder after getting 30 goals the previous year was slumping hard.

There was no room for Halak and people wanted to get rid of Ryder because of his poor play. The Ryder, Halak & a 2nd was offered so much on the Trade Board it became a meme, but in hindsight It's not a bad deal.

Duchene is the perfect target for us, and apparently it was between us and Nashville last time he signed somewhere. I suspect they hold off on any big trades at the draft this year because they'll want to at least take a swing at him first.

If we can land Duchene without giving away any assets that would be huge. Imagine replacing 26 point Alex Newhook with another PPG potential player. Have to imagine Duchene and Demidov would be sick together. 3 year deal would be ideal. I don't necessarily see the need to trade for a young 2c with Hage coming up in the next 3 years, and the team wants to get back into contender status as soon as next year.
Then keep whatever trade pieces we would have used for a 2c and upgrade the RD situation.

That's my perfect scenario off season.

Dallas won't be able to sign Duchene and Granlund so one of the two would be interesting for the Habs. Bourque (rfa) too if Dallas is unable to sign him.

Maybe it was The Count, as Torts would say.

Not that I disagree with what you are saying, but who are these younger centres that are moving? It's slim pickings and lots of teams looking...
There's a few options out there. Myself I would offer Horvat money to Bennett? No cheaper and only a year younger but don't have to give anything up. Bennett is left shot, 25 goals, a veteran with a ring, drags the team into the fight. There's a lot there. At 8.5m we will not be overbid.

If I couldn't sign Bennett, I would offer sheet Bourque. Dallas needs caproom and prone to the offer sheet. He could be this year's Holloway. Former first round pick just breaking out.

I'd consider offer sheeting Ryan McLeod also. He has size, speed and 50 points playing on much maligned Buffalo team. With Demidov He's 70+ points.

The playmaking Granlund I would look at on short term contract. He's better as a center than playing wing in Dallas. Be a good setup guy for Demidov/Laine.

I would try to talk trade with the Wild about Rossi. I liked him in his draft year. Think there is much more there.

At Hughes TDL presser he said something about trying to form a trade package for a "Special player". I think they're aiming higher than people think.

Who do you think?

My $ would be on Crosby as far as "special player".

Dobson is the only other "potentially" available special player I think we'd target

Crosby's hockey autism + Hutson's hockey autism + Demidov's hockey autism

We could have a very special team next year.

Dach + 1st pick top 10 protected + Farell/Mesar. Calling it. He won't cost much more since he has full control of where he will end up. So MTL don't really have to overpay for him. I really doubt that Pittsburgh waits another 3 draft before tanking.

They made an offer on Rantanen apparently, but he had zero interest and ended up in the one of the few places he would (and did) re-sign eventually.

Let’s you know that they’re big game hunting though.

I still think Bennett is a legitimate shot to sign here. He’s been a Quartexx client for a long time, and that definitely counts for something with Kent. Hughes brings in his guys because they’re his guys. Bennet fits the role perfectly, and he will make a lot of money while being able to play for a team that’s going to be loaded with young talent.

You put Bennett between Demidov and Laine, and you’re looking at the Habs most talented top 6 in a very very long time.

A one two punch of Suzuki and Bennett down the middle? Sign me up!

With both Ottawa and Montreal making the playoffs and numerous other teams being ahead in the race, does Buffalo make another move this offseason? They seem amenable to trading within the division and have a long history of having their traded offensive talents play much better elsewhere.

Just so long as it's not a complete scrub like Benson. Imagine championing him or even pining over not having drafted him. Another soft tiny 'skilled' player that fooled people who don't know much about hockey.

Both 2025 1sts + Dach + Mailloux for Crosby

2026 1st (no conditions) + Hage for Dobson (that hurts but we retain Beck for future C depth)

Resign Dvorak under this scenario for bottom 6 C depth

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Crosby - Demidov
Anderson - Dvorak - Gally
Heinemen - Evans - Newhook
Kapanen/Beck

Guhle - Dobson
Hutson - Reinbacher
Struble - Carrier
Xhekaj

Long term this weakens us a little but becomes a problem for another day. We will need something to replace Crosby in 3-4 years.

Beck is our defacto top centre prospect but hitting 2nd line guy is less likely than Hage.

In the short term, we become instant contenders. It's an all-in scenario.

We all would love Crosby to end his career in Montreal but it's unlikely but he would make such a big impact on our youth but one can dream I guess.

How about John Tavares or Brock Nelson on a 2-year deal till Hage is ready to assume the role?
Pundits are sure Tavares will re-sign with the Leafs and Nelson wants to go back to his natal Minnesota.

Most of the UFAs will be re-signed before July 1st.

If the Leafs underachieve(again) I don't see them wanting Tavares back. He's at the age where he should be looking to be a depth piece, and we are an up-and-coming team and what better place for him than here?

I expect Toronto to clean house if they don't do damage this year. They can't keep walking it back with the same group and the emergence of Knies will make someone expendable on that team and Marner might be the first to walk.
