HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

We have plenty of middling prospects and picks, we need to manage our assets but there no point in trading guys like Savard, Armia and Evan if we aren’t getting interesting returns… The pressure is on those team to load up, our guys are good useful players but if we lose them for nothing it won’t be a setback…
This is the minimum value I think KH should consider, selling high on one is more valuable than selling low on all 4…
Evan for 2nd+3rd
Armia for 2nd
Savard for 2nd
Dvorak is the only guy that I think need to be traded regardless of the return…
Dvorak + 3rd for 2nd

Honestly unless a 1st can be obtained i'd aim for picks in 2026-2027-2028 to give us more assets when we might be willing to buy at the deadline.

They're in tough spot. They still believe that they can make the playoffs. They have 4 four games before the trade deadline and they may possibly win them all (SJ, Buf, Buf, Edm). I don't see any moves being made before March 7th.

They could win all 4 and still be in the same position as they are in now.The problem is they are 5 points behind the last spot and tied with the Flyers.They are 3 points behind the next spot up and they have to pass 5 teams to get to the last wild card.Good luck to them.Too many teams ahead of them

Basically Armia instead of Gallagher/Anderson/Newhook.

This draft is super low on talent outside of the top 7-8ish and if we aren't picking in that range we should be trading multiple picks for a piece we need.

I hate it,but I’m starting to embrace Bennett at 7 millions for seven years… A Young vet LHC with SC pedigree/playoff performer. Will « protect » Demidov on the line. Put grit on every line (can push Slafkovsky to continue his PF trend, easier to bring the heat when you are not alone). Can be put LW if we draft a top 6 C top7. Quartexx client and good words on Centre Bell on 4 nations (for what it’s worth). 7 millions for 40-50 points is expensive but not that much for 0.7/0.8 pt/game

Yeah it does sound crazy to want to send a bunch of garbage and get a franchise’s only two good players.

Demidov and Hutson will need new deals sooner than later. Rantanen is already past his peak, mind you. COL fans were saying how he’s less dynamic than he was two years ago.

I’m all for quickly building the Habs but (even if Rantanen even wants to join) adding veterans to max contracts should be done with great caution. I think the rule of thumb for signing UFAs to max contracts should be that they show no signs of decline right up until their new contract. If there’s any change in their performance I wouldn’t make such a commitment.

I’d prefer to acquire Crosby somehow or even gun for McJesus as a FA (imagine that!).

Crosby only team I see him going to is Colorado. Guessing maybe Middlestad, '26 first and Ritchie?

They might like the 2 Habs 1sts from 2025. Unlike other deals, it'd be higher than 15. They are one team that needs a rebuild and they can't afford to take many years to do it.

Dobson likely being moved but them trading Barzal might be dreamland suggestion.

In the large majority of cases, forwards severely decline in production after the age of 32. I would be very careful of who I give a long term contract to at a high cap hit, that includes many years of them being 33, 34, 35, 36, etc... years old.

Beggars can't be choosers. Until proven otherwise, all we're going to attract as UFAs are players less in demand and that the Habs will overcompensate in years/ term.

Could well be that a Bennett-type is all that will bite. So what does KH do? A free asset is a free asset esp. welcome where a need is filled.

I'd rather Armia as a complementary player, like Heineman and, even, Anderson, than Gallagher, even if Gallagher scored 20 again.

As we've seen for the past seven years, he doesn't do much for us. We've given him every opportunity here, with minimal results. Even as a $2M player, he's a 4th liner that does nothing besides kill penalties. Why not bring somebody else in to do that job and inject some life into the group? Somebody that plays the body, or moves faster than a glacial pace, etc... We've seen this story before and we know he ending. We can finally start to get rid of some dead weight, it's time to move forward not be stuck in neutral. Just my take on it....right or wrong.

I would love to see Barzal anywhere besides the Island....the place where offence goes to die. Maybe it's too late but the guy had so much offensive flair to his game coming into the league, is it really gone from his arsenal now?

Can't believe we are talking re signing players like Armia or Evans at this money. We are talking 4th liners career players cap increasing or not . How about we use that money to overpay for a real need and not of some bozos that can put a stick on the ice during the PK. How about using those future 6m ish+ if we were to extend both to sign a player who's actually good and would help our top 6 or top 4 def?

If our priority is to sign 4liners when you still have Heineman Gallagher Anderson Dach Newhook and Beck in the bottom 6 next year. Why even bother wasting money on those 2.

Barzal would give us exactly what we need though, a high end top 6 center that has the talent to challenge Suzuki for that #1 spot. A line of Demidov/Barzal/Laine could be more dangerous than our current 1st line. If his name is ever made available I'd be offering any center in the organization not named Suzuki and both 1st round picks this year to get him with the Habs.

I would go for Horvat instead of Barzal.

Would cost less and probably more disponible. Bigger, one of the best on the FO, solid two-way and really durable.

A bit overpayed but it's not crazy.

It’s wild that he’s 6’1” and only 27.

It feels like he’s much older and smaller than he actually is. I agree he’d be a fantastic pickup.
