But getting a solid 2c in Stammer to carry the middle 6 for the next 3 years is just smart business. 8.5m wont reflect his points but the leadership is immeasurable, even for Suzuki. TB would never ship Stammer in division.. he's available via NSH, opportunity knocks.

Throw in Dach and Newhook going to NSH and wrap it up.

This is not a good player. $8.5m can be spent on something much better.

They're in tough spot. They still believe that they can make the playoffs. They have 4 four games before the trade deadline and they may possibly win them all (SJ, Buf, Buf, Edm). I don't see any moves being made before March 7th.

I was talking of the entire NHL

I don't really need to be informed on where the Habs stand. Most here don't either. Fans here are generally informed enough to not need it.

Stamkos hasn't been a "solid 2c" in years. Even setting aside his time in Nashville, he was more of a PP winger in Tampa.

It's the right move if they close the gap and leap frog a couple teams but if Rangers Boston Columbus and Ottawa win going into the trade deadline you have to sell. Simply winning the remaining 3 games isn't enough if those teams ahead of them don't lose.

That would mean trading one of Anderson, Gallagher or Heineman. Heineman, you don't trade and the other two, at their Cap hit, you likely can't trade until they become rentals next year and you can eat half of both their salaries.

Might actually trade both Anderson and Gallagher at the next trade deadline. As a rental at 2.75M, ÙAnderson, if healthy, might be in great demand.

Why? He's been with us for 7 years and has done nothing but been a good penalty killer.

Good forechecker, good PK player, puck possession beast, can score the odd goal. Perfect player for the bottom-6 at 2M, actually.

We lived the Armia life for this long and it's brought us nothing, why keep reliving shit that just doesn't work. If we keep doing the same things over and over, we'll never progress and unfortunately, Armia has been part of our issues.

As he should, Habs are not winning the cup nor are they re-signing any of their free agents. All the vets and Dach should be available if he gets what he feels is a good return.

Still only 30 and would be the Habs number 1D and plays the right side. Has Size and still putting up very decent numbers on a really really awful team. Then you can move both Matheson and Savard and call up Engstrom or Trudeau.

I'd rather Armia as a complementary player, like Heineman and, even, Anderson, than Gallagher, even if Gallagher scored 20 again.

The real issue is the continuing lack of skilled players, especially at C for the top-6.

Give me a real 2C without sacrificing core players and next year the team is already scary good, even with Armia, Anderson and Gallagher there, but Gallagher would become a 13th forward, IMO:

I agree Dallas will hard after Jones but if Hiskanen comes back they no longer have the cap space I think you also underestimate where the Canadiens can be even as early as next year. They have the cap space to go after a free agent or two and have some promising impact players.

For argument's sake let's say they get Jones for Anderson Mailloux or Calgary's 1st and Chicago retains 2MIL
Jones at 7.5 is still a good contract.

Next years lineup could look like this:

(Ehlers) Demidov Laine
Heineman Beck Dach
F. Xhejak Kapanen Could keep Armia at 2M per for 3 more years

S. Jones Hutson
Ghule Jakob Chychrun
Xhejak Carrier

This also gives time for Reinbacher to dev properly in Laval after a injury and bring Engstrom in as the 7th

I'd go after Jakob Chychrun 7M, Nikolaj Ehlers 6M

Trade Savard 2nd rounder
Trade Matheson for a 2nd 4.75M
Give away Gallagher for whatever if someone will take him 6.5M or Buy Out
Trade Evans - 2nd rounder
Newhook for 3rd or 4th - 2.9M

That's roughly 14M off the books plus the UFA's gone there's more than enough cap space to make some bold moves.


Anyways this is all fun and games and none of us here know what's going to happen, it's just fun to shoot the shit about it.

Just showing what the team coud look like. Gallagher will finish his contract out as a Hab, pretty sure of it. That should be it for the guy, but maybe he gets a 1-yr contract as a 35-yr-old from the Haves after this contract if he scores 20 again in a bottom-6 role in the meantime?

I'd 100% take Armia back... especially if it was on a 1-2 year deal.

he's 9th in ice time among forwards, boosted mostly by his big contributions on PK (3rd league-wide in PK toi/g on the 6th best PK team in the league...) because he's 11th at ES and PP.

a reliable vet that knows his role, wants to stay with his current usage, and has clearly bought in and helping the team improve in a vital phase of the game is definitely worth bringing back for a team looking to improve on it's performance year over year.

replacing him with a UFA likely won't save much $ on the cap hit and comes with risk of fit/effectiveness in that niche role... young guys like Beck/Kapanen/Demidov/Heineman either aren't a fit to be deployed that way or would likely represent a bit of a performance gap as they get up to speed with the realities of penalty killing against the best players/power play units on the planet

easy re-sign on a 1-2 year deal if he's coming in at 3M$ or less... just wait until July 1st before claiming that's too expensive... a bunch of depth vets are about to get big pay days thanks to the massive cap increase

Why? The priority for next season should 100% be to sign a vet 2nd line center on a 2 years deal to play with Demidov. There's no room for Armi, Davorak i'd even argue Evans. People really need to take a serious look at the lineup before saying SIGN EVERYONE .

We have plenty of middling prospects and picks, we need to manage our assets but there no point in trading guys like Savard, Armia and Evan if we aren’t getting interesting returns… The pressure is on those team to load up, our guys are good useful players but if we lose them for nothing it won’t be a setback…
This is the minimum value I think KH should consider, selling high on one is more valuable than selling low on all 4…
Evan for 2nd+3rd
Armia for 2nd
Savard for 2nd
Dvorak is the only guy that I think need to be traded regardless of the return…
