Last thread is at 3k. Time for a new one.

Trade Deadline is still 4 weeks away, but also only 8 games away as there's a two week shut down for 4 Nations tournament.

Discuss rumours, potential trades, etc here.

use some picks/newhok and get us a 2nd line centre. its time to make 2 full lines of scoring
centre must be a great passer to feed PL

I agree, we need to move on from idea of Kirby as 2C, no signs of that and it has nothing to do with his injury. I like him as a winger and I would keep him.

Wouldn’t be an immediate solution for 2C, but targeting Pittsburgh’s 2025 1st round pick to draft LHC Desnoyers would be a great option moving forward if both teams remain in their current position (7th for PIT and 11th for MTL) and the latter is still available.

Would Habs’ 1st + PIT’s 2nd (39th) be enough for such a swap or would the Penguins require CGY’s 1st (17) instead of their own?

I’d do it with PIT’s pick, not sure if I’d do it with CGY however…

Don’t see why PIT does this. They need quality in their prospect pool that currently his one of the worst in the league.

Add our other 2nd round pick and another mid round pick, they'd probably do it then, they don't have much in their system.

I liked the look of Newhook - Dach - Anderson and that could be a good thrid line. If we acquire a 2c we next yeat we could role

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - 2C - Demidov
Newhook - Dach - Anderson
Heineman - Beck - Gallagher

...Dach is a terrible defensive liability at centre, if we want to be honest...put him on RW with less defensive responsibilities and he looks better...

We could also trade for one. Maybe a team believes in Dach at 2C and is willing to trade an older 2C for him and maybe some futures. This would be a team that is looking to retool/rebuild. I don't think Dach's value is bad right now, and his size will blind many GMs.

An ageing 2C would have great value for us because they can be a 2C while Hage gets ready, and then they drop down to a 3C later on in their career. Kinda like a Monahan. I am honestly tired of relying on drafting. We have enough youngsters.

...Dach + Kapanen/Roy + what for Byfield would be a better idea, imo...if we could even get LA to bite...
 
I'm not sold at all on Dach as a center long term. I do feel he can be a part of our long term plans, but we need to plan on him being a winger.

And with Dvorak leaving this year, I think not only do we need to keep Evans, we need to be on the search for another center this offseason, whether by trade or UFA. I don't think we can wait much longer without addressing that 2C slot. Hage and anyone we draft this year will need time measured in years and there is projection involved.

Suzuki - New Center - Evans - Beck/Kapanen going into next year.

This is just a hunch but i think we are in on Pettersson .I watched a bit of the Canucks game and he doesn't look any better than he did when Miller was there.I think he wants out of there.I think because of his lousy play and the terrible contract he can be had for very little.If he could turn his career around he would be exactly what we need.Of course it could turn out to be a disaster also.
