Yet, he is better than all three of them, that is the current state of the pathetic habs.

No, he's not.

We had him. We used him. He proved without a doubt he was not better than them.

Pining for Kovacevic is just one of the most pathetic thing this board has ever done. It smells horribly of needing to complain about every marginal thing.

Kovacevic and Harris for that matter, both had to be moved........and they were both decent, and what I miss about Kovacevic was he would step in and help defend a team mate.............that said, we were a bottom feeder with him on our squad so let's not give him too much credit, we have a young inexperienced D squad with or without him, and we far from world beaters with him in the lineup.

Jordan Harris is a #7 playing 12 minutes of ice time in average per game. I think your definition of decent didn't stick for him. It isn't quite comparable with Kovacevic who's playing solid top 4 minutes in New Jersey.

Does it erase that he was good here? Sometimes a player can be a good fit somewhere and a bad fit elsewhere (see Edmundson in CAR).

It is irrelevant what minutes either are playing. Maybe Harris plays top 4 minutes if he was the one with New jersey.

KH needs grit on this team. and ask Slaf how big he is? well then use it
I was 100% certain Hughes knew this and I thought that when HuGo said "This Team Showed us Something" meant he was going to address this.
Particularly when asked what our greatest need was he came back with size.

My bad size has nothing to do with guts.

Pining, haha, definitely not doing that.

And yes, he is better than those three guys.

We should be able to get a 2025 1st but I wouldn't be against a 2026 either, depending on the team owning that pick.
We have too many picks in 2025 imho. I'd try to spread the choices and avoid putting all the eggs in the same basket. Besides, Matheson has 2 years left and is slowing down.

Yeah I would be ok with both. But if we trade him at the deadline and we think we will get the Panthers 1st instead of Calgary’s, I would ask for 2025 1st so we can make a package to still draft in the early 10’s. We would have 2 X late 1st and 2 X early 2nds to make something happen.

With 33 year old, 6 point Fowler getting a 2nd with 38.5% retained, have to think Matheson can get a 1st with 50% retained.

I'd do it. Give the left side to Guhle, Hutson, and Xhekaj, plus Struble. Then in the summer sign a vet RD like Rasmus Anderson (hard to do) or Brandon Montour. In hindsight, would have been nice to have signed Brandon Montour at 7M AAV and traded Matheson this past summer.

That's very unlikely to happen. Keep the strategy to high likelihood of happening. If it feels like a lottery shot, prefer the other angles first.

Anderson is not a free agent this summer, last I checked.

You're right. He was rumored to be on the block at the start of the season. Is it because he wants out of Calgary?

No it's just because he's a good TDL target as a RD, just like Matheson on LD.

Even though, they have 1 year left, their cap hit is low.
Matheson hasn't established himself as a two way force to fit the long term time line here. Anderson, I think, fits any team's timeline, young or contenders, because he's good at both ends of the ice.

They're on different universes right now based on their levels of play. Add to that that Anderson is an RD, a rare commodity, and his value is even higher.

Kova play in NJ is showing he was a better D than Hab fans gave him credit for.

Glad he is doing well, and escaped the shit show in MTL. For sure he would have helped.

MTLs D is a joke. Outside of Guhle and Hutson they have a lot of quantity but the quality isn’t that good.

Barron - junk
Struble - a 5/6/7 at best.
Wifi - a 5/6 at best
Savard - a 5/6
Math - should be used as a 4 but is an #1/2 on this mediocre squad.
Lane - is a 3/4 but is being overused
Guhle - is a 3/4 - might be a 1/2 someday
The only thing that's show his how a good structured team can raise the play of a marginal player. Put him in Mtl right now and he would still be the same player he was when he played with us. If he was a LD, no one would talk about him because he's clearly not better than Matheson,Guhle,Hutson or Xhekaj.

This is it. Not that Kovy is way better, he has one huge advantage and that is smarter coaching. He has one stable D partner, so if they make mistake they can communicate and fix it. We change lines and pairings every 3rd game. Who was he paired with when he played for us? Matheson, Guhle, Struble, Harris, Xhekaj, probably all of them.
Btw, between the lines I just wrote that Keefe is a better coach than MSL and that might scare some Habs fans.
