He's not extremely physical, he won't throw big body checks but he has size and works hard and sometime that matters a lot. And he's also a good skater. I think his loss has been felt in our line-up.

Devils fan here, Kovacevic doesn’t hit, but he’s definitely been playing using his size very effectively, and more importantly he seems to almost always make the right decision. Him and Siegenthaler play very similarly and they are completely annihilating the opposition offense this year. I’m not a big stats person but they have the best defensive score of any pairings in the league.
Now, from our point of view, we always thought you got rid of him because you had a logjam at his position, not because your team was particularly unhappy with him.

And that's correct.. he was a serviceable dude in a 6/7 role but we didn't have space for him anymore.

Yes, we wanted to make room on the right side for Barron (not waiver exempt anymore), Mailloux, and Reinbacher. Well, it turns out that Barron has still not made any progress, Mailloux is still not ready, and Reinbacher is injured but probably wasn't ready regardless.

Kovacevic isn’t a #6 or 7 on neither New Jersey or Montreal.
Let’s just stop with the lies.
It was an absolute mistake to trade him, as he was Savard replacement, but like with Bergevin people will defend most decisions made by this new regime.
This should have been the defense this year, but we got to be “ in da mix” so let’s play Matheson 24+ minutes a game instead of figuring out what your young D can do.

He never stood out in any way for the team. Granted the Devils have a far better defence than the Habs. Maybe the move was to put him with Guhle, who is a Siegenthaler-type. But the team was also in no position to have a defensive pairing and play matchups, we don’t have the same quality all over the lineup.

It’s a good thing if a dmen doesn’t stood out and if you did pay attention to his play, he was one of our most consistent dmen and a jack-of-all-trades. 6’5” 200 right handed dmen. We played many games this year with only one RHD which is stupid.
It was a poor decision to trade him.
New Jersey has improved a lot this year and he is part of it.
Wahlstrom is the type of 'reclamation project' I could see us take, even though he's been rushed, he's certainly unimpressive since his starts in the NHL, but I suspect a change of scenery, away from Lamoriello, could benefit him.
If not, well, back on waivers, that's all.

The ultimate irony would be if Montreal did get Kovacevic back, he'd suck when he got here. Not because he's a bad D, but because the Habs are bad at D and the goaltending won't cover up his errors like they will in Jersey.

No thanks, he’s awful and the team is already loaded on the wings. No more reclamation projects, that should be over. Acquire impact players, and wingers are the last thing the team needs
He wouldn’t have made a difference, just like last year.
Good point. Being stuck under Lou in today's game will be tough on some players. Not risky for the habs so why not?

Yes our flaws are deep. But Kova would be better than Barron, he would make us better defensively, he makes us bigger down there and he would not be a reject from the left made it into a right side D by force. That matters. That cost us a goal last night cause Struble was skating like a headless chiken all mixed up cause he was not on his side. Never underestimate what a solid stay at home solid D can do. It's fortifying.

It’s definitely hard to look at our blueline and say there wasn’t enough room for anybody. The only reason there wasn’t enough room was because management did a poor job evaluating what we had and mismanaged who would play where and who had to go. I’ll be honest tho, most of us ended up being wrong on this particular subject as well.
