I'd do Dach for Kakko. Kakko is going to be 24 and he won't get any crazy offers from anyone. We get someone who is used to work and most likely does not expect top line minutes. That's important with Demidov coming up.

Yea, HOW DARE HE not enjoying being spit on by random people on the internet?!

While we're at it, Eklund said that Matheson is a hot commodity and 8!, yes 8! club are interested
Nashville, Islanders, Ottawa, Detroit, LA, Utah, and Seattle and Florida...
Sevaralli posted a list this morning/yesterday of the "top" trade targets (it was posted in this thread). Matheson was #13. It's probably the origin of crap like that.

And Sevaralli's list is probably BS. I mean, Jiricek was supposed to be traded 24 hours ago by now.

No one cares
Do you mean in future seasons or this one?

Having Suzuki and three 4Cs is a big contributor to how poorly this team has performed. A lot of what people have blamed on young defenceman or a “bad” system is a symptom of being extremely weak in the middle of the ice.

Evans isn’t struggling by his own standards but there’s absolutely no way he should be anywhere near the top-6. Dvorak is hardly an NHL player most nights and is on our third line. Dach has been ineffective no matter where he’s played. Condotta isn’t an NHL player. There are maybe five other NHL teams with comparable or worse center lines.

I have more faith in Guhle/Matheson and Savard at RD than whatever we’re trying to pass off as capable centers this season. I’d rather Savard and Hutson on the second pairing than Evans/Dvorak on the second line.

Medium/long term though? Yeah, we need some better options for two-way RD.
I think we should be best friends because we are seeing the same thing. I smiled from ear to ear reading this, it's so obvious but many continue to cite a rookie coach and "green" D group as the reason we struggle so badly.

I believe that a trade needs to be made to make us stronger in the middle and not be talking about Beck and other prospects because as you know, it might take 3-4 years before he or any other prospect can excel at the NHL level.

It seems like kakko's name has perpetually been talked about on the trade block for years.

High picks who didn't live up to their promises with the team that drafted them are always "on the trade block". It make sense for the other GM to kick the tires on them often, since they could get a (former) highly touted prospect for cheap.

That said, I'm not sure how Gorton feel about doubling down on Kakko...

It’s now reported on TSN Kappo Kakko is on the block.

Kakko could be an interesting addition, even if it’s just as a middle-6 player. Plays well defensively from what I’ve heard.

Aw shucks, of course we can be friends! Great minds think alike and all that.

We need two middle-6 centers. Picking up one and waiting for Dach to improve might be a good compromise. If Dach shifts to the wing, then that’s okay too. Not much will change until we see improvement here.

It’s bleak looking at available center options though.

They won't get any of that anywhere. They wouldn't even get Beck or Kapanen. I think a lot of folks are completely overrating Jiricek by a long shot.

It's quite possible Columus is also overrating his value and just got a wake-up call with the offers they received. If they received any.
Pretty sure they did get some offers, but 5-6 isn't enough to drive any momentum up. I still think they sit this one out, and Jiricek will need to play the AHL till next season. His agent should understand that Columbus or another team, it will be the same. He still needs to understand how to play defense in the NHL regardless.

I would give Beck and Kapanen on heartbeat. They are going to be bottom 6 player if they play in the NHL. Jiricek should become at least a top 4 Dman wich is more valuable

Kakko will only be traded when the rangers are certain he will amount to nothing. At that point he will be moved for a bag of pucks and the fans of the receiving team will get drunk on false hope that he still has something in the tank
I would give Newhook for Kakko. Im wondering what Rangers would like..

Most recently he nailed the Laine trade ahead of everyone else

I think he has some connection. Obviously he isn’t tapped into a network or anything but he’s got friends in the Habs org.
Laine trade - oddly specific about Harris. Eklund wouldn’t know who Harris is.

Enough to say hmmm …

Then he followed it up with the injury prognosis when everyone though surgery was coming.

Could know someone in Habs org.
… or player agency.

… or maybe he plays fortnite with Laine.

Should?? Look at Barron, Jiricek could very well follow in his skates. The reports aren't stating at least top 4, they're stating his IQ and play is not NHL caliber and Columbus seems to be throwing the towel. Beck and Kapanen on the other hand have a serious shot at getting a 2nd line C spot somewhere. I would not trade them for another gamble. It's gonna have to be a gamble for another gamble: So Mailloux or Barron, plus pick if necessary, and that's it.

If it's not good enough: Pass.

So if Jiricek can't make it on a bad team, is that a red flag? I mean why the buzz around this kid???
The buzz is just because he was drafted in the top 10, which doesn't matter anymore. As a comparison:

David Jiricek will most likely be waiver eligible in 2026-27 in his D+4. He's in his D+2 and is not ready for the NHL.
Logan Mailloux will most likely be waiver eligible in 2026-27 in his D+5. He's in the exact same spot as Jiricek

Tthe difference? Mailloux is working without an itch in Laval to make it and is not getting shopped.

You know that a 2nd centerline spot, the player need to make around 45-60 pts at minimum and more?

I could see Micheal Hage to become a real 2nd centerman, but Kapanen and Beck. This is a huge ecpectation and at 90% not realistic in my opinion.

There are only 13 RHDs under 24 in the whole NHL plus something like 10 prospects outside league with top4 potential. Rare commodity, his size, pedigree are still attractive even if there are red flags.
