Sam Reinhart is having quite a season and is UfA at the end of the season. Would you give him a $9M 7 year contract (until 35) ? After this year I’m done with the rebuilt and would love to get back in the playoff but we desperately need top 6 talent.

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Newhoook Dach Reinhart
Armia Dvorak Anderson
RHP/Yloven Evans Gallagher

That 3rd and 4th line would be taking up more than 20mil ( > 1/4 of the salary cap). I don't think it makes sense to be a buyer with so much money being spent on those players still

You have Armia and Dvorak’s contract that are done after next year and can be replaced by Roy and Beck at entree level. I sure hope Habs won’t wait for Gallagher and Anderson’s contract before spending on players!?

Habs have $17M to spend next year with Yloven and Xhekaj to sign and then 50M the next year with Ghule and Slaf as key players to sign. We can afford a $9M-$10M 30 goal scorer

Reinhart will not leave a top contending team in a tax free state to pay high taxes on a non contender if he does he will sign with his hometown Canucks.....better chance to get top 6 talent in a trade like for Meier who has been awful this year but is still just 27 and scored 40 last year.

Nevermind +, if David Savard fetches a 1st by itself, you take that and run to the bank.

He's good at his role, but a 1st would be a steal IMO. Depends on Tanev's market.
At some point you have to keep some valuable vet players on that teM. We just lost Monahan. And guys like Gally, Armia, Anderson or Dvorak are not what I call useful vets.

Aaron ward made a good point saying you need good vets that are good role models of how to he pros, not necessarily stars. You need to teach them how to be professionals, not to teach them skills.

Having said that, yeah I want good vet hockey players around them. But if we trade Savard, we should be able to get a good vet replacement in the summer on the ufa market.

Like who ? And the guy is Quebec-born on top of that. On the right side, him and Guhle are the only two sure d-man. Barron is a question mark, and Kovy is a #6-#7 d-man. Savard's contract is still good for another season.

I'm fine with keeping Savard for another year. But if I get offered a 1st this TDL, I take it.

Off the top of my head, I think we'd be ok next year with:

Matheson - Guhle
Struble - Dumba
Xhekaj - Harris/Barron/Kovacevic

Laval (ready for a call up):
Hutson - Reinbacher
Engstrom - Mailloux
Trudeau - Bogdan/AHL Vet

I hope not Dumba. They will have to sign him long term, blocking the way to Mailloux and Reinbacher who should be ready by the start of season 2025-26

Dumba is not good i would sign Kulikov way before him even Desharnais.

Well he signed a one year deal this past offseason. Why would he not do it again?

sure. I just named the first guy that came to mind.

I think we'll try to bring in some vets but not a big free agent this summer

We can get more for Savard next TDL. There's still too much money being spent on junk, we won't be trying to compete next year.
If we are going to retain 50%, why would 1 playoff run with Savard be more valuable than 2? I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes is asking for a 1st in next years draft which is stronger as an asking price since I find it hard to believe a team hasn't offered a 1st for this year's draft.

I get the sneaky suspicion there’s a deal coming for Armia , will undoubtedly need retention

You find it hard to believe that a team hasn't offered a 1st for David Savard a month before the tdl? What

Most likely he doesn't return a 1st at the tdl. I'm expecting a similar package to what we got for Scandella if we trade Savard (a 2nd and 4th).

Monahan was a slam dunk to return a 1st. The circumstances would have to be very good for Savard to return 1st.

But Savard is a lot better than Scandella.

For tax reasons going to be near impossible for Montreal to get Reinhart out of Florida. We would have to offer 2-3 million more to equal his take home pay.

Reinhart is a good player but he's benefited from playing on a good powerplay in Florida and 52% of his goals the last 3 years were on the powerplay. He has also spent a lot of time with Barkov at ES which also inflates his point totals and his shooting % is 28% which is unsustainable.

Similar to Huberdeau, he will get overpaid for his UFA years based on these point totals and I'd rather not be the team that does it.
