#1 OVER ALL PICK LOL
Not necessarily. We have finished outside the top 10 with worse teams. In fact having a bunch of grinder AHL players for life would be terrible. Those guys would give everything to impress and make the most out of their likely only chance to ever make the NHL. The more kids the better if you want to finish bottom 5.

It really is a shame Kovacevic was bad this year. He started excellently but fell off a cliff. 750k for 2 playoff runs would have been valuable for a #5 dman. Now he's a #7 so nobody will care.

I never really saw it in him. I mean, he was okay in certain stretches but that's something #6/7 guys typically do.

Im sure I mentioned last year that he going to be a journeyman if he sticks in the NHL for a while.

And that my friends is why I consider our TDL is already over.
I just don't see anything significant coming back for any of those players.

I think Savard might be attractive but the return would not be as good as Monahan, and that extra year might be a problem as well even though his cap hit is reasonable.

Other than that, yeah, I don't see much that can bring an interesting return.

Allen might go to bring an end to this 3 goalie carousel, but that would just be a giveaway with nothing to get excited about as a return.

Savard with 50% retained will likely return a 2nd round pick with maybe another conditional pick attached to it. Like 2nd round pick 2024 + 3rd round pick 2025/26 if the team reach the scf and Savard plays half the game. Something like that.

yes thats very possible im guessing two late 1sts put us around 15ish ? could be gone by then
I think that NJ's 1st pick might be disponible in that range. They are actually picking 12OA.

Don't know what to offer them though as they wouldn't want two lesser 1sts but actual rsoter players.

Shouldn't Savard at 50% be worth more than a 1st?
No. He was worth a first couple of years ago when he was better/younger. It's a 2nd at best today.

They likely would want help now. Outside of Matheson or Anderson retained we have nothing. And even Anderson not sure that helps. So that leaves Matheson.

No way I trade a steady vet who mentors arguably the youngest D in the league for a 2nd round pick. That would be poor asset management. You have to surround these young players with a solid nucleus of veteran leadership.
That's why he'll be trade at the deadline 2025. He's good vet to have around but not worth extending at 34 years old.

UFA vs extra year at 50% he will be worth a 1st imo like i said in a earlier post GMs love players like him in the playoffs

It is difficult to say because most of the time guys like Savard are traded as rentals with no additional years remaining. I think Savard at ~$1.75M for 2 years should at least get a first given he's a guy playoff teams are always looking for.

Tampa gave up a first, third and fourth for him 3 years ago, he hasn't fallen off much and is still a guy who plays ~20 minutes a night, kills penalties and will risk his body to help his team win.

I think a team like Edmonton would benefit from him having 2 years and first could make sense from them if they continue to climb up the standings. Draisaitl has one year left on a bargain deal, so they should be going all in these next 2 years.

Wait to see what Tanev gets when Calgary trades him, then we'll know what the price for Savard will be. But that shoe has to drop first in the same way that Lindholm set the price for Monahan.

I've been unfortunately reading the main board trade forum and I'm absolutely floored at the level of discourse. Not in a positive way mind you. Moreso in a "how are these people functional in daily life" kind of way. And many of these clowns are mods for their teams. What's going on ? Can we blame this on TikTok somehow ?

Idiocracy was a documentary

Luckily we have the main character as our GM :)

Kulak got a 2nd Savard is another easy 1st, if retained.

To those saying “keep Savard we need vets”, remember that the Habs can always sign more vets in the off-season. There’s plenty available every season.

They could even trade a 7th for a vet to replace Savard until the end of the season.

Habs need to maximise their assets, not be sentimental.

You're right.

Tanev has been linked to half the teams in the league by now, even Ottawa. There's a lot of demand for a playoff warrior RD.
The rumored asking price is a 2nd and a prospect or a late 1st.

Once he's gone, teams will have to look at guys like Walker and Savard.
Remains to be seen if a team will offer enough for KH to consider trading him.
