Wouldn't it be weird if they put Lindstrom on waivers after the camp? Why even get this guy if he's a waiver fooder?

I think they will play him in the top 6 to start the season.

Apparently our scouts like him and think there's untapped potential...
There might be potential but there is still 7 guys clearly in front of him.

We have guys that are still waiver exempt, maybe they want to cook them in the AHL a little more...

Barron is still only 21 years old...

I can see him becoming a bottom pairing D but Xhekaj Harris have more potential in my opinion
I don't think he fights with those guys as they're left-handed.

He will fight with Barron and Kovacevic for a spot.

Kakko (NYR), Turcotte (LAK), Poulin (Pitt) & McMichael (Wash) from the 2019 draft

Whalstrom, Dellandrea, Farabee from 2018

Laf, Byfield, Askarov, Holtz from 2020
McMichael is the most likely to be a reclamation project. They are waiting if he improves with a new coach but I could see them trading him for a player giving them a better playoff chance / dumping Mantha. Poulin will be used as cheap depth in my opinion and I don t see PIT having cap space to do much. Kakko I see 0 chance of being traded given the fact he has potential and is already a very good 3rd line winger. Turcotte is a very interesting case in my opinion : is LAK ready to sell cheap on him and cut their losses or do they think potential is here and he has been slowed down ? In the first case, as a comp, Lias Andersson has been traded for a 2nd 3 years post draft. By the way let s not forget about him he does have a filthy shot.

Wahlstrom won t be moved become Isles need cheap depth and scoring, same for DAL and Delleandrea. Farabee will be too expensive given what he has proven and what the habs have to offer In my opinion.

I don t think Laf wants to be in MTL, no way LAK gives up on Byfield with Kopitar being 35. No idea about Holz and Askarov.

If they waive him it wouldn't be a big deal as Detroit threw him in as they were going to waive him anyways with all of the additions that they have made over the summer. I think the Habs see some potential but at the end of the day Detroit was clearing a contract to take on another contract and Hughes likely thought Lindstrom was the player that he liked the most out of the contracts that Yzerman was offering.

I think they waive Wideman and send Barron down so that they can have a rotation of Lindstrom, Harris, Kovacevic and maybe Xhekaj where they would all be able to play in 2/3 or 3/4 of the games if the entire roster is healthy so that none of them are rotting on the bench. This is a very good developmental strategy imo as sitting once every 3 or 4 games allows the player to come out of the trenches and observe the game from above before returning for the next game.

I would also love to see both Allen and DeSmith traded for picks and an AHL goalie who does not need to clear waivers to play with Dobes in Laval.

We could then go into the season with a ton of cap space that we could turn into picks again.

Just going to toss around another idea as well.......this time to save 2,642,857 in cap space over each of the next three seasons by trading Price to Arizona for Weber for one of our LD's or a pick or maybe a Kidney level prospect? I would even consider moving Harris in an expanded deal which would allow them to keep Barron up and rotate through Lindstrom, Kovacevic and Barron strictly on the right side or keep Wideman up as a 7D and play Lindstrom and Kovacevic every night with Barron as the first call up when an injury hits.

Apparently, Hughes and company targeted him in particular...It's not a random through-in.

Well.....that's what they say publicly as they should. I don't doubt that they see some upside but I can guarantee that the primary reason for dealing with Detroit was because Hughes was trying to do right by Petry and Yzerman expressed interest. I do believe that they are happy to take Lindstrom off of Detroit's hands as he was the odd man out in a series of weird moves by Yzerman and just might be a steal.

Honestly, I never got this sudden necessity to accommodate Petry and his family not once but twice in the span of one year.

But fine if he/they think it could bring some positive vibe going forward, whatever.

But placing Lindstrom on waivers after the camp is done will be like letting everyone know that he just gave Petry away.

So I'm pretty sure they will keep him around for the foreseeable future.

I think they will keep him as well but Petry had already served his purpose in getting rid of Hoffman and bringing back a 2nd. Hughes was very honest about trying to do the right thing and the 4th and Lindstrom are just gravy. It would have been an enormous douche move to acquire a player that demanded a trade and had to stay much longer than he wanted until Hughes got what he wanted the first time. No player would respect Hughes if he reacquired Petry and did the same thing again especially with the very real possibility that Petry would play like sh*t if we brought him back.

I am all for getting a good look at Lindstrom and I seriously doubt that they will waive him as well, but if he stinks up camp and they choose to dump him I will lose zero sleep....especially knowing that I never have to watch Hoffman again and we have another 2nd round pick in the bag.

I feel like we’re getting the necessary surplus at a few positions (d and centre specifically) and with draft picks to be able to put a good package together in a year or so…

I was looking at Kyle Connors contract…would be a great add but ends right when I expect us to start contending

Time will tell.If i am correct will bring this post up in a year or so .If it doesn't happen and he busts i won't;););)
it can happen but it wont be in a year he still struggles alot defensively
"Substantially younger" lol it's a 1.5 year difference. Barely worth mentioning. Vilardi is 6'3, Dach is 6'4. Again barely worth mentioning. And Vilardi played as much C as Dach has for the Habs and is going to play C for the Jets too. You're point about "vastly greater potential" is literally your opinion and not based on anything they have showed in the NHL to date. Again, I repeat at this point of their respective careers they are similar players.
im with you on this personally i like Dach's ceilling more but today Vilardi showed more hopefully Kirby can stay healthy this year and keep growing will need him to reach hes potentiel

I have a gut feeling that this Habs team (if they stay healthy) will be surprisingly competitive in 23-24.
They will certainly be more entertaining. Last year we showed we could put some very decent hockey plays together and I for one had a more enjoyable experience when I was able to see it live. Before last season it was one of the goals I had other than finishing lower than 5th. I just wanted to see the kids start playing better hockey with the puck.

The promising thing is that this team is young and is very talented.
I would still like someone like Michael MaCarron on the 4th line.

...but that's not how it works. You're saying that there's no chance he becomes less than a top 4. You literally can't be proven right, even if he becomes a top 4.

it sure will be annoying playing Lucic with Boston and Reaves,Domi,Bertuzzi with the Leafs

Dont want Xhekaj to have to deal with those guys specially Reaves and Lucic not that he woudlnt be able to hold hes own but i want Arber to become a good dman also not just someone who has to drop the gloves every game
