Just spout BS while ignoring the long term track record.

Star players recently traded for non-amazing packages:

Erik Karlsson
Pierre Luc Dubois
Jack Eichel
Alex DeBrincat (twice)
Seth Jones
Max Pacioretty
Ryan O'Reilley
Elias Lindholm
Nazeem Kadri
Taylor Hall
Tyler Toffoli
Vincent Trochek
Oliver Ekman Larsson
Bo Horvat
Kevin Fiala

Now, I'm sure you can argue about exception/excuse for every single one of those players - not as good, injured after the trade, cap hit slightly higher, traded in the Atlantic division, 2 years older, etc etc etc.

Or you can look at the big picture, which is that the Habs will not have to give up Dach, Slafkovsky, Mailloux, a 1st and take on a cap dump to acquire a star player.

Reality: Star players are available for a reasonable price. A year from now we might see Hughes acquire a star forward for something like Calgary's first, Logan Mailloux, Joshua Roy, and Joel Armia.
Reasonable is relative. How many “reasonable” Habs fan do you know? Lol

Usually they go for a 1st and a quality prospect. But blue chip prospects pretty much never get traded. Usually a 1st and someone like Mailloux does the trick.

Yup, the Habs already have the assets to acquire a good forward. I expect Hughes to do so in the next 18 months, he may choose to wait to better know what he already has now.

He said as much. As long as they’re not a bottom 10 team, he’ll pull that trigger.
Which makes sense. When you acquire an "elite" player via trade said player will almost always be 26 and over which means he got around 5-6 years max before he starts to decline. So you need to make sure you wont waste 3-4 of those years as a team learning to make the playoffs and then win the early rounds. You must do like Sakic and act when the team is ready. We are at least i'd say two years away from that.

Habs needs RW

What would be te cost to get Joakim kemell

Nasville could use some future RHD

Mailloux + 2nd pick/Kidney ?
Barron + 2nd pick/Kapanen ?

Until they figure out what to do with Armia, or include Ylonen in a deal I don't think they'll be adding any forwards anytime soon. I'd love to get Kemell but I don't think it's likely. That being said, I'd make both those trades for him.

This is my argument as well. Only next year will the gloves come off in terms of expectations. I've always thought that for a number of reasons. MSL will be looking for a new contract. The it's okay to make mistakes (numerous times) won't be tolerated anymore. I also expect him to be far tougher on forwards who aren't giving it. This is when the deeper evaluation will take place and yes I do expect they will find they have some less than ideal players in certain roles.

Mailloux + Armia 50% retained + 4th round pick
in exchange for
Joakim Kemell

I'm fairly certain a Left D gets moved before Mailloux. So who is the equivalent I'd hate to give up Engstrom.
I think Nashville needs RHD but perhaps they would take Harris or Struble.

But I think we need a 1st rounder to pry Kemell loose.

Mailloux is also not cleared to play in the NHL. There's no way he will be traded before that, as his value is literally nothing.

I mean if this how you define stars no wonder you think it's easy to trade for them.

Some of the players on the list that are actually stars (or were perceived to be at the time) and what they got in return:

Jack Eichel traded for:
Peyton Krebs (17th overall)
Alex Tuch (18th overall pick and just scored 79 points but basically I'd say scored as much as Dach just did for us last season before being traded)
16th overall pick (Noah Ostlund who is a great prospect)
2nd round pick

Alex Debrincat (first time and with no guarantee of a long term resigning) traded for:
7th overall pick
39th overall pick
3rd rounder

PLD traded for:
Gabe vilardi (11th overall pick, 0.65 ppg roughly similar to Dach I'd say)
Alex Iafallo (0.61 ppg)
Rasmus Kupari (20th overall pick in 2018 so room to still live up too it)
2nd round pickk

How are any of these packages comparable to calgary's 1st, Mailloux, Roy and Armia? Mailloux and Roy are complete unknown projections at this point. Could be anything or could be nothing. Armia is a cap dump. And calgary's 1st remains to be seen if it's worth anything. Might be in the bottom 10 of the draft.
