The culture doesn't change when you hire imbeciles from RDS and convince the fans they're good at their job. Joel Bouchard and now Chantal Machabée had their tires pumped by all the media and fans, including Anglos.

Machabée can piss off.

...sure, but it all starts at the TOP...Molson won't ever cross that certain portion of the fanbase again after the Cunneyworth situation...doesn't want the negative press or anything that could even conceivably drop his products' sales...as a certain Texas Rattlesnake always said:

Yup - they started incorporating an analytics org, skill development and organized scouting structure for every region of the globe during Gorton’s tenure as GM

It can’t work when your young players you drafted get stuck behind guys like panarin or don’t have space for them on the top 6.

So Fracophone players shouldn't be traded away even if it helps the team, because we wouldn't want to disrespect and anger the fans by improving the team.

Okay Chantal, you're the first person of the new regime to join my shitlist. Imbecile.

If this is 100% legit I'm shocked she would admit this, unless she's just trying to flex her power/swing to some random radio guy, which I would consider unprofessional

...Monahan was a scorer who didn't do much else his entire career and now he's RoboSean...he's not a Bottom Six type player...
I’d take Monahan on 1 leg over Evans.
He has a sick shot, can help the PP, he’s superior on face offs and can help mentor the kids. I highly doubt they got him so he can sit eating hotdogs while Evans slots in.

...they play two totally different roles, that's the point I'm trying to make here...slotting Monahan in the Bottom 6 so he can hopefully add some offense but bring down our defensive capabilities there is a huge mistake, imo...if he does play Bottom 6, you put him on wing and let him take the tougher draws...hurts us less defensively on wing...

Worked just fine I’d say for Zetterbeg & Datsyuk who both played their first 2-3 years in NHL on 3rd / 4th lines w PP TOI

Besides it’s not as if Habs are actually “loaded” w top-6 prospects…. they potentially have ONE in Slaf

Farrell when his NCAA will be over this year.

Heineman can impress too.

Mesar in around 2 years.

This will all come down to the deadline, and a teams injury issues etc Supply vs Demand is a crazy slippery slope.
None of us in our wildest dreams thought Ben Chairot would fetch a 1st..................and he did.
I did cuz of his rep in playoffs

I'm not sure I do Mysak for Lundqvist - I would much rather move a roster forward (Evans specifically)....we are going to need a few players to hit in 1-2 years when these expiring contracts lapse. Evans is a good player, but our forward roster right now is packed, especially at centre.
I seriously doubt the Rangers would go for Evans. They want a prospect or player on ELC due to salary cap constraints.

Evans is certainly better right now than any of the center prospects. There is no guarantee that any of the prospects will make it in the NHL. Evans has already demonstrated he is a bottom 6 center.
I was commenting to the original post that compared the prospects 2 years from now.

They do but Monahan’s is one we need more of. Evans is a serviceable NHLer but he’s not an unreadable pick and is easily a trade chip. I highly doubt he finishes his contract in Montreal.

Lots of prospects “potentially can”, but reality is vast majority don’t.

Even 4th liners were regularly the best players on their teams pre draft.

Need look no further back than Gainey’s era, Habs were supposed to have been loaded w forward prospects - AKos, Locke, Avtsin, D’Agostino, SKos etc.. how many lasted 5-years in the NHL let alone in top-6 roles?

This can't be real what the hell. If yes , well respect from Chantal is gone.
This french narrative to make fans happy is just for the media. Actual fans dont care

...the "old" Monahan (whom we actually could had drafted if Gauthier had even been a somewhat respectable GM and got a 1st in the Cammalleri trade instead of a 2nd) is something we could absolutely use...in our Top 6...no one knows if that player even exists anymore, not to mention that we are talking about a Bottom 6 role, one that Evans plays and plays well...admittedly, I like Evans and want to keep him around, but even my bias for him doesn't skew the fact that Evans plays a Bottom 6 role much better than any version of Monahan ever has...

There zero doubt as Guy Larose stated that this will be a carbon copy attempt at NYR 2-year rebuild - now will HuGo actually be successful in luring game changing UFAs…. huge TBD
Nice to see their forward-thinking ways but what the hell is their AHL team doing in a crime-infested dump like Hartford? :help:

That’s the world class ambience they are reserving for their farmhands?

Of course, they are investing in modern methods but having your AHL team closer to MSG, in an updated building goes hand in hand with putting their minor league players in the best possible position to be successful.

If the Machabée story is true, it is frustrating to hear that the Habs are still systematically handicapping themselves. Declining to make a trade that improves the future of the team because of the where the players were born, is a brain dead move in a hyper competitive league.

Why would HuGo ever ask her anything? Just make whatever trade they want and it's up to her to come up with an explanation for the Mediots.
It wouldn't surprise me if he asked her opinion. Though I'd be very surprised if her opinion stopped HuGo from making the trade. I could see the conversation going similar to the one I had with my wife the other day.

H10H: Since our little girl is way past needing a car seat. I think I'm going to trade in my jeep, and buy something more sporty. I miss my Viper.

Wife: Well you know, winter is coming and the Viper is very impractical. Plus you pissed off the neighbours because it was so loud.

H10H: Black.

Wife: Excuse me?

H10H: Can you grab me a coffee? Black.

Wife: You know I own a gun right?

H10H: Yes I do. Can you please go and grab me a black coffee. :)

Men some here like to see drama everywhere...

the only thing Chantal said is that one time Hughes informe her about a potential trade with a French player and she said, since she’s the PR, to be careful with that because the player is popular in the fanbase. She never said to don’t do the trade

Maybe I'm overdramatic but it is a fireable offense IMO. It is one thing for it to be true behind closed doors, but to openly brag about handicapping ourselves is a complete joke

We have a French player on our team that's popular with the fan base right now? I don't think so

I don't think there are any French players in the league popular with our fan base right now except PLD

...so "Let's be careful with trading said Quebecois player, even if it is to address a need and/or improve the team, because they are popular with the fans"...exactly what everyone else in here said...and you don't see that as a problem??...:dunno:
