...Evans is the type of Bottom Six C that a team needs; talented enough to thrive in the role & young enough to still grow in it...giving up on him would be a massive mistake, imo, unless the offer he was involved in was a massive win for us...
I like Evans but I don’t think he’s better than any of the 4 centres we have or the ones coming up like Mysak, Beck, Kapanen etc.

Salary retention will be a big factor as well.

I doubt there's salary retention on more than for pending UFA like Monahan and Dadonov. I like the idea of retaining 200k on Evans, but if there's retention on more than a year it should be very low.

...Suzuki, Dach, Dvorak, and...who??...hope for Monahan to take the reigns is overblown, imo, as even when he was healthy, he was a scorer who isn't suited for a Bottom Six role...Byron??...he's a broken winger who can play C when it's absolutely necessary, but he isn't a natural C & is better on wing and probably will either be gone via trade or LTIRed and "retire" soon...Evans plays an important role on this team and his contributions have been under the radar for some time...

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but rumor is Hughes was going to sign Klingberg to a 1 year deal, retain 50% and immediately trade him to Edmonton, while simultaneously acquiring a French player and shipping him out in a 3 team deal.

No clue how valid it is, and maybe it would've been a stupid trade, but good to see some outside of the box thinking from our management group

I truly hate that she gave her PR input and it could have derailed the trade. Maybe it was even better than the Monahan trade...

Honestly I'm not sure if it's fake news because I don't speak French so I don't know what is said in the 50 minute interview.

Could just be a picture of her and some fake source

I'm pretty sure you can't trade a player you sign in UFA until the start of the new year.

I'm not sure I do Mysak for Lundqvist - I would much rather move a roster forward (Evans specifically)....we are going to need a few players to hit in 1-2 years when these expiring contracts lapse. Evans is a good player, but our forward roster right now is packed, especially at centre.
I only wish Evans well but with the multiple concussions he’s suffered, I wonder if he’s not at a significant risk of an early exit from the game.

With the other forward options now in tow, as you mention, he is not someone you want to hold on to long term.

I’m not a doctor. Nor do I play one on TV or the internets. Maybe I’m wrong about Evans’ potential career longevity but that’s what happens when we’re on the outside looking in.

Only the team is really privy to the extent of the damage he’s suffered and I’ll defer to them or anyone else in here who knows more than what I’m speculating upon.

As long as he can play, I’m putting Monahan in over Evans every game. Way more tools and better at face-offs. As for the youngsters, they’re all more talented than Evans.

Evans is a solid player but he’s a dime a dozen in the NHL.

So, according to the writer of the above, Mollie Walker, Jordan Barron is just a “borderline prospect.”
I took this instance of "borderline" to mean someone that is maybe still a prospect or maybe ready to be a regular and not someone that is maybe a good prospect, maybe a bad one, which is not exactly a hot take.

In the context of trading value (examined within the article’s stated intent to identify a viable trade target for Lundkvist), I don’t know how it could mean anything but the player’s quality as a prospect and not how far along he is in his trajectory to the NHL.

If it were about the prospect’s proximity to the NHL, why did the writer not make similar comments about Harris and Mysak, whose names were also included in the piece?

But, to each their own.

Wonder which francophone player it was. Bourgault?

...Monahan was a scorer who didn't do much else his entire career and now he's RoboSean...he's not a Bottom Six type player...

The blurb was talking about Montreal's lack of depth on the right side, so saying that one of their prospective defenseman might not even play in the NHL adds credence to their guess that Montreal would be interested in a different RD.

The word “borderline” is a qualitative term that principally evokes the idea of “not being good enough.”

The writer knew or should have known that it doesn’t matter how far along Barron is when the Habs are a rebuilding team.

We’ll agree to disagree.

Machabée expressed her concern and convinced the general manager to abort the trade in order to keep the respect of the fanbase and not anger them with how they could have treated the [French/Francophone] player in a quick three-team move.
So Fracophone players shouldn't be traded away even if it helps the team, because we wouldn't want to disrespect and anger the fans by improving the team.

Okay Chantal, you're the first person of the new regime to join my shitlist. Imbecile.

...the culture of the Montreal Canadiens when it comes to a situation like this will never change as long as Molson owns the team...keeping said certain portion of the Habs fanbase content (and buying his product) will always trump everything else...more's the pity...

The culture doesn't change when you hire imbeciles from RDS and convince the fans they're good at their job. Joel Bouchard and now Chantal Machabée had their tires pumped by all the media and fans, including Anglos.

Machabée can piss off.

No it’s not the same as NYR. Did you ever see NYR put everything in place the develop the kids?

I sure hope so it’s not like NYR because it’s gonna fail, retools don’t work. Hughes and Gorton know better.
Yup - they started incorporating an analytics org, skill development and organized scouting structure for every region of the globe during Gorton’s tenure as GM

There zero doubt as Guy Larose stated that this will be a carbon copy attempt at NYR 2-year rebuild - now will HuGo actually be successful in luring game changing UFAs…. huge TBD
