Barrie is much better than Wideman.Barrie is not that much better than Wideman defensively, or even offensively.

For the price, I prefer Wideman. But IF Habs can ship Hoffman out West, I am all for it.Barrie is much better than Wideman.
For the price, I swap Hoffman for Barrie every day of the week and put Wideman into the 7th D spot he deserves before going back to Europe. For the price, I prefer Wideman. But IF Habs can ship Hoffman out West, I am all for it.
I actually think the Oilers kind of need him to be honest. Sure he's not perfect, but who replaces him?
If Barrie isn’t the PP1 QB, he is pretty useless. I live in the GTA, so I saw a lot of him on the Leafs where this was the case. I can see why the Oilers would want to get rid of him if they have another option. In turn, looking at their forward group, they don’t have a lot of scoring depth outside their top 5, so Hoffman would be of use to them. Perfect trade, really.Bouchard's probably already better. Barrie's mostly a PP specialist and Bouchard has more than enough ability to produce on a PP with McDavid, Draisaitl, Kane, Hyman, RNH, etc. They needed Kulak to make him look not bad 5v5 last season.

Tweet? Are you guys interested in Barrie?
No?
Well some guy is tweeting that you guys are going to get him.
That guy is a dud. Another fringe site is saying the same. Several hockey writers playing GM have been suggesting that such a trade happen but no credible source has actually reported that it was in the works. Are you guys interested in Barrie?
No?

I think their D group lacks depth TBH
If you really want to know, the Oiler poster is referring to that fake-ass Hockeyy Insiderr guy.Tweet?
Just found it. Thanks.Fake sources, but if you really want to know, the Oiler poster is referring to that fake-ass Hockeyy Insiderr guy.
Yet another obvious Oilers/ Habs trade that would make sense for both teams that likely won’t material.Would do Hoffman for Barrie
Just found it. Thanks.
Looks it it stems from a bunch of tweets after Friedman postulated Montreals possible interest in him back in July.
Clearly fake yes, but still an interesting premise nonethelessrumour fake. its from 30k bot followers.,
Hard to say. Usually market puts premium on D or O depending on what shortage is but I think default goes to D, especially RHD that provide offence. Both players at exact same cap hit and term and similar age.
Who’s more flippable in their final year?
From what I have read Bouchard is a a 1d talent.I think their D depth is fine, its the top end that's an issue. Nurse isn't an ideal 1D, but Ceci being his D partner is the bigger issue.

Basically what you do is, take a rumour from a reliable source and spit it out.We had Hoffman Barrie swap for an entire year on this board
Now the twitter sphere is catching up. Late as always.
Anyways Hoffman makes 0 sense for Edmonton. Edmonton needs a real top 6 player and Hoffman is not that. Hoffman is a bottom 6 player on a team with an awful powerplay.
Mcdavid doesnt need lazy Hoffman on his PP.
Also when in ur top 4 dman u have Ceci Kulak and Barrie , you are not trading Barrie for god damn Hoffman lmao.
It makes sense for the habs but makes completely none for the Oilers. Oilers need another Hyman type of player. Anderson would fit but the Price would be different.
The Renaud Lavoie special ahahahhaBasically what you do is, take a rumour from a reliable source and spit it out.
Or you take the obvious that's been discussed here for months, throw it out and take credit for it.
I think that’s to be expected from a young D though. D take longer to develop and seeing good progression from year to year is key. I don’t watch him enough to know but if he’s still getting better vs stagnating then I’d say it’s a good sign....the eye test so far on him has been a mixed bag...some shifts he's transitioning the puck smoothly, crisp passes, and he has a good shot...others, he looks lost while skating backwards panicked & staring at the forward coming down his side that walks him easily for a scoring opportunity...he has some great tools, but to be a true Top Pairing guy you need to either be absolutely dominating offensively (which he isn't) or be a fantastic two-way force (which he isn't)...

Systems also play a huge role. Depending on what the system is and the type of player/what he’s asked to do, may not play to his strengths.
There’s a lot that goes into it so having good pro scouts helps a lot to determine whether they’re worth it or not.
