Even if Gallagher was an UFA at the end of the season I think the Habs are adding a sweetener to trade him. The Flames had to trade a 1st to get rid of Monahan who had similar stats last season and makes a bit. Pacioretty got traded for future considerations. Dadonov, who makes $5 million and had 20 goals last season, got traded for a long term LTIR contract.
He'll go on LTIR the next surgery he has, and prolly stay on it. I'd like to believe he has too much pride to accept that much money, when he contributes like min $1m/yr vet

I’d make this trade in a heartbeat, but I don’t think the Rags would
why not.

Ylonen is NHL ready to replace Krav on their third line.
Norlinder is a decent prospect on defense.

I beleive these 2 makes up for Krav.

Mysak for Lund is a no brainer.

If you think that Ylonen is ready to step into the 3rd line of a Stanley Cup contending team, then it’s pretty clear where our disagreement lies.
Ylonen and Norlinder are both a dime a dozen prospect

The only GM in hockey who thinks Gally is worth his contract, is no longer a GM.

Gally will be our Dustin Brown. Untradable and will be a Hab until at least the TDL the year before his contract is up unless Bergevin takes over as GM or Mike Milbury becomes a GM again.
I seem to remember a tweet that indicated at the time of Gallagher’s extension, that several other GMs that were consulted at that time, would have consented the same contract to him.

These GMs need to be found and placed on speed dial. Pronto.

LOL...........absolutely.
All jokes aside, the hockey fraternity never seems to ever discount or throw one of their counterparts under the bus.
It just seems they are all too polite when it comes to pointing out that they think a guy is insane for offering player A that type of contract...........now there are exceptions, and Brian Burke would fit that mold!! LOL
The only way we get rid of Gally is for a rebound season to occur, and we sweeten the deal somehow........he is so overpaid it's not funny.
I can still see Bergevin crying after giving out this insane deal.................we all knew this guy was gonna break down, little did we know it would be in the very FIRST year of the deal.

FWIW, suggestion from a random site for a Habs trade for Lundkvist involves Ylonen.

What they say the Rags are looking for: “… either a pick or a forward, because the Rangers are likely seeking future assets or bottom-6 players, as the Rangers are entering their window of competition.”

Just for discussion purposes, would you rather see Ylonen go or one of Kidney/ Mysak?
I wouldn't have a problem with trading Ylonen for Lundkvist straight up. Not sure Rangers would go for that though. From the sound of Rangers fans, they would prefer a center on an entry level deal.

I hate this logic…too much pride to accept his salary?! Uhh wake up dude . Doesn’t work like that. He’ll get his money and no player is doing their team a “favor”

Im not suggesting he retire... but when hes a 4th line fixture making 6m thats gotta be embarrassing.. im saying he can keep his 6m and not play, park his butt on ltir

His contract makes Lucics look like a steal.

Gallagher in theory probably has enough injuries for permanent LTIR. But he’s also only 30 and If he wants to play as opposed to sitting on his ass doing nothing, which is the kind of guy he comes across as, there’s absolutely nothing we can do to stop that. The embarrassment of his contract is a failure of the previous management who didn’t calculate the risks of signing him long term, not on himself. It’s unfortunate for us but that’s where we’re at.

Indeed, it is the very famous Elliotte Friedman who advances in his latest podcast that Kirby Dach is very very close to being signed or that he may even already be, but that the CH would expect certain things to make the official announcement.
Several possible answers to this question. Kent Hughes has repeated on several occasions that he wants to get his hands on an experienced right-handed defender. Maybe that's it. He may be waiting for confirmation that Paul Byron and/or Sean Monahan will not be able to start the season at the same time as all the other players on the team and that he will be able to place them on the long-term injured list. term. This option would allow Hughes more space under the salary cap so that Dach's salary does not exceed the allowable limit.

VS'Carey Price . As Olivier Payment of the Danslescoulisses.com site points out , Price must report to Montreal to take his physical tests. It's a formality for fans, but for the Habs, it's only then that the goalkeeper will really be on the long-term injured list and that his salary will allow him to obtain the famous credit linked to the LTIR.

The final option may be that Kent Hughes is currently working on a deal for one of his too many forwards currently under contract. With Dach, the CH would have 17 attackers signed for the NHL in Montreal, it's far too many. Many trade rumors have been circulating since the beginning of the summer about Christian Dvorak , Joel Armia, Jonathan Drouin and Mike Hoffman . Will Hughes be able to pass one of them on to another team? There, again, the salary of the player who would leave would no longer be counted on the mass of the team and would offer more leeway to the general manage

LET THE buzzing begin

Is Friedman still saying that the Dach extension could come in @ 4 years x 3.5m like he was saying last week? I still don't get why Hughes would sign Dach to a 4 year contract which takes him right to UFA. Why not try to sign him to a 2 or 3 year bridge deal instead so he'd still be a RFA after?

There is no doubt, between now and October 1st there will be some movement.............we have too many players, without even considering the likes of Mysak, Guhle, types trying to crack the lineup.........

Friedman reported it too on his podcast.

And to be clear, the reporting is also that signing Dach to a 4 year contract would not take him to UFA. His 2020-2021 season doesn't count as part of the 7 year rule since he wasn't on the NHL roster when he was injured. He'd be an RFA after the contract.

We’ll also need roster space in order to take advantage of that first ranking waiver wire priority the Habs have until Nov. 1st but am confident that Hughes will find a way.

Thanks for clarifying. Last I saw Engels wasn't really sure if Dach would be a UFA or not if he signed for 4 years so I guess he finally got the answer he was looking for in regards to if Dach would be a UFA after 4 years or not, so good news then that he'll still be a RFA.

Seems Engels was looking into Dach's status along with Friedman according to this tweet so it seems Friedman was also in on getting that info.

You're right, my bad !

If a deal is in the works, maybe Hughes is targeting a RHD who can QB a PP. That would put Lundkvist on the radar.

Another option is working out something with the Kings who are stacked with RHDs. Marco D’Amico suggested a target:

Others to consider from the Kings’ roster: Sean Durzi, Jordan Spence, Brandt Clarke.

Bottom line, there is complementarity between Habs and Kings:

“The Kings could use their surplus of young defensemen, and they could (at the same time) take advantage of the CH's surplus of forwards, to add the other top-9 forward they've been after for a while.”
