DeBrincat isn’t going to cost a lot to acquire AND cost a lot on a contract.

Wanting a big contract is going to suppress how much Ottawa can get back in a trade. Hell, it’s why he is available to begin with.

I think it’s silly some of you are saying you would pass on adding someone who has shown an ability to shoot/score better than anyone we have on the roster. But that’s me. Some people on here were actually against signing Stamkos as a UFA.
Signing Stamkos as a UFA would have resulted in us winning nothing and ending up with worse picks every year. I’m glad we didn’t have the chance.

Dubois has requested a trade out... Move some of our picks and our over population of young role players and make it happen.. If he agrees to an extension. If no extension, can't see us paying much or being in the hunt for him.
Dubois to the Jets brass ;

Ive been to Winnipeg, so I can respect his wish.

Also a talented centre like Dubois, in his prime, rarely becomes available.
If he would be happy to come here.. I’d be happy to have him.

Tkachuk did the exact same thing last year. Eichel wanted out of Buffalo (albeit diffetent scenario), Kadri was said to be a pain before Colorado. The teams that took the chance on them seemed to do alright.

If he just wants out of a city or a situation... it happens alot in other sports. Its a business, if his only issue is where he wants to live I could care less. He would improve our team and if he wants to live in Detroit for a while, make it happen.
It'll probably cost Kasper/9th overall. Are people actually ok with that? He's an RFA the following year.

It's not gonna be Zadina, prospects, plus 2nd round collection of picks. Lots of teams will want him.

Yes it does

But he seems unhappy quickly in multiple organizations and discloses that via the media(through agent) and uninspired play.

The PLD wanting out rumors arent new nor surprising..

He also just dosent deliever in my opinion

No thx

Who would be happy in Columbus or Winnipeg?

Offer the 9th pick OR 17th pick and mid range prospects.

Hard pass on PLD.

I'm totally fine with a player being a mercenary or even asking for a trade if they're not a good fit somewhere. But PLD has done the things that @norrisnick thinks ROR does. The guy has a long history of phoning it in.

He wants to play for Montreal, because it's his home town team. Montreal didn't want to pay the Jet's asking price and went with Dach instead. I don't see him being any happier in Detroit than he was in Columbus, he's from Quebec.

I'll pass.

Not even just the return.

Good luck getting him signed to anything not dumb. $8M+ is dumb for a tiny one dimensional winger. No shot he brings anywhere near the on and off ice value of Larkin. Which makes paying him anything near $8.7M dumb.
doing what you suggest and retain perron after this year, sign suter AND veleno to extensions, and still keeping zadina are all very dumb ideas.

If you keep perron at same cap hit, sign suter and veleno to the 4m you were saying, and still keep zadina at current aav and no raise is a total of 10.7mill against the cap.

So you would rather have 4 players added who will do absolutely nothing to our team for the future, than to sign a goal scorer at 7x8 or 7x8.5 and keeping veleno at (most likely) a bridge deal around 3x1.5?

Then promote from within with soderblom, keep kubalik (he wont really get a raise after how they used him), and resign chiasson like some media reports have said, and you have a team that can score more than keeping the status quo you are suggesting.

Do you think you make sense with illogical statements like these? Or am I missing something that is glaringly obvious? Or do you just not like ideas that most people would be open to/okay with because I would actually understand that in some respects.

Veleno, Suter, Zadina are dirt cheap depth that know the system. One of which will be our 4th C and one our 13th forward. Perron was our 2nd leading scorer and a key figure in our top 6 and PP. You retain him or replace him. Either way the cap hit is there. You can't just handwave these four players away without replacements. Consider them place holders for whatever player with similar caphits.

So yes, you kind of need to fill those spots. Four players for $10M is significantly below a league average cap hit. Rolling in a ton of ELCs is one thing, but good luck with that strategy from Yzerman.

Also, yes, you are missing the glaringly obvious that Mo, Ray, Ras, and Bergie are going to be at least $18M more expensive in '24-'25 than they are this coming season. Plus whoever is the longer term 2nd pairing RHD is likely at least $4-5M. Backup is gonna be $2-3M.

You can squeeze things to make it work maybe, but is DeBrincat worth it?

Ummm.. it's not like Detroit is a top ranked global city if we're being truthful.

The guy seems selfish and uses his agent via the media.

He is not whatsoever what embodies SY or the DRW
Detroit for sure isn't a top ranked city fir sure but, I've been there a few times and I actually.really enjoyed myself. Obviously there is lots of negatives about the city but it still has some cool stuff, still desirable suburbs where your money goes alot further.

Especially during the winter, average Jan high is 12F, average low -6F. Detroit seems almost tropical in comparison.
I don't know is it impossible to do, but they should just find out these family guys who will love Northern Europe lifestyle.

Family men, who like to snowcross or go to ice-fishing. Tomas Holmström was that, Janne Niinimaa was that. They don't care about the city. They just want play hockey at top level, live family life and won't care a damn if there's a new york nearby. Just nature and calmness what Michigan will offer. It doesn't differ at all from Sweden or Finland.

Just find the right guys, who are that type of persons and lock them up. They are there, not everybody will want a beach or megacity nearby.
