I have time for Fabbri as a player. Hard to count on him staying healthy though. Funny thing they compare Benson to Fabbri in the Black Book this year.
@OgeeOgelthorpe that was just to illustrate they have some concerns with how much compete he has with his smaller frame and if he will be able to stay healthy.

Which I do think is a fair concern in regards to Benson.

I see the compete level up there, too. But I just really, really dislike the Black Book as a product this year. The comparables this year are kind of weird to me.

I had a feeling this trade would piss everyone off. Interesting though to get an idea of what the outside world believes it will take to land him.
I'm not sure that everyone is fully aligned with what ADB's value is looking like of late. This article seemed to base it entirely on what Ottawa traded to get him in the first place. He's been actively shopped for weeks now and it's crickets. He may not fetch a first at all.

I am enjoying it and I have spent a lot of time reading it. Did you buy it? Or were you too mad after you heard they didn't love Reinbacher as much as you

Columbus has 6 right-handed defensemen signed for this coming season. I really hope Yzerman is talking Jarmo's ear off on a daily basis.

And an impact forward was only ever going to come via trade.

I was under the impression you were against adding any top 6 forward via trade because of future cap needs .

Personally I am not a fan of any of Clb potentially available rt shot dmen

I bought it. Not as big a fan this year when compared to last season. I also have the eliteprospects draft guide (1600 pages!) and Mckeen's draft guide. The black book seems a lot more biased and overly critical this year than last year, in my opinion.

I've been very clear on my stance. It's multiple top 6 forwards that become an issue. That and DeBrincat specifically. People see the cap space for this season and neglect the extensions needed next season.

Considering Friedman added a blurb to the podcast this morning speculating about our interest in Konecney, I have to think there is some actual smoke there.

No.

People like me plan all damn scenarios long-term, even though bolstering the team short-term. On capgeek at armchair GM-mode you can see all those future years how the cap is gonna fill and how there still is space for all extensions.

I never suggest anything that won't work or isn't manageable. But keep yelling that, how it won't work.

It will work, do one study by yourself and stop the freaking whining all the time.

We can add 26 million for 5 roster spots at this summer if Yzerman will want to complete that scenario. That's the big picture and everything will work also long-term.

Values can be anything, like 8+8+8+1+1, 7+7+7+2+2 or 6+5+5+5+5 million on those deals.

Trade Det 2024 1st + Veleno for Elias Lindholm
Trade 17th overall 2023 + Zadina for DeBrincat
Trade Bos 2024 1st + Al. Johansson for Konecny

DeBrincat - Larkin - Raymond
Söderblom - Lindholm - Konecny
Fabbri - Copp - Perron
Kubalik - Rasmussen - Berggren

Never look back.

Still get RFA Swayman in net and RhD Mayfield for defence.

So... is it safe to say that our roster this year and next in your opinion will and should be the same as the one we finished with in April, albeit raises for Perron, Kubalik, Raymond, Berggren, Rasmussen and Seider?

That is pretty depressing cause that roster was atrocious
I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to watch one period of hockey next season if that was the case.

Exactly. People should learn to read.

There still will be short-tearm vets around for the next decade and probably forever, which will come and leave, new vets will join and leave.

But long-term contracts are the basis of the core you build around.

So far we have one. Dylan Larkin. After Seider extension and things like DeBrincat trade, we could have three and so on. Raymond next etc.
yeah, not sure why someone would think perron or wheeler would be core pieces...quite perplexing.

I think our core is going to end up being something like Larkin, Seider, Raymond, Debrincat (or other big name scorer?), Edvinsson, Kasper, Cossa. After that, the rest need to show why they should be a part of the core, players like soderblom, berggren, kubalik?, wallinder, aljo.

Yzerman did say in that press conference that he doesn't necessarily like long, 8 year contracts because (and I am paraphrasing at what he exactly said) "they don't typically age well" and by that point would be difficult to trade at any point. I can only assume he thinks of examples like an OEL or (imo) Panarin (making over 11 mil AAV and doesn't produce anything like mcd, mathews, etc? weird, no show in the playoffs too).

So, if Yzerman gives a 6-8 year contract to someone, he has definitely thought about them being in our core.

I would be ok with Konecny as he has term, has never really gotten to play with decent wingers, and is only 26. He could probably be acquired for less than Lindholm. He has some jam in his game.

Signed for two more years at 5.5. I would still want another top-6 winger but I think he would be a good fit. Younger than ROR and cheaper than Lindholm.

If you sign Raymond for 5.5 and Seider for 8 you could have a core of Larkin, Seider, Kasper, DeBrincat, Konecny, Raymond, Edvinsson potentially costing less than ~40 million for the next 4-5 seasons before the big RFA bridge/UFA paydays come in. With the order in which contracts expire SY would have a lot of flexibility to manage the roster and a rising cap will make those 8 million dollar deals a lot more palatable.

Konecny is a winger.

Could Konecny AND Debrincat happen?
Could? Maybe. Should? No. Konecny towers over DeBrincat at a massive 5'10". Though DeBrincat is listed 3lbs heavier at 178lb.

We'd have the smallest top 6 wingers in the league if we got DeBrincat and Konecny.

He is listed as a center everywhere, but yeah, he only took like 60 faceoffs in 2022-23.

And that's when the GM does his job and makes trades.

Maatta, Walman or Chiarot get traded. Probably one of Perron, Fabbri or Kubalik as well. Hell, maybe even Copp depending on if the guy can turn things around or not. There are your savings. to keep the cap hit below 88 mil.
