Aside from the last 10-20 posts, people do realize that Lindholm has one year left, right?
Yeah, they would never willingly negotiate an extension before July 1st. That would be against the rules.

There's no rule against negotiating an extension before July 1st. There's a rule against signing an extension before July 1st. Teams and players can talk whenever they want.

I would pay a lot to get Zadina upgraded for DeBrincat, if just getting that DeBrincat caphit at good level.

DeBrincat <> Zadina + BOS 1st 2024 + ... what else ?

True.

I also don't want the Wings to pay what would essentially be a sign and trade.
Why not?

You literally don't even know what it would cost yet you're already mad bro. Thats not a good strategy!

Just say you don't like Lindholm and would rather do something else. (That is ok.)

To Ducks: Raymond, #9 and #17
To Detroit: #2

Adam Fantilli

If Ducks go another way:

To BJs: #9 & #17
To Detroit: #3 pick

Adam Fantilli

This would be terrible. Raymond is already in the NHL and doing pretty good, plus 9 and 17 for a guy who is not likely to be anything better???

CBJ just did this with NJ. NJ technically signed him so they could get an 8th year, but no way NJ gives him that deal if CBJ isn't aware what his new deal is. May be against the rules but all teams do this type of stuff. NJ got a 3rd for a UFA they weren't bringing back or couldn't bring back so the deal was definitely done with what CBJ and Severson had in mind.

There's also now the new rule change, that you can't offer the 8th year, if the player wasn't on our team at last season trade deadline.

So that's why they negotiate it this way, his "former team" will make the contract, which is then traded to new team.

Now it's sign and trade, when with old rules trade and sign was possible (and extend for 8 years).

There is a rumour on the main board that it Carolina cannot extend Brett Pesce they are going to trade.

Detroit needs to be all over this, he is EXACTLY what we need on the right side for our 2nd pairing.
The problem is what roster player(s) would Detroit part with that Carolina would want? I could see offering 17 overall this year, but if the Canes are trying to win now, they won't just want picks.

I wonder what Philly's asking for Scott Laughton. Dude is a Swiss army man, and a Red Wing killer.
The problem there is he is a Red Wing killer. 10% of his career goals come against us. So he looks far better in games with us than he does in the rest of his games.

I would definitely argue that fantilli would be better than raymond for what they bring to the table. Fantilli will most likely have a better career barring injuries

Some people in here believe, that we are gonna take some full back to tank because of Bertuzzi and Hronek trades.

I don't think that at all. Yzerman wanted to get some extra assets and those players were not needed long-term and offers were just the best offers to sell.

He is gonna replace both from free agency, without losing any assets (only cap space) and also signing extra, imo.

This is the Yzerman asset-circle he has been repeating his all GM career.

1. At trade deadline - SELL and acquire assets and draft capital
2. Draft well
3. At summer - SIGN free UFAs, which will cost only money (and you can sell them at later years of the contract)
4. During the season, promote some drafted kids on the opening slots.
5. ---> back to 1.

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

There's no era to go down anymore. We will build up, and the kids will join from the fly.
100% agree.

I'd only add, he has shown a willingness to make trades within the draft.

Highly doubt 9 and 17 moves you to #3...

If it did, I would think red wings would get carlsson (even though I'd probably rather have Fanitilli but Carlsson is supposed to be amazing too) because in some swedish interview I think, Hakan said if Carlsson is available they are taking him no questions asked.

Also, not sure I would be overly upset about raymond traded for fantilli, but you better believe that fantilli is the franchise because raymond/9/17 is a hell of a lot to get rid of. (i'd probably try to see if we could trade a combination of berggren/aljo/wallinder/or other forwards to give more quantity and quality that possible superstar quality)

I do not disagree but was trying to keep Raymond.

Pretty good, versus a player who may rival Bedard. Small, non checking winger versus #1 6'2" center.

I make this trade all day every day.

Word out of NJD is Sharangovich is available. Might be something to poke around for.

I have been thinking more about Karlsson. What if we were able to get him for cheap (because he doesn't want to play in SJS anymore so their leverage is pretty low) and we were able to get them to do 50% retention. Then at the trade deadline, we trade him to whoever at another 50% retention (is that possible?) and a playoff contender (barring us being one at that time) would be getting karlsson for 25% of his current AAV.

That seems like we would be able to get a solid return at the trade deadline for him at that low of a cap hit.

I have no idea what they would want in return. But guys like Pesce don't come on the market all that often and with an awful UFA class Detroit should go hard after him.

Yeah lol cause I’m not giving a division rival Ras right as he’s about to break out. Especially for a midget in return.
yea I'll take a midget who scores goals all day the other 3 put up 56 points combined last year. DeBrincat put up 66 last year. (and that was a bad year for him) We just keep waiting on these guys who don't do shit for this team we're gonna miss the playoffs again.

Reports Detroit is going to be aggressive... So knowing Yzerman and Co... They will go status quo and draft and develop. I don't believe much when it comes to rumours, of the 5 or 6 guys we have been rumoured with we may get one and that's from blind luck reporting. If Yzerman is aggressive I have a feeling its a move no one sees coming.

If there is something / someone out there that is saying that he'll be busy, there has to be some other GMs, that he has been talking to, that are talking to the media.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Not always the case.... I think Yzerman sends out smoke screens at times to see if teams will bite. Lots of his moves have not much speculation behind them. I think the most obvious signing/trade he has made was Copp personally. Not to say it wont be a busy off season, I just dont always trust media.. they have a tendency to overplay obvious things. "Leafs looking to shake up make up of the team" "Every young team that missed the playoffs is looking to be aggresive" , etc.

Yeah, Press X to doubt. Not that Fantilli isn't fantastic... but the Wings don't have anything to realistically move up and have it be a good move for them. To get a team to give up Fantilli, you're overpaying like a mother.
