that's the thing...all these deals look better as years go by. same with this deal. if it happens. or, at least, that's the rationale that the front office will take. and i'm not gonna argue.

What? Redden's deal looked better as the years went on? Gomez's deal looked better as the years went on?

Callahan's contract won't look better in a few years if he gets a 6 year, $6 million per contract. He's already declining and not having the same effect on the ice as he was a few years ago (not talking about points there). I don't see how the contract would look better, unless you suddenly rounds back into the player he was in 2011-2012.

In the case of Callahan: 5 mil would be the absolute (!!!) max I'd pay. Come on really, he was asking for 7+ !!!!?!?!? , now he'll settle for 6-6.5 ... is he on crack or what?!

Can you explain to me how Marty Havlat or Chris Drury's deals looked better as the years went by?

You're not going to find a direct replacement for Callahan, and trying to use that to justify giving him a ****** contract is bogus logic.

Somone else said he was replaceable, i didn't bring it up. It's a bogus claim anyway. There aren't that many guys in the league that are as well-rounded as Callahan.

Ryan Callahan - 45GP, 11G, 25P. 0.56 PPG.
Brandon Dubinsky - 54GP, 12G, 37P. 0.69 PPG.

Dubinsky makes $4.2M per year. I remember people once said that Dubinsky's deal was terrible. Are Callahan's "intangibles" with the offset of durability issues worth an extra $2M to $3M per year?

Do you people really not understand the difference between a UFA contract signed today and an RFA contract that was signed 3 years ago?

Alright, who are you replacing him with?

a guy who can block shots, PK, and score about 35 points a season (if he even reaches that this year)?.. JT Miller.. for about 6M less. I honestly believe he can give us as much as Callahan TODAY gives us, the Callahan from 2-3 years ago?... Yeah I'll take that guy...

That's what dictates salaries, not the fantasy land that you live in.

The only delusional crazed person here is you. Talk about needing better comprehension skills. Dont get all butt hurt because everyone gave you legitimate reasons as to why he is not worth the money.

I never said the market doesnt have an affect on salaries. Teams make mistakes and then future free agents use that as leverage. That doesnt mean you HAVE TO pay them what they want.

What do you do for a living. I'm curious.

regardless if its "market price" and I'll bet you no CONTENDING team if he were to hit July would offer him 6M.. The Rangers just should not do it.

agree that jt miller is a better ryan callahan if he continues to develop. i like his game.

the market demand for cally imo, just didnt materialize. the fact that it didnt reinforces my belief that walking away from a 6/6 deal is the prudent thing to do.

move him as a rental. let him hoist a cup with a contender and resign wherever. even back here is ok for an acceptable number and term as long as we have a spot for him on the right side.

time to cut bait and move forward with dan girardi as the capt of this team.

the cally era should end in 48 hours.

All these deals?

Dubinsky at 4 million, RFA, isn't even comparable to Callahan at 6 or 6.5. It's comparable to the contract callahan is on NOW. Not his NEXT ONE.

What deals were you referring to besides Dubi?

Redden
Drury
Richards
Gomez

Do those look better today then they ddi when they were signed? Because this one's right in line with those.

That's what you have to cling to, you have to chalk up every contract that doesn't support your argument as a "mistake".

Do you honestly think he won't be able to get 6 per in free agency?

Cally and Dubinsky were both drafted 10 years ago and got their starts in the 2006-07 season.

JT Miller and Jesper Fast are the new Dubinsky and Callahan respectively. They both had their professional careers start last year and both made the Rangers out of training camp this year. They've been linemates in Hartford.

They should be glued at the hip and be up with the big club. It would save millions and let them invest in goal scorers.

I love Cally but for that much money they gotta see what they can get back for him.

It really depends on what the Rangers considered to be market value. If, in their mind, market value was Martin St. Louis, then they were doomed from the start.

Yes thats what i have to chalk it up to...because YOU brought up clarkson, clowe, and horton (which made you look dumber). The clarkson and clowe contracts are mistakes. If you cant see that then you clearly have no concept of the game of hockey.

Like Lundsanity said, no contending team is giving him that contract. Who was the team rumored willing to pay him? Ohhhh thats right...BUFFALO.

Yes or No?

is Rick Nash not a better player than Ryan Callahan? Is Zucarello not becoming a better offensive player for this system than Callahan?

Why oh why are we going to invest 6M into a 3rd line RW.. even tough Zucc will be there most likely even though he should be playing with better players..

You still dont ****ing get it? How old are you? It doesnt matter what he will get in free agency. It doesnt matter what other teams will pay him. Those teams cap situations are different. What matters is our cap situation. This is a salary cap world. He'll get whatever he gets in free agency but it wont be from a contending team like boston or pittsburgh. Those teams will not pay him $6 million. They just wont. A team like buffalo will though. They'll have all the room in the world, its a damn flea market up there right now...theyre selling everything.
