Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Jordan Greenway would be a nice add. Big, not too old, and adds elements that none of our forwards have. Heard Minny is trying to move him on 32 thought. Can’t imagine It would take too much given his production has been crap this year. Maybe a trade involving Olofsson and us getting a pick or prospect coming back. Fabre and Greenway for Olofsson and Portillo would make some sense.

Other than that, if we could somehow move out Joker and Comrie for upgrades at their respective positions we could really set ourselves up nicely going pushing for playoffs and going into next season.

Joker for Gavrikov (signed)

Comrie++ for Demko (we gave them Bloom already… maybe precursor trade lol)

Edit: damnit on Gavrikov

Wow we could possibly get a deal for chychrun. Armstrong is gonna have to make a move. Looks pretty bad when you make a guy sit for 2 weeks and you end up not moving him..

Chychrun watch is on now. At the moment I don’t see a lot of teams that would logically be suited to trade for him him due to cap space, recent deals, and assets to trade.

Teams that make sense: BUF, OTT

Could see It: WPG, STL, CBJ, DET

Buffalo makes the most sense by a wide margin in my opinion.

Anyone else getting Bogosian flashbacks though? Some checkered injury history and may have peaked production wise. Please convince me otherwise.

Jesus that's a cold thing Blake did. Quick's a month away from retirement and boy did Blake do him dirty. It'd be one thing if Blake traded him to a contender......but Quicks play sure as hell wasn't getting him to one.

I get it from a business standpoint.....but woof that's not a fun way to go out. This might burn bridges for a while between Quick and the Kings.

And its not like Korpisalo or Gavrikov have term either... both hit UFA after this season unless its a trade and sign. And Columbus sat Gavrikov for like 8 games and added Gavrikov just to get a retiring Jonathan Quick in return? Bizarre move nonetheless for both teams

We didn't upset the locker room. We didn't plan on making the playoffs this season. We are letting the kids play. We aren't trading futures away for instant gratification. Stillman may turn into a really good 3rd pair defenseman. Josh Bloom has a boring name.

He laid out a plan to ownership that they won’t do anything for years but draft and develop. It was approved because it means be cheap. Now he can’t change the plan even though it is going to trap us in the middle.

He won’t do anything of note in the off-season either. People need to come to terms with that now. The team is almost fully under contract. He’s going to save Terry another ton of millions next year and pay off his promise to him. It’s never been about winning or helping the team In the near future.

His refusal to pivot when things are both going well AND the issues are embarrassingly obvious…should make what’s happening pretty apparent.

They’ll run it back and miss the playoffs for the 13th year. Waste the window where their top players made nothing. And then start doing things after next season.

The worst part isn’t his inactivity. It’s not even his boldfaced lie about always looking for ways to improve the team. It’s that he can do nothing and fail for another year and he wont be fired. Because he’s serving the only plan he’s got.

Spot on.

It always makes me so angry when that idiot Paul Hamiltion goes on WGR after they sign someone to an extension saying this is an indication that the team will spend money. Does he not realize there is literally a minimum cap they have to hit, and they are at 60 million next year with pretty much a full roster.

So LA got a #1 Goalie and a top 4 Dman for a first round pick....
Going into this, I felt like Adams was unwilling to move Rosen, Savoie, Ostlund, Kulich, or a future 1st round pick.

As such, things are playing out roughly as I expected.

I forget who said it, but one of the Sabres pods I listened to mentioned that while other GMs are shopping at Whole Foods and Wegmans, Adams is shopping at Aldis.

Those types of deals are outside of the budget that Adams has given himself to shop with when it comes to the trade assets that he is willing to move at this point in time.

The Locked On Sabres pod was more of the "we have the greatest room to grow from internal development" lines from Adams. Just because fans and podcasters feel like the Sabres should be willing to move 1st round picks or prospects with that level of trade value, Adams does not.

16 players under contract for next season at $60M in cap hits is 7 players short of a full roster.

I doubt they make a big money move unless they feel the need to trade for an upgrade in net over Comrie/UPL.

Buffalo doesn't make sense as long as Adams is unwilling to part with past or future 1st round picks.

That's because Adams is scared. That said I wouldn't have moved our 1st for the Columbus deal... they are both pending ufa's

I do not believe he is scared. I believe he has a plan and he is sticking to it as the team is most likely ahead of the schedule for playoff competitiveness than he had in mind.

Plus, he is talking to Okposo a lot. It wouldn't shock me if they have a lot of belief in the guys they have in the room already.
