Cash strapped or not, they don't want to have a dead contract/cap hit on the books for multiple years. They're already carrying dead cap for Ekman-Larsson for four seasons after this one. Also if they were to retain on Chychrun too, then they'd be severely limiting their flexibility for the next two seasons, as a team can only have three retained salaries on the books at once.

Yup, he also said he needed a year to assess the team and traded for borderline NHLers to fill holes.

Adams has made trades so had Botts but when the chips are down will Adams have the balls to make the trades? Botts didn't.

I don't think we need to rush it but next year will be a big one.

The Sandin move is a great move for Washington who has/had a lot a of age on their defense group. They don't have a lot of depth in the cupboard either. I love the addition of Sandin. I'm a big proponent of his.

Why doesn't anyone want to pay for Chychrun? Price on Meier, Orlov, Jeannot, Tarasenko and even Sandin and McCabe is high and not much more than what the ask for Chychrun is.
