On playoff you need your goalie being hot at the right time

Stl won because binnington was hot at the right time, now they try to trade him away

Washington holtby was hot at the right time and now hes fighting for a back up role

Matt murray was hot at the right time with pittsburgh or fleury ( against washington)

Niemi, Quick, Ward, osgood, khabibulin, giguere just goalie getting hot at the right time
Well that and your top 3-4 actually showing up

seems knies will be on team once he finishes season
Kyle is hoping, but not a guarantee. Knies may return to the Gophers next season. Interesting he made it sound like Abruzzese may be harder to pull away from Harvard.

Sounds like if he had his way, he'd be adding both Knies and Abruzzese but doesn't know if he can pull either one away from college, especially Harvard where Abruzzese plays.

How I'd go next game (assuming Kase plays, and Gio/Blackwell lineup)

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kase-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev
Robertson-Kerfoot-Blackwell

If Kase is out, give Blackwell a shot on L2 and put Spezza in his spot.

Defense:
Rielly-Liljegren
Brodie-Holl
Giordano-Lyubushkin
I kind of want Gio with Liljegren imo. I want to see Liljegren get more involved on the offensive side of the game and I think Gio is a good partner to have to let him do that. Gonna be a headache for Keefe when we have all our D healthy. Interesting to see who sits out. I have a feeling Liljegren will be 1 of them but not quite sure about Holl, Sandin or Lybushkin.

As an advocate for wanting MAF, the price Minny paid still makes me unsure.

Goalies are voodoo. So unless it was a legitimate upgrade, spending assets on one could be a waste (like Rittich last year).

Gibson would have been it but the cost would have been very high. Gorgiev is the only other consideration, and he’s still unproven as a starter.

As for the lineup, theres too many posts to quote so I'll address that in this post.

Unfortunately theres not enough talent to give both Nylander and Tavares each a good line assuming the 1st line stays intact. With whats left, assuming full health, I'd go:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kase-Kerfoot-Nylander
Knies-Tavares-Blackwell
Mikeyev-Kampf-Engvall

I really don't like to see either of Mikheyev or Engvall as regulars in a playoff lineup, thats where someone like Motte would've been huge. Either of those two are better suited to a next man up spot in event of an injury.

Hopefully Knies is an NHL player, I'd love to see him next to Tavares, and Blackwell should compliment that line nicely.

That 2nd line is soft as hell but could exploit some weaker matchups. I wouldn't hold my breath though against these strong playoff teams in the east

You likely will see that for now. Muzzin and Sandin both hurt means Brodie is going to have to stay LD for now. Meaning your right D are Lyubushkin, Holl, Liljegren on Wednesday. Likely pairings would be
Rielly-Lyubushkin
Brodie-Holl
Giordano-Liljegren

Gibson, if available, should have been the target IMO.

I think to have success against Florida we’ll basically have to have a combination of the Carolina game where we can hang on for dear life and the structure they had vs Edmonton last year. Try to exploit them for a cheap goal here and there, converge on Ekblad if he isn’t 100% and just see how it goes.

For me; the Leafs sprung so many holes in the last month that there wasn’t any combination of deadline moves that could change things on paper, unless we got back to 90s style blockbuster trades and we’re swapping out 25% of the core. It is what it is and they’ll need to ramp up in a hurry and play serious like their playoff lives depended on it.
We're in agreement there. I don't think this team as constructed can hang with Tampa or Florida in the playoffs.

To beat Florida, you need equal or better goaltending, an ability to withstand physical punishment and dish it back, and equal scoring. Basically fight fire with fire. Tampa had all that and significantly better goaltending last playoffs.

As for Tampa, tbh I think this improved Florida team is the only one with a legitimate chance against them. Nobody's managed to knock them out in two years, I don't see that changing.

I don't mind it either way. It's just that Liljegren baby-sitting Rielly has been by far Rielly's best xG numbers.. ever?

He's fine with Lyubushkin too, so I'm not overly worried. Just my preference.

Are you telling me you're comfortable with that line going up against a Barkov or Huberdeau line, or a Stamkos or Kucherov line?

Still waiting on you to tell me where the Leafs edge out Florida btw
Defense. Yeah weegar and ekblad are great but then I take every single d man over Florida's. Please don't say chiarot is amazing now.

I'm fine with ekblad and weegar, but forsling is not equal to gio. Gio is decisively a better d-man. Also montour>holl, maybe but there is no way on gods green earth is he better than sandin who will be in for the playoffs. Also, gudas=lub. This isn't the same gudas that played on the flyers years ago.

I'm not bashing your opinion but you're being a bit extreme.

Ekblad>mo
weegar>brodie
Muzzin>>chiarot if muzz is healthy, just one > if not
Gio>forsling
Sandin>>gudas
Lub/lilj> montour
and Holl>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>w.e they have as the seventh dman.

Also IF jack ever got back in the groove I'd take our goaltending too. But that's a big if so I'm okay if you think that doesn't happen.

The Leafs board is a laughing stock now.

Every other fanbase comes here stirring up shit and the Leaf posters get infracted calling them out.

It's beyond ridiculous. It's been like this for awhile.

The only ridiculous thing is the delusional belief some people have in this team. I'm a Leafs fan just as much as you are.

Dubas’ master plan. Have goaltending be the main breaking point so he can return next season with the same core group of forwards (half joking)
