They have two spots that need to be upgraded now. Goalie + 2nd line LW.

Maybe they stand pat, but it'll be interesting to see if they can get someone for that left-wing.

Would be little disappointed if we're done. I like the Defense. Our forward group is still soft as butter.

Thought for sure Kerfoot was going to be flipped for a more Physical winger who's good on the cycle.

Maltsev is 6'3'' and Kaut is 6'2'', outside of Knies, we don't really have similar prospect in our system. They are already playing the AHL, while Knies hasn't. And I don't think Kerfoot with his 3.5M cap hit, is a valuable piece to this team.

Engvall is 6'5". So is Gauthier.

Anderson has more grit than either. Steeves probably does too.

I'm so confused. Dermott is significantly better in every aspect, is the same age, plays a similar role, and Lauzon returned more?

I felt the Dermott return was light, but fair. Lauzon in no way should have returned even a 3rd. What is Nashville doing.

Lauzon is cheaper and more physical, but Dermott is better.

TBH, they should have swapped returns. Would have made more sense.

Just crazy to me. Dermott is a bottom-pair NHLer on probably 15-20 teams. He's always crushed those minutes but can't seem to be able to handle more. A late 2nd/3rd is fine value because teams knew we couldn't keep him despite the value he brings in limited comp.

Lauzon though? His numbers are atrocious in pillow soft comp. Guys like that should be barely hanging onto their NHL jobs, not getting traded for top-45 picks. Ffs Nashville just waived a better defenseman in Myers.

Some interesting stuff from Mirtle.
Says even with all the demotions, they don't have enough room to activate Muzzin if he is indeed returning, so something has to give.
That roster is about 3.8 under the cap, and you need more then that to activate Muzzin, and even just demoting Kallgren after Campbell comes back frees up 750K, so one million is still there.

Potential Answers?
Another trade is coming to free up money. Says Leafs had a lot of conversations with Winnipeg on Copp and Vancouver with Motte. Not sure if those are done after today's trades, but they have been on the Leafs radar. He wonders if Dubas can now find a taker for Mrazek now that can go to the AHL.

Muzzin isn't returning but he thinks thats unlikely.

Somebody else is going on LTIR. He does say from what he hears is that things are positive on Kase, but next couple days will tell how long he's out. He said it's interesting Leafs didn't get Seattle to retain on Blackwell. If leafs needed that room, they could have got them to retain, but didn't so that indicates something else is coming.

He also says Leafs didn't promise Sateri NHL time, so does that mean Leafs are looking at a goalie?

One thing he didn't mention is these rosters are demoting Liljegren and I highly doubt thats going to happen, so thats even less room to activate Muzzin.

It think it's likely Muzzin stays out or we find relief putting someone else on LTIR as Mirtle said was possible. Muzzin would be sitting right now on most contenders, but Dubas is going to do right by him.

McBain to the coyotes is interesting
I was gonna bring this up (this isn't directed at you), but a 2nd for McBain is horrible value for the Yotes and an absolute boon for the Wild. If they knew they could get that for him I hope they didn't even attempt to sign him.

Any guy who's breakout season (*outside the NHL and maybe KHL/SHL*) happens after their D3 is normally not worth anything more than a late pick or free wallet. The odds he turns into anything more than a Vesey is basically unheard of besides Hyman. He's bigger, stronger, older, and plays top-minutes in league a typical top-9 NHLer has been crushing since their D1

kerfoot’s peak value will be on July 14th or whenever the new league year starts. after that he’s owed just 750K. He’s had a very good year so far. Heck, even his bonus isn’t that big, so the draft could be doable as well.

You keep Kerfoot for the playoffs and then move him then.

Barring an absolute need to move his cap hit for a deal, but I think we see minor tinkering tomorrow. Nothing we need to use his cap hit for, especially with Mrazek waived.

These are the types of things people need to look for. It’s important.

Branden Hagel - Steven Stamkos - Nikita Kucherov
Ondrej Palat - Brayden Point- Anthony Cirelli
Alex Killorn - Ross Colton - Nick Paul
Corey Perry - Pierre Bellamare - Pat Maroon

Thats a heavy heavy lineup

I think we are getting a bit off topic. The original discussion was who we can target as 2LW. I like Crouse, Zacha and Linbolm, but if their prices are too high, I'd would try Maltsev and Kaut. We tried Robertson on 2LW and that experiment seems to have failed. I think the Tavares - Nylander line needs a LW with some size, and I think these two are players that I'd take the risk on trying out and I don't think their cost will be too high.

Kerfoot is a high cost. A very high cost.

We tried Robertson there for a very short period of time and it is not really his fault. The same reason he failed is the reason why Crouse, Zacha, Lindblom, etc. will all fail too; Tavares and especially Nylander are not playing well. The third guy has nothing to do with their failure, and in many cases, Kerfoot/Kase/Robertson have actually been able to do a little bit on their own or with Tavares even while Nylander does nothing.

Figured Appleton would have returned more than a 4th.

Thought so too, but he is fairly vanilla. He has some size, but he is pretty much just a mediocre 4th liner who is 26 years old.

I am confused as to how Winnipeg is able to get him back though.

Seattle is just dumping everyone it seems, and it seems like they are a prime candidate for us to dump some contracts on them:

RD Connor Carrick

:seattle
RD Joey Duszak
RD Brennan Menell
LD Teemu Kivihalme

Okay maybe it's Kerfoot for Maltsev + Kaut + Barron ++ or something. I view Kerfoot as expandable because I don't see where he fits into the lineup. I think for us to do well in the playoffs, the 2nd line needs to be better. The skill is there, I mean Tavares and Nylander are good players, but I think the chemistry is off. My solution is to try out/get a new 2LW. What do you suggest we do?

Did Phillipe Myers clear waivers today from Nashville?

Always wanted to see what that kid could do, but I guess we lack the cap for a reclamation project at his salary.

Still though, would rather have him than Holl. Higher ceiling. :(
