Batherson for McCann
It's a pretty reasonable thought, in terms of making a hockey trade to shake things up.

But is McCann going to waive his trade protection to come to Ottawa? I'm doubtful. Seattle has the appeal of being a no-state-tax market and that is a strong lure. We can't even offer him the carrot of coming to play on a Cup contender.

I suspect this is a problem the Senators are going to run into a lot when trying to change up the mix.

What about Batherson for Rackell?

He only has an 8 team no-trade list. Similar cap hit. He has term. He is also a right handed forward, which is important since Batherson is one of our only righties.

I don't know the dynamics of why NHL players choose to train together, but if there is a connection between Batherson and Crosby beyond it being convenient for them to work together, maybe bringing in Batherson would be seen as a positive.

Rakell is really good defensively too. I'd consider a Bath-Rackell swap.

I'd do it, I don't know if Pitt would. I think Dubas has abandoned that charade of thinking they can "win" while Crosby is still there. They're probably looking for players younger than Batherson.

To Nashville: Drake Batherson
To Ottawa: Oliver Bjorkstrand + Colton Sissons
To Seattle: 2026 1st (from NAS via VGK) + Anton Forsberg

Ottawa gets a player who can replace much of Batherson's production and a warm body for the bottom 6 (who can skate and kill penalties).

Nashville gets a young-ish playmaking winger they can pair with either Stamkos or Forsberg, and give up the latest of their 3 upcoming 1st rounders (so it's not like they're selling the farm).

Seattle gets a nice pick and cap space.

Forsberg is included for cap reasons.

Giroux has a NMC and could pick his spot, and with that, you're not getting much if any value back.
Considering his family situation, it'd probably be east coast or nothing: so FLA or TB.

You'd get maybe a 4th round pick, so what's the point.
The only way we could benefit really is some kind of 3 way trade, send him to Florida or Tampa, and we get someone back from somewhere else with the ~6 million we now have.

Won’t happen though.
