honestly just to see the battle of ontario with a tkachuk on each side would be so amazing. obviously from a cap perspective having 4 forwards around 10 mill wouldn't be realistic...
Yes sire, they would be moving some of our other suckers to the other direction. Ether Nylander, Marner or Tavares for life. Meaning after that, none of the selected players wouldn't be coming back to toronto. never again.

I dont think its terrible advice at all. Makes a lot of sense if he think he's gonna have to wait a year or two to be getting top 4 LHD mins.

Well, the alternative is the Leafs put him in a corner and he spends a year developing in the SHL. He's not Adam Fox here, the only way he can dictate his career path is by the quality of his play on a contract that looks like Liljegren's.

If the Leafs are going to go down the road with cheap goalies, which it looks like they are, then I hope they go with the younger guys with upside. Go with a Blackwood/Georigiev/Husso. Hope one of them finally breaks out. Also wonder what the cost would be to get Ilya Samsonov or Vitek Vanchek from Washington?

Cogs makes a lot of sense as a bottom of the line up vet who has now actually won. Can’t see this front office being interested in a guy like domi for obvious reasons.

Well, they were interested in Galchenyuk, and Domi is kind of a lot like him, so it appears they're not always attracted to what you think they'd be.

"On the decline" doesn't change that they just lost their #2D for nothing, due only to cap concerns.

You don't congratulate a team for forcing itself to lose one of its best players for nothing.

You’re missing the point. It’s lose McDonagh now (gained 7m space) or lose McDonagh in a year + 1st or a prospect to move the contract.

TB nearly won 3 cups in a row, these things happen to championship teams in a flat cap. There’s absolutely no comparing these two management groups.

I'm guessing Husso is their #1 target. Unfortunately there will be a bidding war for him so unless he wants to come here to win, I can't see Leafs being the highest bidder.

I'm just saying I can understand his point of view. If he was on Arizona he's probably looking at a Marcus Pettersson extension right now.

Yeah, and if he was Cale Makar he'd be making close to $10 million in AAV and we'd have a Stanley Cup.

The problem I have with Sandin making these kind of waves is his career start has looked a lot like Derrmott's. If he's not getting the money or ice time he wants just yet it's because he's a very green player who needs to develop.

Has anyone said or even inferred this?

Not that I have seen, but if it correct they have to convince him to stay and he still wants to move there has to be some reason. From the outside it would be a no-brainer, just do the Liljegren thing and we're done. If he's unwilling there has to be something that has him thinking it isn't a good idea.

If someone said this isn't a cohesive team I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

I think they mights. Cause him (domi) would sell a lot of jerseys and get that offensive marketing going on again. Hard. His father still has some buttons and connections in toronto as well. They running things. If a domi would sign that type of a simmonds deal, only like 2 million per one year, dubas etc would jump on that there like a shotgun out of the bushes. We might even get a reaves, rinaldo, wilson, tom, or like kassian to defend on our very own players also for the next one. But we are going to have to see to that.

Yzerman had a good run there.

Friedman completely stole my giroux idea and rationalization.

Leadership. Home in ottawa. Wants to win. Leafs

My implication is that Sandin is a similar player to Marcus Pettersson coming off his ELC and could reasonably expect a similar contract to Pettersson's extended deal (3.5Mx6).

Marcus Pettersson is also a 6'3" defensive defenseman who plays a very different role than Sandin, so I'm not sure why they would be compared to one another aside from bad point totals and nationality.

I used Pettersson because he got a pretty big deal for someone who put up mediocre results during his ELC (2.3 defensive GAR in his first 3 seasons). The first comparison I used is Girard which might be a more apt comparison. Similar sized players who put up similar results on their ELC but Girard was used in the top 4 and paid as a top 4 defender.

I’ve been thinking for a while now that one of Sandin or Muzzin won’t be here opening night.

That seems like a leap imo. Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t. Either way, I’m pretty sure though Sandin is more concerned about his own career trajectory and probably playing time

This is probably the time to cut bait on Muzzin. He was good in the playoffs, but is aging and his injury history is looking bleak. Muzzin is leaving eventually the only question is this off-season or next? Which is why I would not be fond to move Sandin.

But do you see the disconnect here?

Sandin comes in Girard size and puts up the numbers of a defensive defenseman. So in essence we would be paying him a big ticket to not defend like a 6'3" reliable stay at home guy and also not have offensive production (and mobility) of a Sam Girard.

I’ve been thinking for a while now that one of Sandin or Muzzin won’t be here opening night.

Based on age, Muzzin should be gone. Based on play style, it's a coin flip.

This is the reason why I've said all along that the Sandin, Duzsak, Niemela, Hollowell, Kokkonen, Koster, Loponen, Rindell, Fusco is majorly flawed. It's like we've invested a huge portion of the development pipeline to find one Torey Krug while completely ignoring Brandon Carlo.

What exactly did Pettersson do to earn his contract?
Just curious, his stats aren't great and he hit less than Sandin when he got the deal.

I doubt Pettersson's deal has anything to do with it.

I always thought he was just someone else's Justin Holl. Big wing span, defensive defender...

I don't get this Sandin headache. If he's going to Kotkaniemi us, I'm going to be pissed. But he should sign here similar to Lily and the Leafs should give him playing time.
