Agreed but McDonagh is a declining asset. Better to cut bait sooner than later. They will promote Sergachev to soften the blow. Would you move Muzzin if you could ?? Love the guy but I'd move him if I could and had a capable replacement.

It's the right move because he's not going to be good for 4 more years. But that's only because of his contract, and they just lost their #2D for nothing.

Losing Muzzin would hurt us just as bad as losing McD hurts them. Thankfully we have Muzz for a lower caphit, half the term (ending before his serious decline years), and for only 20% of the actual real money that Tampa owed McD, which would get us an actual trade return.

Last Year:

Kerfoot: EV 13gl/47pt pace -- PP 0:06, 0gl/1pt pace
Killorn: EV 19gl/45pt pace -- PP 3:12, 6gl/14pt pace
Burakovsky: EV 18gl/51pt pace -- PP 2:01, 4gl/11pt pace

A point pace comparison between a guy like Kerfoot and a guy like Killorn is about as useful as one between a Dan Cleary and a Mikhail Grabovski. You’re going to fail to capture the strengths and weaknesses of both players.

Burakovsky is just a way better player than Kerfoot.

If Leafs are trading Sandin I hope they can get a center of the same age. I would like to bump Kampf down to 4th and have a 3rd line center with potential for top 6. Leafs need a third line that when Tavaeres and Nylander don’t have it going we can scale their ice time back and give them a bigger load. Ride whatever line is hotter. Get some internal competition for ice time.

Mirtle also just released an article
Some points
-the Leafs first rounder is not in play for a roster player. They will consider trades for more picks but not for roster players. They will move back if a player they want is sliding.
-Leafs will want to take a look at Kuemper, Fleury, Husso. This was just a guess but it might be Husso.
-he says it looks like Leafs were close on a deal to send Mrazek to Chicago last year so that maybe gets revisited.
-they remain interested in Lyb but thinks he'll be priced out.

Gio may only have one good year, and it's possible Sandin could surpass him at any point this season too.

Not sure why the Leafs would have the appetite to trade him......

Not saying Leafs want to trade Sandin. From listening to Friedman I am guessing the Leafs are trying to sell that to Sandin but Sandin is not convinced yet. Also sounds like Sandin wants to play his strong side.

Has nothing to do with the Leafs wanting to trade him, he doesnt want to sign.

Leafs are trying to convince him he's not blocked, and Sandin isnt buying it per Friedman.

Sandin sure isn't making a lot of fans with what CJ is reporting. This is a bit irritating to me. Hopefully he swallows his pride though and signs a team contract

If that's his actual position, he's getting terrible advice.

But I still feel this is a more of a contract negotiation song and dance.

If I was him I'd do the same. He saw what happened to Dermott who spent the first 7 years of his career stuck behind Rielly/Gardiner/Muzzin. Dermott's made 4.6M through 7 seasons. Sandin is probably looking at Girard who is making 5M/year on his 2nd contract and thinking he can get that if he was on a team that played him on the 2nd pair.

If the kid feels he's blocked by a 39 year old on a league minimum deal, I don't love his mental makeup.

He also has no leverage, so if I'm the Leafs, I let him play the year in Europe and when the wheels fall off Gio, I revisit a Sandin re-up as opposed to letting his situation dictate a trade I'm not ready to make.

Or if there's a great deal to be had, you consider it.

Kid can't skate or stay healthy. That's not the Leafs fault.

I dont think its terrible advice at all. Makes a lot of sense if he think he's gonna have to wait a year or two to be getting top 4 LHD mins.

Contract negotiations are business, and can sometimes appear thorny. I doubt Sandin or his people, nor Dubas and co. are emotional about it, and neither should fans be. It's business.

Max Domi just seems like lazy speculation that people make up on these boards.
Can’t see this management team bringing in a questionable attitude. Not to mention there’s been whispers he’s just as much of a dickhead as his old man was in the locker room.

Again, that speaks to terrible advice when you want to move on and your competition is someone is someone who is basically on a league minimum deal and will be 39 by opening day.

He needs to elevate his play.

Yeah, I've speculated Max Domi for a couple of years now just as a Toronto guy with Leaf roots and a bit of a nomadic career. I also wonder if Andrew Cogliano would slide in as the new Spezza.
Cogs makes a lot of sense as a bottom of the line up vet who has now actually won. Can’t see this front office being interested in a guy like domi for obvious reasons.
