wonder if Leafs could pull off something around Nylander for Tkachuk
Nylander, Holl, and Prospect for Tkachuk and Vladar
If they haven’t done so, the Leafs need to ask Nylander if he wants to stay and be part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem, i.e., be committed to playing playoff hockey. They need to make it clear that his cap space is move valuable than he is and his training camp is going to be miserable, if he wants to stay.
Otherwise, they trade him, but I can’t see them getting Keith or Chantal for him, let alone one of the boys.

Max Domi just seems like lazy speculation that people make up on these boards.
Imagine his jersey selling millions again sire  That there would blow tie's mind and ties.

Also think of JT Miller centering for us next season... that would be so... hard. The man is one of the best players in the league nowadays. Has been for a while. Does errrthing for the (team). Some have speculated that the slow tavares our captain would then move to the wing. That would be so weird like david lynch to see. He would still bank 40 goals no question, but him not taking faceoffs so much... would totally blow our minds and ties.

That would go totally crazy on all of our fan bases. Tkachuk would totally kill-in-toronto. His attitude is a massive carnage. His brother is even a better player, who hits 350 times per season. Tkachuk himself on the other side, scores-a-lot records and still rumbles under pressure. That there is some real dirt we would like to get our nails on. Dirty.

Great insider article. Quick summary:

-Curtis Sanford is going to be hired by the Leafs for the new goaltender coach position. He was poached from the Canucks. It's not sure if he's part of multiple hires for their revamped goaltending department but he's expected to be one. Jon Elkin is also staying.

-Mentions Mrazek and Holl as the pieces trades to gain cap space. (duh)

-Still a remote chance Leafs and Campbell settle on a new contract. It will depend on what he can get on the market. Same for Blackwell and Lyubushkin but they are more likely to return.

-Leafs want to keep Kase and Engvall but would rather avoid arbitration. Talks are ongoing before July 11th. If contract talk fail, they have a tough call on qualifying either player.

-Sandin doesn't have arbitration rights but has an uncertain future with the team. His play time was blocked by veterans, and reportedly doesn't want to sign a team friendly contract like Liljegren did. So things are complicated there. (He's also subject to an offer sheet)

-Goaltending is the #1 priority but the Leafs will also concentrate on forward depth. Likely a revamped bottom 6 with departures to Mikheyev, Spezza, and maybe Blackwell, and uncertainty with Kase and Engvall.

-Husso, Kuemper and Fleury should be targets if Campbell talks fail. He mentions Husso might come in cheaper than Campbell and Kuemper.

-Cheap under-the-radar forwards will be targetted. Zach Aston-Reece, Johan Larsson and Nic Deslauriers noted names.

-Promotions will probably be a big part of the new lineup next season. A good amount of spots up for grabs.
I’m not sure how long Sanford has been there but they have done a really good job at developing goalies. So this looks to be a good hire if he’s been part of the development of Canuck goalies.

Domi brings the right attitude that the Leafs need on the ice. I think if they can get him at a decent deal they should sign him. We have enough players who when they’re off we just don’t notice them all game, they’re invisible. You will notice Domi all game even when he’s off. We need those guys in the bottom 6.

honestly just to see the battle of ontario with a tkachuk on each side would be so amazing. obviously from a cap perspective having 4 forwards around 10 mill wouldn't be realistic...

I still think it's funny last year a lot of us were pumped about McCann for a top 6-9 spot to give us some extra offense and cheesed when we lost him in expansion and we were told "Where are you gonna find another Holl at 2M?" - commonly believed by all insiders he's being shopped and no one is saying he's a top 4 D anymore.
I mean, where would we have found a 2M top 4 D last year? Lilj and Sandin weren't solidified in the lineup as NHLers, and since then, proven they should be. Holl is now disposable. I think that's all there is to it.

People forget that by keeping McCann, there would have been a real salary cap implication to it that would have affected the D.

Those arguments about keeping McCann were always irrational. He'd be gone now anyway as a UFA.

Outside of a some Dubasites on here and Dubas himself, was anyone else actually convinced he was a real top 4D?

Muzzin just propped him for a season, that's all I saw.

I think big dmen take time to develop and he was showing of the tools , and he won a championship with the Marlies? (i never watched) but that would have been a factor imo too

For sure he was propped up, to be good enough to be used in a top 4D. Muzzin was that good. Maybe he still is... we shall see, and hope that he is injury free this year. Even a guy made to look good by his partner, is still useful enough in that position, and the question of, how would we replace that for the same, or less is still relevant. In some ways, Holl's better skating than Muzzin's, helped the pair out at time. Now, Holl is disposable for sure.

You aren't developing at 29 anymore, you are what you are.

This off season Muzzin controls his destination and it might be trade to LA as only option with no real assets coming back. Next summer there is 10 teams that he can be traded to, so this isn't equal situation with McDonagh. Though in case of Muzzin choosing his destination it might be the case that we get nothing back. Is Muzzin more valuable next season than that nothing and few UFA players? Maybe, maybe not.

I would be more philosophical about Muzzin as a should he stay or go if we had a decently priced goalie.

He is not disposable unless Sandin can play the RS or you sign another RHD.

But like most others criticizing 'Dubasites;, you didn't answer the question.

I was actually looking at the UFA list to see what could have been done.

Of the list below, Hakanpaa, Schenn or Cole likely work.

We struck out on Hakanpaa in UFA.

Schenn had a great year in Vancouver.

Who knows if we showed interest in Cole who can play LD/RD

Starting to think Sandin will definitely be traded this summer.

That should be fun

IF he thinks he’s worth more than he is then I’d be fine exploring who we could get for 2LW, with some term, for a package involving him

I think Muzzin to Edm would make a lot of sense for both sides
I think Yamamoto , Poolparty, Mcleod, would all be solid targets for leafs

Start your replacement list at $1 million if you keep McCann because he was $1 million more than Holl.

Keep in mind that salary cap thing? It's inconvenient, I understand that.
