Strome is always so tempting but are his respectable numbers a product of Kane and Debrincat and the pp and top 6 ice time or does he have a fit? Tierney and Steel as well although the assumption Steel will suddenly produce any more with a change of teams may not be reality. Are Strome or Steel playoff style guys at all?

Strome actually produced just as well with the likes of Toews, Hagel, and Dach as he did with Kane and Debrincat.

Interestingly, if you want to see someone whose numbers dropped significantly when apart from Kane (and Strome).....it's Debrincat.

He's only 25 years old?
Seems to have been around forever.
Anybody ever see Petan and Malgin at the same time?

Yeah I believe he's at least two years younger than Marchment. Still time for him to find his niche in the NHL. Not sure thats with the Leafs. But interesting his name has been popping up so much the last couple days.

Really seems like Dubas didn't want Campbell back.

We don't really know what goes on behind the scene but must have been something, going back to last year when they wanted him on the cheap, and then bringing in a backup for a higher price. Wonder what would have gone on with a healthy Mrazek?

My theory on it is they wanted Jack back but saw him as an interchangeable plug and play piece who would accept an easy breezy hometowner. But I can see the tension where this market inflates guys egos and dollar asks because moderate success in this city comes with outsized exposure and celebrity status in the sport. And something in the relationship may have strained.

Same exact thing seems to be happening with Rasmus Sandin. He’s a no leverage ELC defenseman who would be a slam dunk re-sign in any market. But in the Toronto spotlight it’s like we’re the Nordiques trying to woo young Lindros.

People should write off Kampf. He is defensively sound and can chip in offensively. He is above average on draws and is feisty on the boards with a net presence. He can slot in a newly assembled 3rd line as a checking line.

If somehow they can bring back Kase or someone else with more grit and defensive awareness. A checking line of Engvall-Kampf- UFA/trade/minors player (Anderson, Holmberg) is all that is needed unless you can improve on Kampf in a big way that would slide him to the 4th C spot.

The Leafs do have options to fix the grit and speed on the 3rd-4th lines that was lacking last season. Both internally and in trades/FA.

Personally I would like to see a top 6 winger added, Either to compliment Tavares and Nylander or moving Bunting off the top line. Only way I see this happening is trading Muzzin. Trading Kerfoot and Holl allows you to get 2 pieces on the cheap to fill spots on 3rd and 4th line.

UFA/Trade - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf/UFA/Trade - UFA/Trade/Internal Minors
UFA/Trade/Internal Minors - UFA/Trade/Kampf - UFA/Trade/Internal Minors

Reilly - Lybushkin (Resigned)
Sandin-Brodie
Giordano - Lilly

Murray
UFA/Kallgren
Woll

If Kerfoots signing bonus hasn’t been paid out yet, is there any chance the remainder of the Ottawa deal happens tomorrow. Kind of like how the Leafs did before.

My latest armchair GM:

Trades:
Kerfoot for Stolarz
Sandin for Hayton
Holl for Bastian
Claim Balcers off Waivers

Signings
Marchment 4Mx4
Lyubushkin 1.5Mx3
Aston-Reese 1.5Mx2
Malgin 0.85Mx1

Screen Shot 2022-07-12 at 3.51.16 PM.png

Despite Lyubushkin being listed as 1st pair here I would imagine he would play the 6th highest minutes on the back end. Rielly is mostly sheltered with Muzzin-Brodie taking top matchups, Gio-Lily taking 2nd matchups. Attempting to have 3 scoring lines. Kampf line remains a shutdown line. Nylander/Tavares carry their own lines. Murray's projected WAR brings down the overall point totals, Dubas is obviously hoping he's not a -0.4 WAR goalie this year.

Wow, Malgin is all we are missing to run the gauntlet next season

.......... said no one ever.

Exciting times when Malgin is rumored to be on the way!!!

I understand being frustrating and whatever but teams, regardless of success or not, make these types of signings year in and year out. You're not new to this.

The Leafs wouldn't make this a signing as the catalyst of playoff success, just merely as a player with relatively decent upside. Even if you think he's the worst player in the league, the Leafs bringing in players to compete and see how they do is a good thing. What if he comes in and puts up 15 goals? Maybe even better? What if he sucks as you predict? Is it really something to be frustrated by? There is no risk.

You've been here for awhile, it's probably time to understand this.

No offense and you are usually calm, but I think you're letting your anger of the Murray deal affect logical thinking. Malgin type signings happen with every team. No risk some reward. It's hardly something to be upset about.

I don't see anyone writing off Kampf. Fans know his importance.

Dubas can redeem himself with what he does rest of the off season. So far I count 1 good move the Mrazek trade, one terrible move.

It would appear my sarcasm has gone over someone's head, complete with condescending rebuke.

I will now sit quietly and cheer.

Thanks,
