Keumper to Washington is interesting because the Caps don't have a lot of cap space.

If he goes that that could open the door to Samsonov being available. A trade around him and Holl might make sense since Washington only has 5 defensemen under contract and Holl provides solid value in a bottom pairing role where he'd play.

Not sure what they’ll do with Samsonov. They just got an ok return on Vanecek but with Kuemper they probably just need a veteran backup.

That's true .. still think Samsonov might be available though. Kuemper is brought in as their #1G, I can see Samsonov asking for a trade.
Think scenarios like this are why Dubas is waiting for free agency to hit before making any decisions on say a guy like Matt Murray. Kuemper and Campbell going places might free up other options. Or teams with strong duos like Varlamov & Sorokin...might have one (Varlamov) become available if NYI spends big money on a forward or Defenseman. Think Dubas is sitting tight to see what his trade options will be

Thoughts on Dylan Strome? I think the Leafs should do what ever they have to, to get this guy signed. He's still only 25, comes from Mississauga and he may be willing to sign on with the Leafs to boost his future. He only needs to look at Bunting.

Sign him and put him with Tavares and Marner. Re-unite Nylander with Matthews and Bunting. Get both lines clicking. Tavares will definitely score 40 again playing with Marner and Strome who are both pass first players.

Thoughts?

Strome is nothing like Bunting.

How much of an upgrade is Murray at 3.x compared to Mrazek at a near identical cap hit that the leafs just paid to move?

Seems more likely it just buys Dubas time because it willl take a few months to a year for fans to realize Murray is also bad.

Also running out of picks and prospects to fix these mistakes..

You'd think any other GM would be on the hotseat but some people seem to think Dubas is doing a great job.
You're right Dubas is going a great job.

On a 1 year prove it deal, I think both sides could benefit from it.

He's not going to get Power Play 1 time, but having some 3rd line depth and 2nd power play unit time would be okay. Score 15-18 goals and have decent exposure.

No thanks.

Just look at how Chicago fans talk about him. I've watched him and have followed him a bit here and there. Hes like your perfect definition of an empty calories player. Can only play C, not nearly as good enough to be a 1C, not strong enough defensively to be a bottom C. Was only ever productive in Chicago while riding between Kane and Cat. No hustle or urgency to his game.

I don't think that's true but there have been some that have been so wrong for so long that they may as well just keep doubling down until he's gone and then begin the cycle again with the new leader.

I want nothing to with Strome. A soft player is not what we need. You are better off going towards Kubalik

Imo good with going this route, but the second goalie in the tandem has to be more established than Comrie imo.

Holtby and Comrie are the only attractive UFA options. Halak might be as well, but he seems more like a 20-25 game backup to a Shestyerkin at this point. The rest look like cheap backups or filler for teams like ARI, CHI, BUF, etc.

From this alone (only this season, and only having to do with actual vs. expected GA):
- Murray is looking pretty good, but injuries remain a concern and he wasn't that good the two years prior.

- Campbell is not looking like a guy who should be commanding the kind of money he wants, considering it pretty much has only been one month of him proving he should be worth anywhere close to it.

- Gibson too just does not seem like the kind of guy you sink a ton of assets and money into right now unless you have a ton of confidence in him bouncing back or don't care about the risk (like a Washington or Edmonton).

- Kuemper also has a ton of long-term risk, but the short-term reward is definitely enticing.

- Reimer and Kahkonen look pretty nice out of San Jose. Kahkonen has more control and is much younger than Reimer, but Kahkonen has less of a track record too. I don't blame Reimer if he doesn't want to come back here.

- Stolarz would be solid, but he is unproven, doesn't have control, and you need to give up assets. If you were interested in that, it seems like he would be more of a plan B if you missed out on Comrie for no assets.

- Talbot doesn't seem to make sense considering the cap hit and asset cost. There is also a reason why Minnesota gave up major assets to bring in Fleury for their Cup run, and brought him back on a 3.5 mill deal despite being in cap hell right now.

- Varlamov or Quick would be solid as one-year stop gaps if they come at a reasonable cost, but their high cap hits are a bit of an obstacle (especially if we also want a guy like Murray) and Quick particularly was not good for 3 years prior to this one and hasn't had a ton of playoff success since LA's prime days.

- Samsonov or Blackwood are fine if you want to bet on pedigree. Washington does not need to worry about cap too much, but if they are going after a guy who could be making 6 mill long term like a Kuemper, they probably don't want to also be paying Samsonov what is likely going to be a number in the 2.5-3 mill range as well just to be a backup. They may prefer a Halak, Jones, or Greiss for less money. Blackwood may not be happy about similarly-aged competition entering the mix, but Jersey may decide to make a trade decision at a later date since Bernier is likely starting the season injured.

Here’s my thing. I really don’t give a f*** what the Leafs do this off-season. Do whatever the f*** you want.

Just find success in the playoffs, for the love of god.
Couldn't agree more.

Just find a way to get Matt Murray to the playoffs where he goes beast mode :sarcasm:

My aims are much lower than winning a playoff round or Stanley Cup.

I'm just hoping we keep and draft our 1st Round Draft pick at some point in my life now.....

Yes, I am severely damaged at this point.

Thankfully my beloved Steelers will be having a season for the ages this upcoming season to ease my pain...... FML <facepalm>

Yep, going to be a long year and I'll never get use to the new stadium name.

I wonder if there's any trades that have ever been nixed because the players medical has been too good.

For example the Leafs are willing to take Murray at full price and get a massive haul but only if they can LTIR him for the rest of his deal. But they look at his medicals and are concerned he might be healthy enough to play at some point so they can't risk it.

Obviously that's not what's happening here. I'm just curious if that type of thing has ever happened.

Agents and GMs are smart enough to keep things private and talk in general terms. At least most of them are.

Making bad decisions, hopefully.
 I will

Ill take a delayed Bday with a stanley cup :P Stack them gifts.
