Hmmm.....so they in essence are now negotiating against a possible $5.4 million savings because the Sens couldn't buy him out until next season?

Oh boy, does that ever make the sweetener required even so much bigger!
He's not healthy enough to be eligible for a buyout

For what it’s worth, at the end of February last year Murray had a better save percentage than Campbell did on an Ottawa team that was an absolute train wreck defensively. Half the games but still .920 through like 18 games. The last game of the season against Arizona ranked his save percentage from .915
He had a .920 and then in the final two games of the season he let in 13 goals on 53 shots which tanked him to a .906.

My concern is not about his ability though but durability of course.

Wonder if the Leafs consider Erik Branstrom. Then they use Sandin to upgrade while having him as 7th Dman? Branstrom had a lot of promise but has not lived up to it yet.

How much of this Murray rumors could be just Toronto floating BS to pressure Campbell/ Keumper / other UFA into signing a lower cap hit? The more that teams disappear off the market for a starter the less leverage Campbell / UFA's have in negotiations. Eventually you get down to one team and then you got either their lowball offer or Europe to play in next season... Say everyone is off the board for a starter Goalie, only Edmonton remains, you got Campbell and Keumper both left to sign a NHL contract, you as a player have next to zero leverage.

One last thing, Murray played for Keefe and Dubas in the Sault... so there is that...

I don't see it. I think the Leafs prefer Sandin to Brannstrom, and Brannstrom is not exactly progressing all that well right now.

I'm sorry but this whole murray thing to be our goalie is so f***ing dumb. Like these guys would have to give us norris for it to make some sense. Like formenton et al are NOT worth it to have a goalie like matt murray backstop this team. He's worse than jack and freddy. And obiously the sens wouldn't give us josh norris. THis makes absolutely no sense.
I agree completely.
If we are helping Ottawa out here, it’s Josh Norris or nothing.
They can’t buyout Murray. They will have a very hard time finding another suitor.
Screw them.
If this all falls apart, we don’t get Murray…… which is probably a good thing. Regardless of his salary.
Norris or nothing.

Both Jets and Calgary could be undergoing rebuilds of some sort... Keeping your 32 year old, and 29 year old goalie, who could return decent assets, at the start of a rebuild, doesn't make sense. Both Jets and Calgary have had rumours of players wanting out, and if these players are moved, you'd have to think they would rebuild. If they rebuild, it's not unrealistic. If they don't, it is.
In what world would make you think they are rebuilding with the coaches and players they have or intend to keep?

I've been too busy enjoying my summer to be posting much, but I'll say this on the potential Murray trade.

Goalies don't make sense.

Colorado won a cup and their goalies didn't have great numbers during that run, and they had to rely on the back up in the western conference finals.

The reality is, it doesn't matter who is in net for the Leafs, they have to find a way to get the job done. They need to figure out a way to keep the PP hot in the playoffs because this is the 2nd straight year that cost them from moving on.

TLDR, it doesn't matter who is in net anymore, just get this shit done.

I think we might be getting Zub.

That would be sick.

I really do not see why we would be interested in rentals.

It should be young, controllable assets. If they can contribute right away, then all the better, but I am not overly sold on their prospects and expendable young players (like Formenton, Pinto, etc.).

We've got 11.8 Mill

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
X - X - X
X - Kampf - Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Giordano - Liljegren
Muzzin - Holl

- Engvall to 1.75 (Mikheyev deal), Sandin to a try me contract ala Dermott (1 mill)

that would leaves us with around 9.

We should allocate around 6 mill for goaltending (Campbell/Kuemper + Halak/Jones) . Then 3 mill for forwards (3 of Sanford/Aube-Kubel/Lazar/Raffl/Lemieux/Acciari/Joshua)

I assume it's not solely because if they wanted leverage they wouldn't be using matt Murray for it

I'm with you on this.

I'd like to look at Formenton, Brannstrom, Pinto, Jarventie and Thomson.

This amount of smoke would be hard to fake at this point.

Can you elaborate on Zub? Not really familiar with his game. Also isn't Ottawa wanting to add RH defenseman, and not trade them away?

Curious, if we some how attain Murray at 50% discounted, through a third team or not, I'm assuming that will be the majority of the sweetner? Maybe a mid pick or two after that?

Kinda hoping we eat more and get something more worthwhile for our troubles.
