I hear you. But I think that was long time ago. I just don't think it makes sense to assemble the best leafs team ever and then pair that with a goalie that is bottom 15 in the league. And I'd agree IF they add assets but the issue is I don't think guys like brown or just formenton is nearly enough to take on a guy with that much risk.
I don't think Murray has the health to backstop a team with playoff aspirations.
Pens won 2 Cups with Murray but that was a long time ago now and lots of injuries in-between.
Murray only played in 20 games last year the same as Mrazek and goalies that can't stay healthy are not reliable.
Jets aren't trading helly. Calgary is under no circumstances trading markstrom. Vegas isn't trading leaner. None of them are realisticI would do any of the following with a big splash
Hellyebuck
Markstrom
Lehner (ONLY if you bring Allen(or similar) to back him up since he's injury prone)

Blackwood is now able and allowed to play in all hockey arenas too.Murray/Blackwood would be a nice duo
Let’s hurry up with this!! Rip the bandaid off and let’s see what else we got with Murray.Friedman implies on the new 32 Thoughts podcast it's pretty much done barring the Leafs are satisfied with his medical reports
- Jets are potentially entering a rebuild.. rumours suggest a few of their top guys want out. Things could fall quickly.Jets aren't trading helly. Calgary is under no circumstances trading markstrom. Vegas isn't trading leaner. None of them are realistic
Can't disagree about the injuries. But maybe our top notch medical staff and training can help him get back to where he was.
With no one in net, we will outscore our problems until we can't.Everyone's so focused on the goalies, I wouldn't care if we went cheap on them, as long as it gets us this top 6:
Bunting Matthews Marner
Kane Tavares Nylander
It seems really insane that Murray isn't healthy enough to be bought out. That asset(s) back with Murray really need to be worth the risk of taking him on.
The big thing with Campbell was his inability to stay healthy (and consistency). Mrazek couldn't stay healthy. Murray being acquired is fine if the assets attached to him are good to great, but another goaltender that goes on the IR after a bump is really what put us back last season.
Dubas needs another goaltender to pair him with that can carry a load and stay healthy.
If Ottawa buys him out, they have him on the books for the next 4 years, with the last 2 both being at $2.5 million.I'm not sure how much more we can squeeze Ottawa for assets other than the 50% retention. Maybe some mid-round picks.

- Calgary could lose both Gaudreau and Tkachuck.. that would easily close their window
- Lehner does not want to be a knight, it's been pretty clear.
All of these could happen. Not likely but they are not unrealistic
A lack of other viable options.I agree. Feels like the other guy should be the solid starter choice and Murray kind of as the PTO home run option on a league minimum. Depending on what happens with Mystery Box, if we get Murray and he’s as up and down and injury prone as he has been, this could set up for an incredible come up story for Kallgren or Woll. Or a full on regime change. Why are the Leafs making such long bets like this?
interested to see what the return/retention is. Do u have a link to it?Friedman implies on the new 32 Thoughts podcast it's pretty much done barring the Leafs are satisfied with his medical reports

Trading with 50% retention still saves them $2.5 million dollars, and the Leafs know this. So the Leafs are bargaining hard on that $2.5 million to extract as much as possible. Otherwise they will just wait until Ottawa buys him out, then they get him for cheap.
Hmmm.....so they in essence are now negotiating against a possible $5 million savings because the Sens couldn't buy him out until next season? They can't even buy him out. They don't have any leverage at all. They either trade him or keep him.
