There are a number of current NHLers who played on that 2018 team. The eight guilty players deserve to be punished so that it never happens again, but hockey Canada chose to try to keep it hush hush and buy their way out of it.
Seems that they already tried that, then Westhead sank his teeth into and now it’s gone right to the Federal cabinet.
If TSN ever gets the NHL back the first line Gary will have in the contract is Fire Rick Westhead.

He could push the DeSmith extension. 2 x 1.8M. Probably between 1M and 1.5M though.
He could but even that is being generous to him, as DeSmith has played close to 100 games at a .915 level and has at least three seasons with 20+ games, including one year where he played 36. Only thing Comrie really has on him is age as he's 4 years younger.

Then again, looking at this in detail now DeSmith's agent should be fired. Dude is in his prime and has shown he's at least a capable 1B, he should've been making Husso money somewhere else. I guess it's the injuries maybe?

I expect the players were all told to say nothing but a couple at least, have broke ranks Victor Mete and at least one other unequivocally denied any involvement, casting more doubt on the silent guys.

Westhead has been bringing in some great news pieces exposing some of the hard topics that has been plaguing the sport.

I think Makar also came out and denied any involvement

I don't know if Nedjelkovic has so much positive value, that we can give up both Kerfoot and Holl. We also give up 4th rounder. Ottawa eats 25% and loses only Brown + gets two picks. Detroit basicly gets rid of Nedjelkovic and gets two good roster players for eating that cap.

Nedjelkovic wasn't that good they anticipated in Detroit and I see it Mrazek lite situation there. They also rebuilding so they might just keep him with Husso and tryout which one will be their long term solution. If one bombs out they just ride out the contract and move on. They have time and cap space.
That's good feedback, I realized I may have overpaid for Nedjelkovic and Detroit eating on Murray (in this three-way deal). If we wouldn't have to include both Kerfoot and Holl then that's great, we can move them in other deals. Detroit is eating $3M on Murray for two years here. This is what allows Ottawa to only eat $1.5M and why they would include Brown (possibly eat on him too?).

The real problem with all of this is that we are banking on one or both of Murray and Nedjelkovic bouncing back.

I don't know what he would sign for, but I'd make a run at Giroux.

I'm looking into this off season with Muzzin/Holl/Kerfoot/Sandin available for trade for picks/prospects or even make a run at Chychrun/Crouse.

I think the sweeteners with Murray, will help build out our 3rd line ala Brown/Formenton/Pinto (maybe?) Which would be a good start.

Bring back Engvall, sign Colin white.

Player from the Murray deal - Colin White
Engvall-Kampf

IMO, is a pretty solid start to the bottom 6.

Mete had an air tight alibi. He was out of the country.

I don't understand the satisfaction with the third line of this team, or specifically Kampf and Engvall. Compare them to what used to be our third line and there is no comparison. This team is NOT stronger now, it is weaker, and it is caused by adjusting for salary cap issues to make it work. There is a big drop-off between the second and third lines, and it WILL matter down the road. Third line centers are crucial links in the chain. Why do people think Kampf is sufficient?

Comrie is someone i'd take a look at when and if he is available unless a better option presents itself.
Id like Comrie but only if the other goalie is more proven then Murray.
He and Murray are both backup options so can’t go both. I would prefer Comrie to Murray myself.
There’s lots of backup options it’s the starter or 1A that are few and far between. Broissault from Vegas could be a cap casualty as well in a cheap back up role.
Reimer or Hill. Jones. The list goes on. It’s just two of these guys would be a disaster.

Building on an idea I put in this post on the Murray deal and a third team being involved. How about this?

TRADE ONE

TORONTO GETS:

Murray (@25%)
C. Brown (@50%)
Nedjelkovic

DETROIT GETS:
Holl
Kerfoot
(They eat 50% on Murray)

OTTAWA GETS
Toronto 5th
Detroit 4th
They eat 25% on Murray and 50% on C. Brown

TRADE TWO

TORONTO GETS

Severson (@50%)
M. Woods (RFA - signed at ~$3m)
M. McLeod

NJ GETS
Nylander

TRADE THREE

TORONTO GETS

LA 3rd '23
LA 3rd '223

LA GETS
Muzzin

TRADE FOUR

TORONTO GETS

L. Schenn

VANCOUVER GETS
LA 3rd '23
B Prospect (Holmberg)

FREE AGENTS
Blackwell 2 x $900K
Sandin 2 x $1.4M
D. Strome 2 x 1.5M
Lyubushkin 2 x $1.4M
Marchment 3 x $3M
E. Kane 4 x $6M (We have as much as $8M to spend on him, but not sure what the market is with his SJ situation unresolved, etc. We could also throw $8M at Kadri, rather than Kane)
E. Comrie 2 x $900K

I know we lose on the Nylander and Muzzin deals, but we have to look at the cap space we acquire and what we do with that space in judging the deals. We trade a quarter for two dimes and a nickel, which is usually not a good approach but this allows us to significantly change our mix and balance.

BUNTING | MATTHEWS | MARNER
TAVARES | STROME | KANE
ENGVALL | KAMPF | BROWN
MARCHMENT | MCLEOD | WOODS
BLACKWELL

RIELLY | SEVERSON
SANDIN | BRODIE
GIORDANO | LILJEGREN
SCHENN | LYUBUSHKIN

MURRAY
NEDJELKOVIC
COMRIE

Where am I overshooting? Which deals are too lopsided for us?

They started in the defensive zone and did very well. They are efficient. It's your prototypical shutdown forward line. Not sure what you're expecting from your 3rd line really.

The fourth line last year was the problematic line. Not enough physicality, not enough scoring, not enough defensive play. Just lackluster, especially towards the end of the year.

Listening to 32 thoughts
-Ottawa considered buying out Murray, he wasn't healthy enough at the time to be elligble
-Murray vetoed his trade to Buffalo. He desires toronto or edmonton
-In the cancelled trade with Buff - Ottawa would've retained 25%

Ya i think it was Foote and Mete released statements through their agents

I can’t see Edmonton wanting Murray.. Toronto has a lot of leverage imo

I don't know how all of this is going to play out.

What I do know is that Hockey Canada is under intense pressure here, and it might result in the players names being released. Again, I don't know, as both the Federal Government, and multiple sponsors want accountability from Hockey Canada on this.

Following Scotiabank's announcement on Tuesday that it was pausing its sponsorship of Hockey Canada in the wake of sexual assault allegations that came to light last month, several sponsors — including TELUS, Canadian Tire, Imperial Oil and Tim Hortons — have withdrawn their support for the upcoming men's world junior tournament amid demands for systemic change.

In the open letter to Hockey Canada and all hockey fans and players across the country that sparked the corporate response, Scotiabank president and CEO Brian J. Porter wrote that he is "appalled by the recent reports" and believes Hockey Canada must be held accountable.

"Today, we have made the decision to pause our sponsorship of Hockey Canada until we are confident the right steps are being taken to improve the culture within the sport — both on and off the ice," Porter wrote, also stating that he expects Hockey Canada "to fully cooperate with the Federal Government’s audit" and ensure Scotiabank’s sponsorship funds were "used as intended."
