It's a mix of collision/the leagues conservative culture as to why we don't see many offersheets. There SHOULD be a lot of them offered each offseason - but they never come.

Ideally as a new generation of GMs enter the league weay eventually start to see them happen more often.
Offersheets really just drive up the cost of business for everyone by way of new comparables for future contracts. The Aho offersheet didn't do much for Montreal since they didn't end up with the player. While the Kotkaniemi offersheet was ultimately successful, Carolina had to go to a high AAV and 1st round (+) level of compensation in order for that to work out.

Have they not won 11 series in a row on the backs of their stars?
Yes they have, but only after their GM balanced their team out. You're getting rid of the part of the team that is the hardest part to assemble instead of just fixing the areas any competent GM should be able to complete

There's a handful of guys who have QOs that might be a bit high for their teams:
Ethan Bear - 2,400,000
Haydn Fleury - 1,550,000
Alexander Gorgiev - 2,650,000
Luke Kunin - 2,300,000
Brendan Lemieux - 2,300,000
Miles Wood - 3,500,000
Pavel Zacha - 3,000,000

Nobody else has a QO that can't be buried, so I'm not sure there will be many others worth even looking at.

There may also be a few guys with low QOs but who are arbitration eligible that may end up as free agents (not sure about specific guys though)

If that list Gorgiev and Kunin would be intriguing.

Would be a good addition to the bottom six that’s for sure.
Good well-rounded player. He'd be in my tier-2 group of bottom-6 targets.
Luke Kunin should be a target

Quote taken from a Preds fan on the main board:
If you all are thinking Kunin is a C... I mean, that would defy anything we've seen from him in Nashville. Purely a banging winger. No notable hockey sense, vision, IQ, passing ability, defensive acumen.... could not possibly play center in the NHL from what we've seen. Or maybe you mean something else? :dunno:

Quote taken from a Preds fan on the main board:

He'd be fine for the right price. He may even work on the 2nd line.

But he is not as good as he was hyped. He is pretty much just a hard-working guy who can provide a bit of depth offense.

For me this is the sole reason you look at trading one of the top 4 forwards. Saying they can't get anything going therefore we shouldn't replace them seems like a contradiction. Re-invest that cap into players who can get to the dirty areas.

Seems like we're finding middle ground. My whole premise of a Nylander trade is to find 3 middle class players who can contribute in the playoffs to replace Nylander/Spezza/Blackwell at 9M. My last proposal was using the extra cap space on Marchment/Husso in FA and also receiving Tomasino/17th OA for Nylander. In total you're looking at Marchment/Husso/Tomasino/17 OA for Nylander.

Sure. But how many of them “won” the series.

This years game 7 hero was Nic paul
Last year was gourde.
Ross Colton scored the cup winner.

Most “wins” by Tampa have been 1-0 series clinchers with an unlikely hero

That's completely fair. I'm an advocate for the Leafs to shed salary at the top to fill out the bottom.

Not really? Who are the “stars”. Vasy? Sure.

But Colton. Gourde. Paul. Etc have won them many series. Stamkos has been known as a playoff choker even though he got the 2 in NYR

What? Not really?

Have you already forgotten that Hedman won the Conn Smythe in 2020? Brayden Point leading their team in goals? Kucherov's insane playoff numbers?

And yes Vasy is a star. Glad you figured that out.

That's pretty insane by Kucherov. I think he gets some cheap shots in and gets away with too much shit though... but again pretty crazy.

Look at tampa
With the refs on their side they won two cups

This year the refs are favouring colorado

I hooe pretty soon we have to kiss some ass and get them on our side

Leafs don't need many changes.

They just need the young defense to continue to improve and knock a player or two down a notch.

They need the double digits to earn their paychecks.

Need one prospect capable of skating with Nylander. Tavares can handle the pivot position on that line

They need 4 players to play with Kampf and Engvall. One might be 51 point Kerfoot.

Bunting-Matthew-marner
?-Tavares-Nylander
?Kerfoot-?
Engvall-Kampf-?

Prospects: McMann, Holmberg, Abruzzesse, Anderson, Robertson, Steeves

Leafs don't need a top 6 player, which makes it easier.

I just realized the leafs are probably not comfortable going all in and making big risky trades until the futures of Matthews and Marner are settled.

You guys wanting big moves need to be patient for about 2-3 years. Either they blow it up or makes their big McDonagh type moves.

See i agree but it's gotta make sense right. I'm fine trading them for a core piece. Not bits and pieces. That just doesn't work. Imo anyway.
