Or Vegas can match the offer sheet and trade him for a lot more than a 3rd round pick.
If you match the offer sheet, I don't believe you can trade him for a calendar year.

I remember this being discussed when Dreger tried to convince everyone that an offer sheet was coming for Nylander (and then again for Matthews, and then again for Marner, and now for Liljegren and Sandin) because Dreger is a f***ing idiot.

So true.

Only Leaf players are ripe for Offer Sheets, which is ironic since all our players are usually garbage if you believe the main boards... Reason #43756 why I don't bother even going to the main boards anymore.

Lost all respect for Dreger with his Marner BS. Can't even look at him anymore, let alone listen to any of his crap.

The only good thimg that came out of that Marner saga was Elliotte getting the numbers of the contract before Dreger:laugh:

They just do it to get attention. Biggest market in the league draws the most attention.

I don't know why anyone listens to the media either tv or radio. All we ever see is people complaining about how awful it is (not directed at you, in general).
Seems kind of odd to listen to something you don't like and then whine about it.

Vatrano’s name has been mentioned a few times already, would he really be an upgrade on Kerfoot for the Tavares-Nylander line?

I think he’d be an upgrade in the physicality area. Might be a drop in skill but he’s competent offensively to not be a big liability.

Kinda like a Bunting for that Tavares line. Or he can help form a great checking third line.

Although I don't completely disagree with this statement the Leafs did score more goals against Tampa in the playoffs than any other team has the last 3 years. Colorado may pass them though. The Leafs also scored the most goals against MTL last year although Tampa had a higher goals/game.
All I'm saying is, we can't score goals in the business end of a series. We haven't lost those games like 7-5 etc. Opposing teams trap andnclog the NZ and all of a sudden our stars can't get anything going. I'd like to add to our offensive threats instead of taking from it. But i understand your point.

For me this is the sole reason you look at trading one of the top 4 forwards. Saying they can't get anything going therefore we shouldn't replace them seems like a contradiction. Re-invest that cap into players who can get to the dirty areas.

I don't know why so many GM's think like this. The Leafs have had 6 or 7 goalies in the last 3 years claimed off waivers. That's more than triple other teams in the league. Sateri, McElhinney, Pickard, Dell are among the ones I can think of.

I would definitely handcuff as many GM's as possible and not care about the ramifications. So you lose 1 trading partner for a bit. Which would you rather have, a good 3rd line centre for x years or 1 trading partner that might be upset you did that.

It's a mix of collision/the leagues conservative culture as to why we don't see many offersheets. There SHOULD be a lot of them offered each offseason - but they never come.

Ideally as a new generation of GMs enter the league weay eventually start to see them happen more often.

We don't hear about what's been offered only what's been signed.

The fact that so few have been signed in the cap era is imo fairly indicative that they aren't being offered.

Guys have no problem leaving their drafted teams via UFA. So I'm not sure why so many would be hesitant to sign an offer sheet

Mirtle has said teams are expecting a number of RFAS to not be qualified (similar to last offseason when the Leafs pounced on guys like Kampf/Kase/Ritchie).

Wonder who will fall through the cracks to the Leafs this time around
When is the deadline to qualify RFA's?

Personally, I would rather just try Anderson on his off side if Vatrano wants big money.

There's a handful of guys who have QOs that might be a bit high for their teams:
Ethan Bear - 2,400,000
Haydn Fleury - 1,550,000
Alexander Gorgiev - 2,650,000
Luke Kunin - 2,300,000
Brendan Lemieux - 2,300,000
Miles Wood - 3,500,000
Pavel Zacha - 3,000,000

Nobody else has a QO that can't be buried, so I'm not sure there will be many others worth even looking at.

Tampa should trade their core too then because they didn't get to any dirty areas in game 7 either. Nick Paul cleaned up for them.

Making a specific point. I'm aware of their cups
