CJ again says there is nothing on Campbell and he thinks they Go for cheap under the radar guys. But no idea who that would be.

For my money, the Leafs will target 1 UFA and 1 trade target. It depends who makes it to UFA though.

If Georgiev makes it to UFA (not qualified), I suspect the Leafs to be the top team interested.

I almost am expecting a fleury/Murray tandem if Murray is bought out.

They get along. Have worked well and wouldn’t block petro and McKay

Murray is definitely up there if bought out. Fleury should be a target as well, just dont' see him signing with the Leafs, just a gut feeling.

There are a lot of names, not many great names.

Here’s my attempt at making a better playoff team.

Coyotes get-
Nylander
Sandin
Mrazek
1rst? Idk if we’d need to add this sending them lots of salary

Leafs get-
Chychrun
Crouse
Hayton

Detroit gets-
Kerfoot
Holl
Robertson

Leafs get-
Bertuzzi 20% retained
3nd

Devils get-
Engvall

Leafs get-
Blackwell

Kings get-
Muzzin

Leafs get-
picks

Signing
Paul
Blackwood
Kane
Lyubushkin

Bunting/Matthews/ Marner
Bertuzzi/JT/ Kane
Crouse/ Paul/ Kase
Blackwood/ kampf/ Anderson

Reilly/Brodie
Chychrun/ lily
Giordano/ Lybushkin

I didn’t look at the salary structure but it would be close probably

Mirtle just reported that multiple sources indicated that he would be willing to sign here.

My bet is Pitt. But of the playoff teams that need goalies that aren’t Pitt. Toronto seems to be his best bet.

Bertuzzi is a non factor for this team, I’m not interested in opening that debate up and we all know why.
Until both countries ease travel restrictions for those who exercised their right to not get vaccinated he’s a no fly zone for all Canadian teams and id guess any team who would potentially play a Canadian team in the playoffs.
Side note: I’d have serious questions about the guys character considering that hes the only guy in the league who refused to be a team player WRT getting a damn flu shot, but that’s just me and my “liberal” mind set or so I’ve been told.

Wedgewood seems like a slam dunk 1B. He played 37 games this year and put up a .910 SV% including a .911 SV% in 26 games with Arizona. He's also a local kid (he'll be 30 next season) which may give the Leafs a leg up on getting him signed.

Cheaper UFAs would be DeSmith, Comrie, Hill, Holtby, Jones, Wedgewood, etc.

They may also mean cheaper caphits, but acquired via trade for a potentially highish price, which could include Blackwood, Georgiev, Stolarz (if they commit to going with Gibson), etc.

I think we could see them acquire one of each. A younger gamble via trade, and then an older more stable option through free agency.

I know you say it's a moot point but it's worth hashing out. It sounds like the Leafs barked up that tree during the 2020-2021 season and have since scratched him off their list. Bertuzzi gets a reputation as a gritty played but he really isn't. He barely hits (3.36 hits/60 at ES - less than Marner/Kerfoot/Engvall). He only had 1 fighting major in the last 3 seasons. He also only has 1 year of elite production which comes in a season where top line players are putting up higher point totals across the league. I'm not saying he won't replicate that production, what I'm saying is he isn't the player that his name and missing tooth leads people to believe. With 1 year left on his good contract the Leafs should stay away.

Lebrun on IT mentions teams calling Carolina on Necas, and perhaps would move him if they get a young d back.

If the Leafs are keeping Muzzin (based on mirtle's intel on the latest Leaf Report) the left side D is crowded - perhaps a deal surrounding Sandin and Necas?

So he can do what exactly? We need Sandin more than we need Necas long term, unless we are trading Nylander.

I wouldn’t mind that.
Dach could also work.

Guess you missed the travel restrictions that were lifted yesterday. You know longer need to be vaccinated to enter or leave Canada

Keeping Muzzin feels like an attempt to really go for it in the next two years while AM and WN are under contract.

I think I would move Muzzin and use that $ to add depth up front if it was me, but I see the argument both says. If they are keeping JM, and don't intend to move Sandin to the right, it's two years before hes a top four D at minimum - whereas Necas gives them a top nine C option with room to grow.

I'm high on Sandin, but his road to being an impact contributor is in tough on the left side is all.

We're not exactly flush with top 6 forwards, especially guys that can play centre

I like our chances of either developing another young Dman or finding some cheap older guys than doing that with a young centre who can 2C behind Matthews for the forseeable future

CJ said today no offers have been made to Mikheyev and Campbell. Mikhayev is looking for something in the 4 million range.

Honestly with the way this is going way, it seems Leafs will look to reshape the entire bottom 6 except for Kampf and maybe Kase.

I would have absolutely no problem in trading Sandin for Necas but I highly doubt Carolina would even accept that

CJ. Kypreos and pretty much everyone is crap at Leafs info.

If Friedman or Big Mack says it, I believe it, otherwise, no insider that plugged in on Toronto. Even Lebrun lately is all about the bleu, blan et rouge, not great with Toronto stuff.

Necas has mostly been a RW, which is why I said it doesn't make sense unless we move Nylander.

We are flush with good winger prospects; both LW and RW.

They might. He’d slot behind Slavin and Skjei on their third pairing nicely.

On Carolina though he’d probably become a stud defender in the long run.

A swap with Necas could be interesting since he could provide the org with a young centre option long term and make moving Nylander a bit more digestible.

I might be misremembering but I could have sworn I read that Necas wanted a chance to go back to the middle.

Two low key quality additions that Colorado has been working with are Burakovsky and Nichushkin… big bodied power forward types that still needed some development.

An example that the Leafs missed out on is Buchnevich .. they need to find these types of players imo

Maybe keeping Mikheyev is the right call?
