The way I see it, Mrazek + pick/prospect gets you out from under the remaining two years of Mrazek. Then add the cost for Blackwood.

That comes down to the difference between Blackwood and Mrazek. We can take their "Carter Hutton" to reduce the money owed Mrazek.

I’m wondering if Sandin is going to be used as a trade chip this off-season. Keefe seems really high on Giordano and Boosh, plus Liljegren is playing himself into untouchable territory on the RHD side.

He’s too good to be a 7-8, but we had Dermott down there for a while too so we’ll see.

If we can trade Sandin for a young C who can 3C then take over 2C once Tavares is done would be something to look into, Aatu Raty would be nice

Or maybe trade the 30+ guy owed a lot of money with chronic injury and concussion issues.

Muzzin also has a shockingly not terrible buyout situation...

Mrazek's buyout would cost us 1.4m on the cap for 4 years. Guessing Muzzin's would be worse so unless you can move that dead cap space, doubt the Leafs would be interested in carrying it for 4 years.

I think Sandin is probably viewed as untouchable from the front office Mirtle said Leafs refused to include him in any trade negotiations this past tdl.

We save $1.3M for the next two, add $666K for two more.

Why in the world would to have to buy out muzzin?

He is making 6 million over the next 2 years.

Makes no sense.

How many players have we had to buy out?

There's no need for a Muzzin buyout. Ideally they will want him to return to form for the team. But there's always a GM interested in a guy like him when it comes to a trade. Even if the Leafs would have to give him away.

Only reason is to save on some of his 5.6m cap hit if he regresses further and refuses to waive his NTC which I doubt we get to. The last thing we want is to pay a #3 LD 5.6m and have him block Sandin if we were to resign Gio. Should be an interesting summer.

If he refuses then you waive him.

Hometown guy with full NTC until July 2023. This isn't a video game, Muzzin waives NTC why?

Because if not you waive him?

It’s a business. Ritchie is a hometown guy. He got waived.

Mrazek signed. He got waived.

This is 2 years. In the event he isn’t making his money and refuses to be traded he gets waived. It’s simple.

The leafs lead the league in waivers. It’s not new

Because he's probably done and will end up an LTITetirement soon anyway. The guy can't stitch together 40 healthy games in a row, I respect what he did here but it's clearly not working for either party at this point.

At least if he was just bad but healthy it would be one thing, but constantly missing 10-20 games every other month forces us to call up guys like Dahlstrom since we can't fully use Muzzin's caphit on a long-term replacement in the event he comes back for another 5 games before something goes wrong again.

College UFA crowd thinning out. Holding out slight hopes Meyers, but one report had two non/leaf teams in the lead.

I personally see very little chance that Muzz gets moved; not this FO’s MO. I’d be perfectly happy to bring back Lyub and Gio, and run the same 8 D. I’d be happy to bet a dollar that Lyub gets a 3-year offer like the Holl one, and the one offered to Hakanpaa.
Which two of the 8D we have would sit on a game to game basis? Lilly and Sandin need
more opportunities not more insulation. If you bring back lyub & Gio I think you have to look at holl & muzz being shopped.
Unless you think one of Sandin or liljegren are traded

Because with his ntc he controls where he goes. Say somewhere like back to LA or Anaheim both up and coming teams with short term cap room and not a lot of LD quality.
If he raises a stink he simply goes on waivers where he wouldn’t clear and would end up somewhere like AZ Montreal or Buffalo.
He was a good soldier for us and provided great value for his role, but things have changed quickly with him being injured and unreliable and with his presumed replacement (Gio) sounding like he can fill the role at a fraction of the cap hit.
Leafs need every cap dollar they can free up, having Gio for 1m saves the team $4.625. That’s a whole ass starting goalie or top 6W.

Muzzin is still a good player. A rough patch and injuries made it a tough year but we're far away from a situation to need to buy him out... not even close to that. There will be a team with interest in a veteran like that anyway if there was a trade route option. I think the Leafs want to keep him though... and they should.

I mean if Gio wants to re-sign for a good price and you can re-up Lyub or a physical stay at home d for cheap, moving Muzzin would be a good way to free up some cap.

Muzzin holds enough name value that the Leafs could get something out of a trade too.
