It wouldn't shock me to see Mrazek sent to Robidas Island permanently, where his Cap hit will become irrelevant. His groin issues have just become too much for him, to ever become a useful NHL goalie again. Surely he'd agree to that, over a buyout..

Lou would be ruthless enough to do it. Not sure Dubas would be. Add that he is the one responsible for the signing.

Better win a round cause if he keeps his job, he'll be hearing it from the fans.

If we're gonna move muzzin I think LA is the best bet to take him. They need a solid LD, they know muzz very well and Muzz and his family love LA. I think the kings will take him in a soft deal and muzz would waive for LA.

I'd be anti-buyout as well. That penalty is not bad but still crushing in our circumstances. Petr had the worst season of his career and I'd sooner keep him

Don't think Dubas is as cutthroat as Lou to send a player who was not wanting to go to Robbidas island (see Lupul).
He's cut bait quickly with signings that don't work out like Ritchie.

I'm pretty sure he has it in him. But he's also not going to proactively and preemptively ruin a guys career and livelihood either.

And that we should be thankful for because as we can see with many years of history....UFA's avoid signing with Lou's teams like the plague without vast overpays. How is being cutthroat to your own team's future chances to ever obtain players in any way intelligent?

Everyone talking about the off-season, I'm still excited to see how this season ends. (Even though Dubas should've 100% traded for a goalie)

Maybe. But we don’t know who was available at at what prices, so that’s really hard to judge

I'm sure they could've gotten a guy with at last some NHL experience for a 3rd/4th. I think goaltending depth for the run is worth that, given how injury prone all of our goalies are, from the NHL on down.

I don’t think that moves the needle enough to bother personally

The Leafs have played well the last few games so they an't post in the PGT. Have to find something to put a negative spin on until the Leafs lose next.

It really feels like this oversight is going to be the teams downfall this year.

If Campbell can get back to form, I am confident in Kallgren.

He is so composed and controlled in net. He doesn’t play or act like a rookie.

To be honest, I am more confident in Kallgren than I am in anything Mrazek has done thus far this season.

Sucks that Mrazek got hurt again, just as he started to show better, but my biggest concern is what Campbell will look like coming back.

Kallgren has showed me more than Mrazek or Hutchinson, and I feel confident with him.

This might be the way out, either LA or maybe Anaheim looking for a stable vet. LA looks good going forward but not a lot at LD. Some kid of soft deal there with a cheap Gio extension frees up 4-4.9m
Still don’t think mrazek will cost massive assets like some doomsayers here want to suggest. He’s definitely not going to have a bidding war, but that contract wasn’t given in a vacuum and maybe with a modest add like a 3rd or something else they might get a small piece back like in the Ritchie-Boosh deal.

How long did it take him to send Ritchie to the moon? Dubas is pretty cutthroat too, but he has a nice guy demeanour... He'll work with players, but a broken guy like Mrazek... It's a pretty easy conversation.

Mrazek was a huge disappointment, but I don't think that contract will be overly painful to move. Might cost a 3rd, or a 2nd in the worst case. He just had the worst year of his career, but he's been a veteran goalie in the league for close to 10 years. The contract is too rich for us, but it's not particularly out of line for what he's been his entire career. There are several teams who will be sniffing around and seeing what's up for grabs.

No idea what our goaltending situation is going to look like next year. Campbell's play down the stretch and in the playoffs will dictate a lot. If he falters, I imagine we'd go after Gibson or try and get a legit 1A. I believe in Campbell and hope he does well, but I really am sick of faffing about with goalies. I miss the days of steady Freddy, and Jack's Vezina November was awesome. Shaky goaltending is a big Achilles heel.

Dubas waived Mrazek, how is this even a discussion?

Sending Ritchie to Zona and Mrazek to Ribbidas island are two different things. Nothing cut throat about moving a lazy Ritchie to Zona. Dubas would gladly move Mrazek if he could but would he move him to Robbidas island if he could not ?? I don't think so. Lou ?? Definitely just ask Lupul.

I think my definition of cut throat is more severe than others. I do not consider any "hockey" move cut throat. Sending an unwilling player to Robbidas island is cut throat IMO.
Sending a healthy player to Robidas Island is pure fantasy, so I don't think your definition really matters. It might be your idea of "cut throat", but the NHL has very specific rules in place to prevent exactly what you're hoping for. Robidas Island is a fantastic meme and has been a useful tool for old/injured players in the past. Petr Mrazek is 30 years old and has been a functional goalie in the NHL for every year of his career but this one.

Unwilling players do not go to Robidas Island because the PA would never stand for it in a million years, it's pretty much the definition of cap circumvention and would result in significant penalties against the Leafs.
