His individual numbers are virtually identical every year he's played in the NHL. People are just realizing that what he's always brought is amazing for a 3rd line player, and is a key cog in a ridiculously good 3rd line. Doesn't need to be physical to be amazing defensively, while driving offense.

He’s playing a lot less soft. That’s the difference.

If Engvall had any sort of a mean streak...that man would be an elite bottom 6 forward
Already is

Count me as firmly on the Engvall bandwagon. Yes we salivate over the size and wish he was more power forward. But he needs to be appreciated for what he is... as said above great at getting and keeping the puck. That speed that can burn the other team up. And those breakouts... I know Keefe has mentioned those too. He is just so calm with the puck in tight in his own zone. If they are in any kind of trouble and he gets the puck it tends to calm everything down, and he almost always makes the right play. There has been a few times I've been yelling at the tv "what are you doing skating BACK into our end!??" Then he calmly turns and burns and usually makes a competent play to get the puck in deep.

Just a very solid player.

That is one of the kinds of battles that he has stopped being terrible at, yes.
He's gotten a lot better, I think next season we finally see him in his prime and what he will be.

Seems like there's been players improving in their mid-twenties now alot more often, or maybe thats just me.

He is phenomenal at winning and keeping the puck.

Elite.
I don't want to mess up that stupidly good 3rd line right now, but Engvall is a guy I'm surprised hasn't gotten an extended look beside Tavares/Nylander. He's been great the last 40 games and his speed/shot would play well with those two.

It's hilarious seeing people pretend that Engvall's gone through some big transformation, to try and justify their previous inaccurate and biased positions on him.
Only one year removed from Keefe benching him for similar complaint, plus a soft showing in the playoffs terms of winning battles against other teams bottom 6. Not sure what is hilarious there.

It very fair that Engvall had to show he's permanent fixture moving forward. His own fault people come into season critical, but he pass regular season test 10/10. Still waiting to see if playoff will be different now. If yes, then Engvall earn everyone respect as career Leaf moving forward. If another playoff where he plays soft then that's strike 3.

Kampf is a perfect example of the type of defense first player you want on your team IMO. He's not entirely a back hole offensively in that he's able to be strong/gritty on the forecheck and cycle the puck well in the offensive zone. And he doesn't hold back his linemates from making plays.

Great pickup.

It's not Engvall's fault that some people struggled to recognize or understand the value he brought prior to this season, just because they were so consumed by the whole "if tall man not do bone-crushing hitz every time, tall man soft and bad" narrative. Nothing significant has changed about his game.

I honestly think I'd trust Ben Meyers to centre the 4th line right now.

I really hope we're in on him.
Would definitely take the sting away from missing out on McBain.

For a team with 11 1/2 fans, I'm quickly developing a health dislike for the Coyotes.

....... and then I remember that they gave us Boosh for Ritchie, and we already have a soft deal in place for the summer for Chych and it all feels better...... :)

I half agree with you Bert. he does look like a great pickup. But he is 313th in pp60 for forwards with 30 or more games so he is a black hole too.. The fact Kampf is a plus player who gets mostly D zone starts and tough matches is quite impressive. He has made a believer out of me for this year at least. I think this line's game will translate well in the playoffs.

Ducks are rebuilding and Nylander only has two years left on his deal. Dont see them trading a 1st and Lunderstrom + comtois for two years.
