Yet there are a few around here that claim hits are uselessJosh Manson had 10 hits last night. Holy moly.
Colorado coach said after that game that it's exactly what he wanted on his back end because the playoffs are a blood bath and they were missing previous year. They're D-Core now has both Manson and McDermid.
Yeah get us Middleton Dubas.
Ridiculous claim.Yet there are a few around here that claim hits are useless

I don't see much happening here
Not sure who we're getting if we're trading Lily, cause I doubt Miller is happening. Seems like a no go to me as well.Apparently we liked Motte. Nothing much happens at either end of the ice with him on. He gets hemmed in a lot, but it is not like he gives up a ton of high-end chances either. And he likes running around hitting people even though he is small. Somewhat similar to Dzingel/Moore with less NHL offensive upside and a lot more hitting.
I don't really see the fit but I guess if he comes at the right pirce, he can be a decent depth option. Maybe could be a guy who could rotate in on our 4th line if we want it to chew up more minutes and be more defensive; or maybe playing with Spezza/Kerfoot may get more out of him offensively (he has produced at lower levels). He may be able to fill in on our shutdown line if we absolutely need him to, but we have other guys who can do that already. He has sucked on the PK this year but has been better in the past.
I wouldn't give them more than a mid-tier prospect or a contract dump + mid-round pick though. We can afford to move a prospect in the mid-late teens from our pool for a guy like him, and that is before we can maybe add a McBain or a Meyers.
Step back despite him getting close? This looks more and more like an LTIR play in disguise. Something to keep an eye on for trades.

Lyubushkin isn't a "puck moving D", and we seem to get it out of our own end easier when he's on the ice. Rielly can move the puck. Brodie can move the puck. Holl can move the puck. Muzzin makes a good first pass a lot of the time. Moving the puck doesn't mean you have to skate it out of your own end. I think we get too wrapped up in these guys that dazzle us at times with their offensive upside in transporting the puck or making a fancy play. If the playoffs started tomorrow, id rather have 6 Lyubushkin's than 6 Sandin's. That doesn't mean he's the better talent. A mix is ideal. But one extreme or the other? I'll take the stay at home physical D x6 over Offensive D x6 every timeAlso one which would have real troubles moving the puck and will likely get hemmed in a lot more than we were in the past. Probably not a good thing when we have struggled to get basic saves not just now, but in previous playoffs too.
Our inability to learn from first round exits is exhausting. Nail on the head. This notion that adding Middleton "would crown up our bottom half"....is complete BS. Its like people refuse to learn to constant 1st rd exits.
Its called having depth. We have to be ready to play any type of game. Tampa Bay had Bogosian/Luke Schenn in their cup run last year. Good players will end up sitting out and being healthy scratched. Thats what a Good Stanley Cup team looks like.
Adding Middleton would give us the ability to play any kind of game we want to play based off our opponent. Having those options is what makes a good team.
A bruinsing defense goes a long way in the playoffs. Just look at what Montreal's defense was able to do to our highly powered offense last year.

People just completely ignore stylistic fit and only consider additions that constitute an analytical upgrade of some kind. This notion that adding Middleton "would crown up our bottom half"....is complete BS. Its like people refuse to learn to constant 1st rd exits.

It could be just the timing seems odd.I'd guess he's still at least a few weeks away. That isn't imminent to me.
But maybe it is LTIR shenanigans.
This is why Bruins have emerged as a very scary threat. High possession high xGF team and wear you down with hits on top of that.Hits being high when all you're doing is chasing the game and getting caved in are useless.
Hits while keeping up high possession numbers, that's a different story.
